In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I am at a loss... (breeding)

I have had my male (Logan) and female (Phoenix) cresties shacked up together for a week or so. The first couple nights they were together Logan tried to put the moves on Phoenix... She chased him off each time. Now Logan just masturbates as soon as I turn off the day light and leaves her alone.

Finally, after a long night of staying away from eachother they cuddle up together on the glass behind a leaf and sleep the day away...

Q: Do some cresties just not mate?

The female started to look like she might have been gravid about 5 days after I got her (while she was in quarantine), every once in a while she still looks like she might be (when she is right side up on the glass). It has been a few weeks since I thought she was "showing" and I have yet to find any eggs.

Q: If she is gravid would they not mate?

Thanks in advance for any help.

i was frustrated my first time breeding cresteds. i had bought a male for my female and i started to house them together. 1 month went by, 2 months went by, then 5 months went by! finialy after 6 months, i found her being gravid. toke so long. i was about to give up. i would just give it time. also when my female was gravid i was able to hold her and when she sqiurmed to get away there where egg like bulgies on her sides. a few days later i found eggs in my egg laying chamber. well good luck.

same problem here on of my female has been with a male since feb and has only produced one dud egg but she is still witht the male so i hope she does something..just keep them together till she is gravid.....good luck

mine all have laid eggs within 6 or so weeks of putting them together...they can take breaks sometimes and females can retain sperm...I was just talking to someone who thought mating didn't work and 5 weeks later had a digging female...
don't give up, just be patient

Hi!

I've had a similar situation. The ONLY time I've witnessed copulation between my male and female was in the middle of February. The female is still producing viable eggs, and she still resides with the male.

I would guess that in my case, and possibly yours, that mating could be occuring at night, when we sleep. My geckos are all in my bedroom, and I can hear my male calling to her at night, but I can also hear her telling him off with her "NO!" grunts!:)

I'm a fan of just letting nature take its course. Perhaps certain combinations of geckos just won't breed! Kind of like humans!;)

man everytime i put my male in with my female with in an hour my male is on them i always see it ...it is awsome :) jk..but mine will do it when ever..what you can try to do to maybe get them to breed is make it a little hotter in their like put a heat pad on the bottom and make it humid in their and that might work...i dunno just a thought i hope you get some eggs though

Hm, if that were the case then it would have to happen btwn the hours of 0530-0800... as I get to sleep around 6 A.M. and they are back to their cozy spots to sleep the day away when my wife gets up at 0800. But I suppose that might be possible.

By the way... the male did it again tonight, I turned off the light, misted and he immediately went into his daily "self-gratification" ritual (not 2 inches away from the female no less) and has left her alone ever since.

In a weird way, it reminds me of my first marriage...

Lol. Sometimes the males get a little excited and can't contain themselves. Whenever I add a new female, some of my males don't even get over to her before they...well...you know. Give him a little bit of time and he'll learn to wait until he's at least on her before he does anything.

LOL!!! Ok, this is the funniest thread that I have read in a while! Geckos masturbating! Too funny!

Any way, this is my first year breeding cresteds, I had my male in with my female for months before the bred. The other day when I was cleaning their cage, I put the male and female into a bin in my Leopard rack together, and while I was cleaning the cage I heard this weird squeaking noise coming from across the room, well I got coser and was able to see them "Getting It On".....LOL

The squeaking noise is the cutest thing! I have never heard it before,. Leter that night, once I turned the lights off, he was at it again!

Just give them a while before giving up, took mine a few months.

Lol. Before I bought my house, I had to keep all my geckos in the bedroom. My husband and I would be trying to get some sleep and we'd hear them..."getting it on"...he always got SO grossed out ("Oh my God, I can't sleep with that going on!"), but I thought it was hysterical! Thankfully we have a designated gecko room and I don't have to hear him complain about not getting any sleep. :spinny:

Yeah, he did try the first few nights, she bit him and chased him off. It seems like he is just being lazy and doesn't want to put in the work to do it right.

No change, He's still being "lazy"

...

On a side note, every time SHE thinks he might be moving in to get down she goes into what looks like epileptic seizures (head shaking back and forth violently) until he turns away, then she stops...

I still wouldn't worry. I have some newly introduced pairs that can take MONTHS to get it right. Sometimes it just happens. Trust me, when your male is sick of her playing hard-to-get and him having to take care of his *erm* "needs" himself...he'll jump on and you'll have a gecko rodeo. Give him time, he'll get fed up with her antics. :)

P.S. The twitching she does when the male is around is completely normal.
