In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

This is my first post here and I'm no whiner. I'm posting this for a young man who sent me what he was sold as a hypo by Dan Raynes from Portland, Oragon for a trade. As soon as I saw it I knew it wasn't a hypo. It was a very clean looking animal and very pretty but a common columbian boa. Dan sold it to him for 350.00 and said it's father was a hypo. I have no dought about that. I sent pics to a number of other breeders to get their opinion also. We are all in agreement. When Kenny Bowman told Dan this his statement to Kenny was "ok if its not a hypo it's het for hypo so it's still worth 350.00". I'm really pissed about a man who calls himself a breeder and would take advantage of a kid who doesn't know what he's getting and when called on it he comes up with a BS story he knows the kid doesn't know one way or the other just to keep his money. I've told this Dan to email me to sling that s__t  my way and he won't respond. I told him I was going to tell the herp community about this situation and still he didn't respond. This is just to get his name out there so he doesn't do it to any other unsuspecting young people who are trying to get into our hobby. It's guys like this that give us all a bad name.

I bought what was supposed to be a pair of rattlesnakes from Dan Raines a couple years ago. They were both females. I asked Dan if he was legally shipping them. They came by Northwest airlines with nothing about venomous marked anywhere on the box or airbill. Stay away from this guy!

People just don't understand. If it does not get labeled "Venomous" and an employee of the carrier were to inspect it and get injured or die, the shipper is now guilty of negligent homicide as well as violating federal laws redarging hazardous cargo. Big mistake. Evan Stahl

i was the one who got this snake for a friend. my friend told me that he got it from dan.  i havent talked to dan in over a month and my friend jon (the one that own the "hypo") said he got it from him. after all this s__t happened i talked to jon to see what the truth is because i have been talking to steve ori about it all along. after steve told me that it wasnt a hypo i told jon to tell me the truth....... he told me he got it from a local pet store called petco in portland oregon. by this site going up it puts dans name in the dirt which it shouldn't be because he had nothing to do with it! i go to dan about all my snakes and he hasnt failed me yet, and i dont think he will. he is a good friend of mine and he is very trustworthy, or at least to me.

to the guy with the rattlesnakes: i can see why you are pissed but it is a common mistake and things go wrong from time to time. he has very good business around here because he can pretty much pinpoint almost any snake that comes into the store. he specializes in exotic reptiles.  dan said that it looked like a hypo but wasnt sure what it was or not a hypo.

dont take dan for a fool because he didnt do anything and if you want to talk to me personally, e-mail me at    [email protected]

A common mistake that he didn't get the 1.1 pair or a common mistake that the boxes weren't labeled?  <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

What is going on lately. Are there more rip-off artists or just better info regarding them?

Petco? Crappy BCI if it came from them. BTW, I have NEVER seen a boa for sale in a Petco. Corns and BP's. That's it.

i know for a fact that there is boas at petco. you should get some glasses.  i personally bought one there about 3-4 years ago as a first snake.

I see fine.
I have never, however, seen a boa in a Petco. Petland Discounts yes, Petco no.
I did see a blood python once in a Petco a few years ago but that's it besides corns, BP's, and oh yeah, recently they have had garter snakes too.

well im positive that there are boas there at somepoint because i have gotten one there before so dont give me some bs story about how you know everything about that stuff. and you're an idiot but thats just me.

Belligerent much?  And what's just you, the idiot part, or the bs part?  You need to leave your full name or your posts will be deleted and everyone will read this and wonder who the doofus was that didn't get it even after being told.

i think this whole this needs to be deleted because dan had nothing to do with it!

for people that just skim through this stuff:

DAN HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT! IT WAS MY FRIEND JON THAT MADE THIS MISTAKE! THIS WHOLE THING NEEDS TO GO AWAY!

i dont understand why you guys cant drop this because its doing nothing. dan had nothing to do with it. therefore- problem solved! PERIOD

I never said I knew everything.

I just said I have never seen a boa at Petco.

I did say that if it came from Petco, there is no way it would be a hypo though.

Relax a little.

ok sorry for freaking out. some pet shops (dont know about this one) do imports but as i said not sure about petco. i got ahold of petco and i showed them the recipt for the boa and they said that there is a local breeder that sells them to them and he got it updated that the breeder has a male hypo and it very well could have some hypo in it. but im not sure though. i know that there is black pigment on him but it doesnt look like a regular columbian red tail. but thats just me. i would really like this whole thing to be off the net because what we are fighting about has nothing to do with dan. (that is what we are fighting about)

kenny bowman

if Petco is buying boas from private breeders, then things sure have changed since I worked for that damned company. They do get boas in as well as anything else that Cal Zoo might happen to have to send to them...but as far as I know they go through wholesalers like Cal Zoo, not private breeders. No breeder who cared about their animals would sell to Petco...it's writing them off to sure death.

Bill Brandt, The Gourmet Rodent, supplies most of them with corns, balls, leopard geckos and a few other mass produced, common critters. He is one of the largest sheer volume producers out there. Evan Stahl

The Petland near me (Columbus, Ohio) actually has a pretty decent selection for a chain store.  Amazon Tree Boas, Green Anacondas, Albino Burms, Milk Snakes, BCI and the normal petstore trade.  Very surprising actually

Scott Axel

Same with the Petland by me in Southbury CT. They actually have people working there that know something and get some pretty decent animals in. I was tempted to buy a BP there once. The lady working there informed me it was a WC, hadn't eaten in 3 months and they could sell it for $20. Tempting. At least they were honest.
Petco, man those stores around here are a disgrace. Thankfully they only have about 1/2 dozen tanks so they can't stock too much.

Back to the subject of the post. Hopefully no one will get burned on a trade and the animal(s) can be shipped back without a problem.
