• Responding to email notices you receive.

In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

  • IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ!! About the Google Adsense ads being displayed

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Whenever I hit a link to a page within the fauna site from a page within the site; when the page finishes loading, the browser window immediately pages down to the bottom of the page being viewed. Anyone else having this happen to them? It's not occurring on any other site I go to, nor does it happen the first time I come to fauna from any other site.:shrug01:

Additional info - does not happen when I go to my usercp.

I've noticed this recently on my old computer I am now using, but don't recall seeing it on my main PC. Since my main PC is in the shop right now, I can't try it so see if this happens there as well.

When did you first notice this happening?

I think it has something to do with the googleads. The page always positions itself to the bottom of the window when there is a googlead present at the bottom right side of the browser. If I go to a page without the ad, it doesn't snap to the bottom when the page is done loading.

Time to get firefox and ad block :)

I've been having the same experience for probably 2 weeks (or more?)- I think it is mostly when I access New Posts. I hadn't commented yet because I wanted to check things from work.

It's been doing it for about a week for me. I didn't say anything as I thought it was something I did....

It happens on most things I do here. It did it just now when I hit the reply button.

If it helps isolate the problem, the only time it does this to me is when I go to the new posts link. It loads the new posts, then jumps to the very bottom.

It has been roughly two weeks that this has been happening to me. I'm using FireFox on Windows XP.

(For example, there are google ads on this page I am writing in right now, but it did not jump down)

Great.... Something else I need to do........

Yeah, probably something Google is pulling to MAKE people look at their ads. :bandhead0

On one hand it pisses me off that they would manipulate the page their ads show up on, but on the other hand, if it works for them and it gets people to click on the ads, well it DOES help this site generate revenue. And to be honest, folks, if I have to drop nearly all methods for this site to earn money, then this site just isn't going to be around very long.

But in any event, I'll see if my programmer can "fix" this. If he can't then I guess I have to choose between losing members or losing revenue. Talk about being between a rock and a hard place.

BAHHH Don't sweat it too much Rich, I view it more as an irritation than something that would drive me away. Now, if those ads loudly played a 'Congratulations, you have won a free.....' message, then I might reconsider

It's been a couple weeks for me, as well.

Can you put the google ads at the top of the page? Seems like that may satisfy everyones' needs....

Do people really click on those ads? (serious question)

Yes, they do. If they didn't, and those clicks weren't generating some money for this site, I wouldn't have them here to clutter up the screen real estate.

Granted, it's not a LOT of clicks, but enough to be somewhat worthwhile as a passive method of generating some revenue.

No not everyone's. It would bump down the advertising banners and text boxes from my own FaunaAds advertisers.

This has to be something new that Google is doing, so perhaps my programmer has a work around or I can send them a gripe-o-gram for them to ignore.....

Same problem for around 2 weeks, no big deal. just scroll up to the sweet zone.

But I now know where to get them bird spikes if I ever run out of ammo!

This can't be related to google ads.

I appreciate if you help me on isolating the problem. Please see the screenshot attached. Where do you click (1 or 2) when it takes you to the bottom of the page?

If you click 2, it is normal because that link suppose to take you to the last post of the thread. But if link 1 is taking you to bottom, it is not normal.

It only happens to pages that have one specific google ad, the one for the bird spikes. If the page doesn't have that ad, it doesn't snap to the bottom of the page (where that ad is)

Edit - both options you suggest work normally, it happens if I hit the 'New Posts' link.

I normally will click on the arrow to the LEFT of the tag ([BAD GUY], [For Sale], etc.). I have always done it that way, and never before had a problem with being shoved to the bottom of the page.

Never noticed, though, if it was the SAME Google ad being displayed when that happens......... :shrug01:

If you hover your mouse on that arrow and wait for 3 seconds you'll see that it says "go to last post". So it does exactly this: It takes you to the last post of the thread. And if it is a long thread then last post will be at the bottom of the page and you'll end up there.

If you don't want to go to last post, click on thread title (arrow marked as 1).

This is preset behaviour of vbulletin and it has really nothing to do with google ads. You'll see the same behaviour in ALL vbulletin powered boards. ;)
