In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I think one of our babies is impacted-help...

Well, so far we have been doing:

multiple warm water soaks
olive oil
gatorade
tummy rubs
no crickets
we're trying uth with an overhead heat lamp right now...

Is there anything else we can do at home today to try? I'm at the point where I wonder if a stool softener wouldn't be beneficial?

She has a hard mass in her tummy and is lethargic. None of her legs are paralyzed. She did regurgitate a little earlier. She is starting to seem really down. Her tummy is also looking "like the goodyear blimp" as my husband said... :(

Ok, his tummy is getting bigger... I'm starting to get pretty worried. He just sits there with his eyes closed. I can't stand this. I'm worried about him. If anyone can help it would be appreciated!

I would try soaking him for a longer period of time, say an hour or more. Make sure the water is warm, around 85-90°. If he does not pass this very soon, like tonight, he needs to see a vet ASAP.

I've been talking with her on another site and they said the baby's tummy was down some and also it is passing some urates, so fluids are going through. His color is good she says.

She has been advised to take him to a vet for an enema, but finding vets that know reptiles, especially one willing to take a tiny lizard patient that is impacted will be hard.

Few vets know how to do enemas on lizards. Once good thing, with it passing some urates, we know it is moving somethings through or down and since the baby is not paralyzed, that is promising that the impaction is out of the stomach, and dow a ways into the intestines... which makes it much easier to get out and also to do enema's that work

Sorry I didn't post an update yesterday (we had THREE spiders in a box of crickets that escaped so I had a panic attack and took my son to my inlaws until hubby got home...) anyways, peanut (the beardie) is still passing the urates. He is not bloated (I really wonder if the olive oil did it since he hasn't gotten any for a couple days and hasn't been bloated? Anyway, I am going to have to call the vet I think. His stomach has a really hard, large mass in it, and for his tiny size (he is the runt of the clutch) the mass feels awfully big. We have been trying a prescription calcium twice daily and daily soaks/tummy rubs along with off and on diluted fruit baby food (my husband doesn't know if food is a good idea since peanut can't go)... along with the heat lamp/uvb... I hope our vet can help!

Also, I REALLY appreciate everyone's help! And Cheri, thank you for your help, I really do appreciate it!

I called our vet who I really feel is sufficient and knowledgable. However, I did ask what are the treatment options for impaction. She said that PROBABLY they could not do an enema... I'm wondering if you all think I should look around to find a vet who will or go with my vet.
Peanut is about 6-7" long, and is about 8 weeks old. The girl from the vet said they could try fluids and if that didn't work do surgery. That makes me nervous not to mention I don't know how expensive that would be!
What do you all think? Thank you!

And just now I gave him a warm soak with belly rub and he threw up... only this time it wasn't just a little water, it had to have been food... is it bad or good that he threw up food?

Throwing up could be a sign he is impacted. The food can't go down so it comes up. That's just guessing, however. A vet visit is really needed in this case.

Good luck w/him and keep us updated.

I've called around and am still trying to find a vet who will maybe do an enema (controversial but I think it would be safer than surgery, especially since he's so small... fluids and surgery were my vets only options basically)

Well, the baby's at the vet now... We'll see what the vet says tomorrow when they call... Say a prayer for Peanut! :)

You know, an enema may be a completely contraindicated treatment. Until someone knows with certainty what the problem is, severe treatments are potentially dangerous.

An enema is significantly invasive. It could result in a rupture or prolapse.

Since home treatment efforts have not resolved the underlying problem, it IS time to consult with a professional who has the equipment and diagnostic means to diagnose the problem.

The urinary tract is a separate system from the digestive tract. One system can continue to function even if the other is completely shut down.

Vomiting, in light of what has been going on, IS NOT encouraging. Not only could it be the result of there being no where for the ingesta to go, as suggested by Karen H., but the retention of fecal matter can lead to sepsis. The longer the obstruction is allowed to remain, the more likely it is that the bowel will become inflammed and begin to die.

I imagine that this little animal is suffering. It is time to hasten a result.

Well, the vet called. Peanut is no worse, no better. Although he did pass some actual poop (which he hasn't done in who knows how long). He didn't pass a lot, but I'm hopeful that at least something passed finally!
Keep praying for Peanut...

Well, as of tonight Peanut is staying overnight again at the vet. He didn't go again. The mass in his tummy is still in the same spot and is still no less hard... I'm hoping for a miracle at this point!

Update

Well, the baby (Peanut) passed away last night... I just wanted to update in case anyone was reading this thread. It was a fight to the end but it was just too much for the poor little guy.
Thanks to all who gave advice. We really do appreciate everyone's help.

And please, if you're reading this, I would like to stress the importance of being careful regarding size/type of prey for your beardie and proper substates.

I'm sorry that things ended this way.
Did you ever get a definitive diagnosis about what was going on? Is it something that can be prevented or something genetic?

No. Ultimately, when we took him to the vet two weeks ago they treated it as an impaction. The impaction I believe highly to be due to overly large prey (crickets)... So yes, that is definitely avoidable. lol, I feel now that I have to stress the importance of proper prey size now as a result of this...
