    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Ian Curtis - Stolen African House Snakes

Just so you know, in most states, including Kentucky, you only need one party's knowledge(your's) to record a conversation or phone call. If he insists on talking on the phone you can record it without his knowledge, assuming he is also in Kentucky or another state that allows it. There are apps for this, or buy a cheap recorder and put it on speakerphone.
 
Ugh. Seems like he was waiting for that. Like Chris said, he's a thief. He must feel like he can win a judgment, but he'll still be a thief even if he does.
 
The responses of Chris Barmore are unsightly. Between the content of his communications and those of Ian Curtis, it appears that the KHS is an extremely untrustworthy and unprofessional incarnation of whatever the organization was supposedly intended to be.

When going by the the words and actions of its president and vice president, both of whom are either active or complicit with the theft of the OP's snakes, it would seem difficult for a decent person to justify wanting anything to do with Chris, Ian, or the KHS as it now exists.
 
Also, this is the FB message I sent to Chris Barmore, Peter Lindle, Mat Thompson, Kathy Hicks and Greg Ammon following my update. I wanted them to be aware that thanks to Ian Curtis, they may be legally responsible for their involvement as claimed witnesses:

"Much as it disappoints me to be writing this, I feel it is only right to let you know that Ian has chosen to welcome legal action to be taken against him and the theft of my snakes.

Some of you this affects directly (Peter, Mat, Kathy, Chris) As Ian has claimed you all as witnesses. The others I felt should be included in this, in case the progression of Ian's lack of communication/cooperation has slipped your notice. It is a lengthy read, but my post to the BOI forum details my attempts to handle this matter like an adult in every way possible. I think it would be in everyone's best interests to familiarize themselves with the details. My latest post shows my last conversation with Ian, in which he expressed his wishes quite clearly: "Please take me to court."

Also, did you notice that Ian had my address? As far as I am aware, the only way he could have acquired that was through KHS records. I do not believe those records were available for Ian's personal use, despite his newly acquired status as VP.
 
So in Chris' words if Ian does not return the snakes he is a thief....I think that says it all. Now the president of the KHS has proclaimed Ian in the wrong and a thief for stealing the snakes.....what would we all do under those circumstances? Well I for one would pat him on the back, tell him good job and appoint him VP of the KHS. Wow this is like a Twilight Zone episode, Sarah amazing how you wanting the right thing to be done has painted you a bad guy in the eyes of the KHS.
At least the whole world (at least those that check up on folks in the herp community) knows that Ian Curtis is a thief, even proclaimed so by the President of the KHS. Too bad Chris is not smart enough to understand that if Ian gave the snakes back he could no longer be called a thief.

You have been keeping excellent records and unfortunately, I'm not seeing a good outcome out of this. Like mentioned before, either he sold the snakes or they are dead.
He obviously isn't a man of his words. Saying he would call later and how he wanted to resolve this tonight and then NOT calling you and saying take you to court is the words of a coward.

Good luck with the court proceedings, I hope that they garnish his wages at work. :)

His reputation is preceding him already. I was able to divert a rehoming from him to me by just pointing out this thread. :yesnod:

Guess can't edit a post. Understandable.

What I meant was that he was going to get 2 snakes from someone via rehoming that was posted on the KHS, but I was able to point out this thread to them and now they are coming to me.

I totally agree.
That Sarah saw through all the machinations and is standing up for herself is a tribute to her, but she should not have had to go through all this.
I would hope in a search for KHS that this very informative thread would come up.
 
In Chris's words, Ian's only 2 choices are to be a thief, or a thief that got caught. I think there's also a choice to be a thief that made things right by telling the truth and offering an apology or remittance. At this point, there obviously are no snakes, and there is no attorney. Attorneys do not ever wish to remain secret, nor do they send out legal advise via text. (Not saying Chris doesn't have a friend who practices law). Ian, nobody believes you are flushing your reputation down the toilet in order to keep 2 house snakes. You are watching this thread, and responding in other ways, so just type up what really happened, and let this mess die down. It's kind of a waste of time to keep blowing smoke about meetings that aren't going to happen, and imaginary lawyers. I'm certain 99% of the people reading this could not possibly care less what KHS is doing, we would just like to see Sarah get this resolved with Ian.

Count me part of the 1% who think that the KHS has lost credibility and has behaved poorly, and is not an organization that I feel is in any way a positive role model for the herp community.
 
The KHS lost TON'S of credibility, seems they are supporting a thief.
I find is laughable John was Banned from the site because he was questioning Ian. And for Ian to use the site's email/physical addresses that are not available to members of the site, because HE is an officer, is gross malfeasance and he should RESIGN immediately!
 
Oh, I agree they've lost credibility and behaved poorly as representatives of the herp community, I just think it's up to Ian to make this right. The posse around him needs to back off, and he should just put the truth out there. If he's posting anyway, name the lawyer, take a picture of the snakes, just do something that rings true.

Wow, I have to say that I am stunned to see supposedly "professional" people acting in such a manner.

It's obvious this "society" is run more like a clubhouse rather than a professional organization. The KHS is involved whether they like it or not since it's an officer who is involved in this dispute. The way he has handled this shows his lack of integrity and willingness to screw over other members of the "club". I certainly hope there are no membership dues or no monies are expected to the KHS from members. I know I would not want MY money in the hands of someone so willing to steal it.

This Chris person looks as if he is trying to talk Sarah into dropping the issue all together and really should consider stepping out of this, especially since he insists the KHS is not involved. If it's not involved, then why is he trying so hard to involve himself?

This whole thing is disgusting and I am shocked that this Ian character has not been forced to do the right thing or resign. This is Ian's fault and Sarah should not be made to feel pressure from other KHS members (ie Chris).

Let this be a warning to ALL members! If Ian gets away with this, it kind of makes me wonder which other member is next.
 
Generally speaking pressure brings out what is already there. It doesn't surprise me John R was banned for daring to show light on the ethics of this organization on their website this is how they have traditionally dealt with dissent in their ranks from what I've seen, John is not the only herper I know who has received the ban hammer for not agreeing and dissenting from the leadership publicly. I hope anyone who has considered joining the KHS reads this thread and reconsiders. I expect this organization will continue it's downward spiral and continue to slowly consume itself. This whole conflict is sad and unnecessary and reflect poorly on the whole organization. As an active member of a herp society not too far away from this one geographically myself (and I speak only for myself not as a representative in any way of an organization) this saddens me to see the lack of quality leadership in addressing this issue, me personally I would have stepped down and resigned in order not to damage the reputation of my society whether you are right or wrong this is a losing proposition for the herp society when this happens. Never thought I would see the day when the ethics of the leadership of an entire herp society would be on the BOI for the world to see, this should have been handled internally long ago. First time for everything I guess. I think the good people (and I know some of the people in this organization to be good people) involved in the KHS should leave and start their own society that doesn't get themselves mixed up in such nonsense. Should be a "fun" day for the herp society members that are staffing the table at the Indiana breeders expo if they decide to attend this one. I imagine there will be a lot of questions asked that the representatives don't want to answer today.
 
Also....looks like the KHS is trying to get volunteers to attend the Louisville reptile show in January.....hopefully the show's promoter will heed my advice and dissuade this from occurring.
