    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

So, I was talking to another herper eariler today and it dawned on me. How long have some fo us really been here? I remember when everyone joined together to help Marcia (Golden Gate Geckos, then Gecko Lady) raise funds for a lawsuit being filied against her by a well known cricket company for information she posted about the toxic effects their crickets were having on her crickets. I remember when Rich first put up other forums, and was in a partnership with two other herpers. I remember when the site got hacked, when the server fried, etc. I just can't believe it's been all these years! I think I've been here for 4 years, wow! I mean, that's since the begining. Remember when Kingsnake.com used to list the BOI on their website? When we pooled funds together to find out who broke into Neils store? There is just so much history here. What do you remember?

Yeah, I REALLY remember James Thornton pulling the plug on my server when he didn't pay the T1 bills. That was one hell of a sock on the jaw for me. REALLY pulled the rug out from under me, let me tell you. I had no choice but to lease my own server and try to figure out all of the stuff that goes into doing server admin functions. Pretty much overnight! And basically started from scratch again to build the site all over again from the ground up. Man, what a nightmare that was! Having to learn how to ride a server with all the admin headaches, then figure out how to use some message board system to get FaunaClassifieds up and running as quickly as possible.

Then I had all those committments that Thornton had made for advertising and then skipped off leaving me holding the bag. Yeah, and a bill for that private investigator as well.

I have had several people approach me about partnerships since then, but that one incident was enough for me to not even consider the idea.

i remember when the BOI first started and why (rich did you ever get your money?) and then the BOI turned into fauna classifieds.

i remember looking at python petes stuff and drooling (is he still doing reptiles?)

i remember when ron tremper was c.r.a.p.

i had no idea who the gecko lady was til almost 4 years ago LOL... mean mean ol gecko lady (i didnt know any of the gecko people before that only snake people)

i remember when texas reptile expos were still good (thats been a LONG time)
 
Yeah, I remember that. Man, was that ever a mess. I think there was only a few hundred members then, right? Then didn't James always say something like his daughter needed medical care so he had to pay her medical bills? There was someone else as well, but I just can't remember. Seems like only yesterday, but I guess it's been a few years.

Actually we had just cracked the 2,000 member barrier when Thornton pulled that stunt. It took a while to regain the momentum that had been lost. I really do not have very warm fuzzy feelings towards that guy. There was no excuse in the world why he had to do it the way he did. The really sad thing was that I really believed and trusted that guy. Pretty harsh lesson to learn, but I learned it well.
