    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I advertised a Sandfire Red Breeder male Dragon, It was sold to the customer. WHen he received it he stated that it appeard to be a little lethargic and would let me know. Well he had the animal for a week, and he stated that it still was not eating for him nor would it breed his females and was appearing like it was brumating. I told him to send the animal back to me and I would evaluate the animal since it was breeding and perfectly healthy when I shipped it to him. I received it this morning, as soon as I opened the box, the dragon climbed out of the box and started climbing around my van like a normal healthy dragon. I took him to my faclity, placed him into an enclosure by himself and immediately he started eating crickets like they were popcorn. THen after 20 minutes I placed him back into the cage where he originally was with the same females, and BOOM, as soon as he hit the floor he started bobbing his head, and chased and was trying to breed my Yellow female. I told the customer of this and told them that If he did not want the dragon back I would refund his money minus shippnig cost both ways, and a 10% restocking fee, or if he wanted the dragon back that was fine as well and he would be responsible for the shipping back to him.  Well now he is threatning me with posting the whole situation on Kingsnake, and reversing the charges on his credit card. I sent a gorgeous healthy dragon and it still is a gorgous healthy dragon. I don't know why the customer is not happy. If it was not eating there and truly acting that way I don't know why as he is not doing it here.  What is everyone's thoguhts on this?

Do you have an official policy stating that there will be a restocking charge on all returns?

It sounds like the customer is in the wrong here.  However, in my opinion, I would charge the customer the shipping fees and let the 10% fee go.  Basically in a nutshell, is 10% worth the hassle?
 
I have since told the customer I will waive the 10% restocking fee and will eat the second shipping cost. I will have no problems selling the animal again so this should make him happy.

i'd go over some husbandry with this guy if he does wind up taking him back.  Not hot enough?
but i dont know about him threatening you to go to kingsnake--sounds like you didnt do anything wrong.  I dont know if I'd even send him back to the guy. especially if you have to pay extra to do so.

inform him that posting that stuff on kingsnake is against the TOS of Kingsnake.  If he wants...he can post here where people are aloud to do that.

So far I have heard only one side of the story and it seems like you are in the right....

I have to agree that you are in the right.  Sounds alot like an impulse purchase that goes back for a return, to me or could be like Dana mentioned, not hot enough.  I would be hesitant also to send him back if he decides he wants him again.  You may have to face this all over again in the end.  I would, like you did, just let the 10% restock fee go and leave it at that.

I have to agree with Ritchie, we've only heard the one side. I think we need an outside indepedent evaluation. Send him to me. I have a "test" female all ready  <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>  [just giving you a hard time Rob]

Definitely sounds like buyers regret.

From hearing your side of the story, I would definately agree that it sounds like buyers remorse.  The only thing I would have done differently is to NOT put him back into my collection (but I'm pretty uptight about that sort of thing <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'> ).  I think your offer to eat one of the shipping costs and refund the rest is more than adequate.  Personally, I would not send him the dragon back because if indeed the animal was acting as he said it could only be because of inadequate conditions.

Thanks everyone for your help. He has decided to accept the offer of refund minus 1 shipping cost. I am going to eat the other shipping and not charge the restocking fee. As far the animal not being hot enough, that was my thought to begin with.  I have now had him back in my facility 6 hours and he is still acting 100%  I have moved him to his own enclosure to let him settle in and basically to quarantine him for a bit. I don't have a clue as to why he was acting like the customer said he was. He is not acting that way at all. the customer asked me if I thought maybe the altitude might have something to do with it. with him being in Colorado and me in Florida. I doubt it.  And I have no idea why I keep finding the customers like this. I guess with all the sales and transactions I do it is bound to happen. But I think I am having a 1 in 200 ones that are a pain. Well thanks again everyone.
 
Well, it's not the altitude here, because I live in Colorado, and my male beardie is absolutely pissed that I won't let him breed the female I have (she's too young yet).  If he had his way, he'd be on her like a rocket... so I wouldn't blame the altitude. <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>  (I'm at 6,500 feet approx., BTW.)

ROB, I would not return the lizard to him. Give him back the money less the shipping and call it a learning lesson. This is not a customer but a problem and more problems in the future. When anyone threatens you with a charge back that should be enough of red flag . Its not worth the aggravation that you have encountered or will continue in the near future with these kinds of weekend herpers. JERRY TRESSER

          Some guys have all the luck .....LOL    Well its good you kept the dragon.  He could have had the temp or the humidity off or maybe even a poor substrate.  But who knows.  I just gotta wish you luck that you get no more of this type of customer this year, I believe your quota is already full.

Let me start by saying I know nothing of the breeding habits of beardies but what I have read so far here.

Is it possible that he used your very efficent beardie to mate with his female and then just sent him back?  I'm not even sure it works that way...  <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>

It sounds like the beardie was in great health on return and was keen to breed immediatly upon return too.   I understand it would be a health risk to his female not to keep them seperated for a while but if he is only interested in breeding the female and is after a quick buck would he care?

Just a thought.
 
Even before I got to the last post, I was thinking just like Belinda did.  Sounds like he pulled a cute little scam...got a breeder sandfire red male, used him for a week to breed all of the females he could (all the while telling you his sob story so that you'd be willing to take him back...means he had it planned all along) and then returned him to you.  Keep an eye out in the next few months and I'll almost bet that this individual has some baby beardies for sale.  Hopefully I'll be proven wrong on this one as the scenario stinks to high heaven but it just sounded too pat for me.

I think what you ultimately did was fair. Your customer did not give it enough time.  However upon taking the devils advocate, haven't we all been customers at one time?  I bought two beardies from different breeders.  One I personally picked out-the other was through the mail.  The mail order beardie ate from day one and was sweet as heck.  The other one that acted sweet at the breeders house came home and only ate 7 crickets in 5 1/2 weeks and wanted absolutely nothing to do with me.  I believe some dragons can be head cases until they get situated...
