    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I need your help

I have had turtles all my life and about 2 months ago I thought I would buy some for my little brother to enjoy. So I went to Lee Watson (Chicago) and bought him 3 RES, a map, and a yellow belly. All seem to be doing fine except one. I bought them all at about an inch in lenght and all have doubled except for one RES. He dosent eat alot he lovesjust to sit around and bask but thats about it. All the others are about 2 and a 1/2 inches and are eating like crazy. They are all housed in one 30 gallon tank. Is there any thing I should be worried about or is he just a late bloomer? -Jason-

Sometimes when multiple animals are housed together one animal gets bullied. This could be what is happening to your RES. I'd separate him from the rest and see if he improves. If you think there may be something wrong w/him physically, I'd take him to a vet.

Thats a good possibility, also that 30g tank is no where near what those five turtles require when speaking of space. It's truley no wonder....

The turtles are all being housed in there until the winter is over so I can set up my outdoor pond. But I do not believe he is getting bullied because I drop food right in front of him and watch him, if he eats anything it will only one or two river shrimp and thats it. I have tried fish with no response what so ever. So until then Do you think I should seperate them? Thanks for all your help. -Jason-

its really not the best idea to house differnt kinds of turtles in the same tank. It might be cool but its not heathy for the animals. and some times baby turtles just dont make it. Hatchlings turtles have low survival rate in the wild and captivity. Do you keep your filter clean? do you use a turtle block for the water? do you have natural sun light or a lightbulb equivalent? In a large anough tanks with proper filtration it lowers the risk of housesing multi-turtles of differnt species. good luck keep us updated.

I don't think there is a serious problem mixing those species but there is definitely the issue of space (the tank is too small) and the bullying is a possibility.
If you can separate the smaller, weaker, one and set him up in a warm ~80 F hospital tank of his own; he may fare better.

Also, if the turtles have doubled ther size in 3 months I would cut back the feedings.

Which foods are you using?
Are they getting a Calcium/D3 supplement?
