In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I have a mandatory training class tomorrow (all week), have to get up at 0530 hrs, and here I am, wide awake! :ack2:
I guess working night shift is a little tough to break for only a week--I was 25 minutes late for class the first day; 5 minutes late the 2nd. :NoNo:
I PROMISED I WOULDN'T BE LATE THIS MORNING--and now I can't sleep!
Tossed & turned for a little bit...I don't do the tossing & turning thing well. I know if I'm not asleep within 15 to 30 minutes of getting into bed, I'm in trouble.
I'm hoping that staring at this screen for a little bit will help make me drowsy (it does at work )...
IS IT FRIDAY YET? I WORK NIGHT SHIFT FOR A REASON!!!!

Troi -

If the problem persists, I recommend Melatonin. If you haven't heard about it, it's a natural sleep aid available at any pharmacy or supermarket with all the other vitamins and supplements. The reason I like it is that it's all natural, and promotes good, natural sleep. I work nights as well, so normally sleep late. If I know I have to be up early and/or will have limited sleep, I take one before bed. It makes 4 hours feel like 6. Good luck!

lol i have a post like this somewhere too. Im a big fan of Nyquil. ( Sparingly, it can be addicting, and one should be careful while taking it ) I never get as good a nights sleep as i do taking that stuff! ( I dont recommend anyone taking it regularly, but if you have a night you need to sleep, i would recommend it for a night or two if its safe for you to do so)

In the pharmacy department, there's a product called "Simply Sleep".

I think it's put out by Tylenol, and it's VERY GENTLE-NOT like having a house dropped on you and having the munchkins singing "Dong-Dong The Witch Is Dead".

My mom uses it all the time.

Me??

I use Temazepam.

I need the house and the singing...

Yeah, the thing I like best about the melatonin is the refreshed, ready to face the day feeling upon waking up instead of the "Why did I just take medicine I did not need soley for the side-effects? medicine head feeling.

TGIS (Saturday)! AND I JUST WOKE UP...after almost 10 hours of sleep!
Well, I made it through the class, graduated & got my pin...great class, but I'd have been much happier if they'd held it at night...
Thanks for all your suggestions--unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to see them until now.
Dave--when I was younger, I used to think I could sleep when I was dead; now, not so much. I was close to the using the rubber mallet...the link was lol funny & just what I needed this morning!
Mike--I actually take melatonin due to working on night shift, but never thought about it for sleepless nights. I'll have to keep that in mind, as I'm sure there's more training in my future...
Alicia--girl, I don't know how you can even stand the taste of that stuff! That & pepto used to make me puke after taking them. But if it works for you, it's all good. Thanks for the suggestion.
Donna--I'm leery about OTC drugs with some of the meds I take, especially when it comes to my sleeping. I will check into it though, 'cause sometimes ya just never know! As for the house & singing...just make sure when the voices tell you to do something bad, seek professional help! (That's what I learned in class this week!).

Seriously, though, thanks for being a support group for me--you all ROCK!

10 hours of sleep, that's like a week in Dave time.

Congratulations on making it through the class and graduating.

They have me on so many drugs that are supposed to make me drowsy, that I know knock other people I know out, yet sleep still eludes me. I'm glad you were able to find it.

I'm glad you liked the link. :D

I just read the 'related threads' listed at the bottom of the page...at least I know it isn't just ME. I totally forgot about the 'white noise' deal that Cat mentioned. I know that on a regular basis if my ceiling fan is not on, I can't sleep. White noise is awesome. I also have different cds; some with nature sounds (thunderstorms, waves, etc.) and some with just relaxing music. I tend to listen to the nature sounds most--but during a week like this, even that won't help. I do leave the tv on & set the timer, but also wear a sleep mask because the tv will wake me up if it stays on all night (day). Sometimes I will forget to set the timer...
Since I work nights, my room is totally dark in the daytime--we're talking window tint, pull-down shades, mini-blinds AND room-darkening curtains. Then there's the sleep mask and ear plugs. Yes, the tv is turned up a little loud so I can hear it while drifting off to sleep; even with ear plugs, I can still hear the 'white noise' from the ceiling fan.
As extra measures, I also have liquid pot potpourri burners filled with lavender scent AND lavender scented lotion to put on.
There are some nights, every year, though, when I just can't sleep--AT ALL. The longest I have gone without sleep was 41 hours. But that was back when I was in I.T., and believe it or not, that was more stressful than the job I have now! I don't have as much stress in my life now, therefore, I don't go through the sleep deprivation episodes like I did before. Now, it may happen once a year, if that.
I would recommend to ANYONE who regularly has sleep issues, whether it is not being able to fall asleep or feeling like you are exhausted even after 8 hours of what you think is good sleep--have a sleep study done. My neurologist did one on me because of my migraines. Come to find out, while I was sleeping for a good 8 hours (what I thought was good sleep), I was also tossing and turning to the tune of 40 times per hour. Needless to say, that is not conducive with QUALITY sleep. I was diagnosed with Restless Leg Syndrome, and it was considered a major contributing factor to my migraines. Got the meds figured out & it's all been good for the most part!

I CANT SLEEP

Ideally i love to get 8 hours each night but when im working thats impossible. I can manage on 5 hours minimum, but anything below that im a little dysfunctional the next day
At the moment im getting 6 to 7 hours per night, how many hours sleep do you need each night to function properly the next day ?

8 hrs per DAY is good when I'm working, but on my first night off, I usually just sleep until I wake up. Sometimes it can be as little as 6 hours, but more often than not, it's upwards of 10 or so...but I love the job & wouldn't trade it for anything!

Have you ever noticed how you can not sleep but about 1 1/2 to a hour before you have to really get up if you close your eyes you feel like Rip vanwinkle.

I use whiskey in varying amounts. Sometimes I have to adjust the dosage, but it works every time. Then again I guess that counts as OTC.
