In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hurricane Harvey

Just woke up to pounding rain, non stop lightning. Harvey was just late getting here but he has arrived.

Hopefully no tornadoes. They are the highly dangerous and unpredictable component of land falling hurricanes. Yeah, on top of everything else, of course....

Hope you don't have any damages...

Unfortunately things look bad. The street in front of and beside me is flooded (and I continue to see motorists drive through the deep waters), the water is over the sidewalk and up onto my lawn at times and recedes somewhat during lulls in the rain. Earlier I saw someone's mailbox float by.

I mentioned that I was fixing to move in a few weeks so most of what I own is in boxes in the garage which will flood first, but things are stacked up in there and the walkway between kitchen and garage is barely passable because I stacked the patio set and garden stuff there so they would be thrown about in the wind and possibly hurt someone.

On the other hand, the boxes are double stacked, it may be that the top layer of boxes will escape any water.
I was able to find the box with the albums of baby pictures so those are safe in the house with me.

I'm hoping and praying that the house will not flood but with days of rain in front of me, I don't know what will happen.
What's important is not the stuff though, I am fine, my sons, daughter in law and grand baby in Houston are fine but flooded into their area too just like I am. But people are what are important and we are all OK, thank you for asking.

Yeah, hope things will be OK for you. Are their any dams upstream from your area that are in danger of breaking open? This storm seems like it is highly unusual for the amount of rain it will produce in that area, so any dams made were probably not designed with this much water pressure in mind. So you might want to check that out if you haven't already. If there is any danger of that, you might want to bail out to higher and safer ground.

That is a LOT of water...

I hope everyone is doing well. Stay dry as best you can and anyone in the rockport area in need of supplies pm me. I will be going down this weekend most likely to see what's left of our family house.

I hope your house was spared any damage. Cross your fingers.

Ryan I'm hoping for the best for your family home, and if there is damage that it can be repaired.

Thank you very much and luckily we are good on everything. The house is used more as a vacation home which we boarded up and left unoccupied.

Thank you so much for asking. I have plenty of canned food and still have electricity so the freezer still has food, so I am fine with food and supplies; but it is supposed to rain heavily for the next few days and it is very stressful to think that I might lose everything.
But as long as my family and myself (and the critters) get out of this hurricane alive, that is what is important.
I'll be glad when it is all over.

It is encouraging that the water in the street drained during the night and despite heavy rain so far the street is not flooding, that may mean that yesterday's flood water was the result of a blocked drain that the city took care of.

My disaster rations include warm brown sugar oatmeal nut chocolate chip brownies that just came out of the oven :D

Garage and walkway have flooded, front yard is a lake. I've probably lost most of my stuff which was boxed up in the garage waiting for the move. Another few weeks and I would have been well away from the coast.
