    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

I just had to share.

My husband woke me up this morning very early. And asked me "Is there something wrong with your gecko rack?" I said, "No why?" He said it's making all these funny noises. Sounds like a pager on vibrate! I couldn't stop laughing, long enough to tell him so I opend one of the tubs and showed him. He laughed and said "Wow, Gecko Porn!"

Normally I would have not been laughing so hard, but he just started to take notice of these amazing animals. And he truely seemed concerned over this noise. :)

LOL!!! I am hearing "a whole lotta shakin' going on" in my gecko room, too! I think it's even funnier when the tail rattles in the water bowl!

The only male I have breeding right now, has a very loud shake, more like thumping than vibrating. The first time I heard him shake it I was surprised. I can't wait till the rest of my males and females are ready. I have one other male that is ready size and age wise, but doesn't seem to be willing. He pretty much has decided he doesn't want winter to end yet. He's housed in a different room and I think the natural light that comes in has him running a little late. It's been so gloomy here with very little sunlight. It's fine with me, cause I'm still not sure I want to breed him this year, he was my first leo, and is just a normal, and is more of a pet then a breeder.

....Are they really that noisy? I never would have thought that they were. And what do you mean "tail shaking", is it the same as when they hunt their food? And is it only the males that do that or do females do the "tail shake" too?

Haha, that IS pretty funny Felicia!

It is a little like when they are hunting, but the males do it so quickly it makes a sound, especially if they are vibrating it on the side of the tank or tub LOL

In the water bowl? Havent seen that yet, probably makes a mess Im guessing though.

ROFL That is hilarious !!! The 1st time mine ever mated it took me about 10 minutes to figure out what the heck the noise was and where it was coming from.

Tonya,

Yes the males are the only ones that will do it. From what I read when I frist got into these guys, they do it at first as a greeting to see if the other is a male or female. The females may whip their tails during the courtship if they are not ready, and the male is too persistant. They do tend to have a one track mind, kind of like some other animals I know. LOL....ooops did I say that?

It can be a brutal courtship too. The first time I watched gecko porn, I freaked out and broke it up I was afraid for my male. The female he was pursuing was a meanine, but she has calmed down a lot.

OH Schnit...I just put Marian under a high power flashlight...she's a he...till today he hasn't shown any signs of being male, but when I inspected as close as he'd let me, I found the pores.....son of a.....gecko

:bawling:

tail rattling definitly is something that can draw attention. I learned its best to seperate the before large get togethers last year... hehe. Of course last year was a very violent first mating for me, and I will be going about it differently this season.

Just since we're on the discussion, I've seen a few kinds of tail movements and had some questions behind them. First of all is of course the mating shake or thump (usually males, but I beleive females can also do it). Any ideas why this is beneficial in the wild?

Second is the "twirl around and smack you upside the head" tail move, sometimes seen in females during breeding or just a plain pissed off gecko. Could the tail "gestures" (i will call them) have more meaning than we have seen because the ones we see are not in a natural environment? Just wondering why these traits would have been evolved! ;)

That's the whiping of the tail I was talking about....LOL I have a female that does it as soon as I open her tub. She hates to be handled. She does it to everyone and everything except one of my males. She loves him and never turns away from his advances. Boy is she going to be upset when I put another male with her this year.
