In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I figured it out!!!!!!!!!

I am SO relieved now! No offense you guys I like Fauna and its still my main forum but you weren't answering any of my Leopard Gecko questions and I am NOT going to sit and worry. So I went to the KingSnake forums and ONE person replied to me and opened up the light of what I had actually already read and wasn't even thinking about. Gexies age is pretty unknown. I bought him in April, and he was a juvi then. His bands have faded away. Well the chick said Leos are known to make clicks, chirps, squeks and all kinds of weird noises. She said if he was over a year he could be calling for a mate. Seeing as how I see NO other health issues, and everythings good with him. She said not to worry about it. I also read Male Leos will act different around their female owners. Now that I don't why. I mean I'm a different species all together, but ok. He never made these sounds for Jeff, just for Mommy. It all makes sense and I feel SO much better now. It wasn't wheezing just chirping.

As for the heat I did some research. It seems to me its debateable and a personal preference. I donno. Even Ron Tremper said something about day light. I totally believe you guys about the uth, and will get one before fall. Gexies going to have to wait now though. I thought he was sick and got him heat first, which I don't think is going to hurt him for a couple of months. On the lighting side of it I read that Leos do NOT need daylight they are nocturnal. Sunlight is good for calcium production, but we do this with their powder. I also read that EVERY Reptile needs a photo period of light, and its been proven I believe that Leos turn out much brighter colored with lights. Is it possible to overdose on calcium? I wouldn't think the light would kill him because there ARE people out there that DO use nothing but the lights. I will get him a uth and I'm not mad about getting the light. At least he HAS heat now, its better then nothing.

If well...when I get more Reptiles or get his uth somebody else will benifit from this light. Possibly my Green Anole Picolo, and many other creatures down the road and it could be used for so much. I've seen pics of BP's with lights and I WANT!! Its all beneficial in the long run. The uth will be so much easier though. Once you get the hang of taking care of your Leo it seems pretty easy! Gex will be keeping the light for the next couple months like I just said because Jakers my Snake needs heat next and he gets it. I could have them share a uth though. Their beside eachother now with a notebook inbetween them so they can't see eachother. Gexies temps are a perfect 90 in the day to with this light and I enjoy that. He just laid his head on his water bowl today and soaked it up. Well I just can't type anymore for now. Peace! :)

Thats what I read, sorry. Geesh! Are you telling me I should still be worried about my Gexie? All people anywhere can do with Leos these days is argue! Nobody here even answers my questions and nomatter what anybody says its all wrong! Would somebody PLEASE tell me what DOES make sense!

I've heard the clicking and chirping noise from both male and female Leos. I believe it's more of an irritation noise (ticked off Leo) than anything.

That was me that had responded to you on KS. You read a lot more into what I had said then is actually there.

So, to help ease your confusion:

-Males don't react differently to female handlers. That being said, leos (male and females) can develop a preference for their care giver and will react differently towards that person.

-Males don't chirp for females. The follow the scent of pheromones, and when visually seeing another leo they will make a physical display to determine male or female before preceding to court the female.

-Some leos do make a lot of sounds when handled...yours may be one of them.

-Leos have sharp nails that can create a squeaky/chirpy sound when scratched against the side of their tank. This might be the sound you're hearing at night.

-If you have a leo and a snake in the same tank, with only a divider, your leo may be smelling the snake (a predator) and may be in a state of awareness and aggravation...he MIGHT be chirping at night in responce to the close proximity of a predator. I say that MIGHT be it, because I've never seen a leo's responce to having a predator near by.

-The reason there is a strong preference to UTHs is they can be left on 24/7 without disturbing the light cycles. A leo does need a heat source around the clock. While the light is on during the day, I'm sure your gexie is getting enough heat, but once that light goes out he's lacking a heat souce. This can be solved by either getting a night bulb to turn on at night, a ceramic bulb to turn on (they can get VERY hot), or getting a UTH to leave on all the time.

Yes, Leopard Geckos can make sounds. Some click, chirp, growl, bark, squeak, etc, etc. Mine do it all on their own sometimes, I mean I do not have to be disturbing them. They just do it :)

I was just saying that post made me feel better. Gex has chirped on his own, its not him scratching the side of the tank. I was just saying Daddys never heard it. You guys are reading my posts wrong now. I do absolutley not have two different animals in the same tank. They are in different tanks just beside eachother. No, they can't see eachother. Smell eachother, I donno? Gex, Jake, Tarantula, Scorpion, Green Anole, and my two Rats are just all in my bedroom. None of them can see eachother. I have a stand and they all have shelves. I donno maybe the Rats can SEE the Tarantula in the corner all the way across the room. Lots of people have different species in the same room. Gexie doesn't act like he can sense Jake. He doesn't stand guard or is jumpy or anything. I THINK I shouldn't worry about his chirping though. It DID worry me because all I had ever heard was his clicks an then one day I heard chirping. You had said pawsfoot if there are no other physical signs its probably just him making noises. Thats all I can really read into it anymore. I guess I'll stop worrying for now until I see mucus or abnormal poohs or something. So far so good though. I did say to that I will get him a uth but Jakers is more in need next and then Gex can get his. I promised myself I'd have it all set up. Nobodys sick. I just wish I could feel like I'm doing the right thing. I definatley mean well by all my critters. Gex was out running around today. Hes to cute! Hes pretty fast for a little guy. Thank You.

Ah, ok. It sounded like you were using the same tank and using the notebook as a divider.

You're probably just fine....you just got lucky and got a sqeaky guy.
