Jason, the point was that we "used" to have a right and it was taken away. And, in all honesty, I dont really believe all the "scientific proof" that 2nd hand smoke is worse than someone who actually smokes. Now, you may not smoke, or have family that do.

There was no comparison of reptile keeping to smoking by me. I was comparing what freedoms we have had in MY lifetime that I have seen taken away. I just see our rights becoming less important when it comes to choices. It seems as though the govt does not see us as being fit to make our own decisions ie... seatbelts, helmets, smoking, etc.. The only one here that would actually infringe on anyone else is smoking. You do realize that in some parts of Cal, you cant even smoke in your own car right?

Your lifetime covers more than mine has and I see the rights we once had that are no longer here. I have to strongly agree with Dean. It seems to me that were slowly turning into a dictatorship more less being told what we can and cant do.

But we are able to make the decision to put them in office IMO not like it really matters 90% of the goverment is ran by crooks, theifs, scam & con artists & liars. How many times have you seen a canidates agenda change once they were elected?

I mean I understand the Helmet laws new designs better safety yada yada yada even the smoking ban mostly becuase most of Cali is in Health Craze (But they have medical marijuanna im guessing so you can get baked and forget about the new make no sense laws that get passed)

But an animal come on now. If thats the case I think owning a cat or cats should be outlawed becuase quite frankly Im tired of having Cat feces in my sons sandbox and Cat prints all over my car when I dont own a cat

Just last night I read two articles that make me sick.

"Boys forced to turn their shirts inside out because it had an american flag on it... and the school was celebrating cin ko demayo (sp?)"

"13 yr old girl told by her art teacher she could draw that picture of the american flag because it was offensive"

By the way, I do not wear a seat belt while driving and live in a state where I dont have to wear my motorcycle helmet. Now, I do own a motorcycle helmet for when I do travel into states where I MUST wear one but, its basically a skull cap with a visor. They can throw me in jail as much as they want, but, I will NEVER wear a seat belt while driving as it is MY choice not to.

If I dont want to wear a seat belt.. the only one I am hurting is me.... why do I need the US Gov to protect me from me.

Get this... In AR you have to wear a seat belt.. but not a helment. Im safer in my care without a seat belt than I am on my bike with a helment.

I would just do what I could within the legal limits of the state....

Big constrictors banned.... I would keep smaller species

All boas and pythons banned...... I would keep colubrids

All snakes banned..... I would keep frogs and geckos

All reptiles and amphibians banned..... I would enjoy field herping.

My life is a little too nice to risk going to jail over wanting to keep a snake in a box..... Just my opinion.

That said all of the people out there that feel this way give up ALL the animals you own right now.Do you think they will stop with large snakes? Next it will be all snakes then geckos, the frogs, etc, etc. It will happen. It is that attitude that has gotten the entire country into the mess it is in. People need to remember that we are AMERICANS. Anyone remember history class? It took the masses riseing up and saying enough. I will NEVER give up any of my animals because the government says to. Remember the illegal trade in animals is the third largest business aside from the drug trade and fire arms. Just food for thought. And again I am not trying to offend anyone.

I mean the Flag dosent stand for what it used to in this country Money Power Respect and Greed are the crumbling points of are society ( The goverment is full of this they need the money for the power which leds them to think they have respect ) The United States of America was founded by people who stood up and said Enough is Enough ( Whats the point here Right?) Look through History and its easly proven sometimes you have to stand up and speak against authority and until then your point may never be made nor heard Acting a Fool does get more attention then following the rules But sometimes you have to Bend n Brake rules to get ahead

So your saying if I'm not willing to deal in the illegal trade of animals and risk going to jail then I should just give up my reptiles now....

I've been keeping reptiles since I was 7. There has not been a time in the last 26 years that I have not had at least one reptile with me. It's to the point that it's not even really a hobby anymore, but just part of who I am. I can't imagine not waking up to the flash of terrarium lights all clicking on at the same time and having my morning coffee to the sound of calling dart frogs. I live for summer when eggs start to hatch and I can finally see something I started working on over 5 years ago finally come to life. Reptiles have always been a big part of my life.

I never just claimed to roll over and not fight back. I write my letters, send my emails, make my phone calls, and even talk to elected officials that stop to talk at the college I teach at. But at the end of the day if we lose it's not going to make me a criminal. I'll do my best to make sure the people in office at the time are not re-elected and let the issue be known for a long time. Reptiles are a big part of my life, but they are not the only thing in my life. And I'm not going to go to jail, lose everything that I've worked years for, and lose time with my 2 boys over keeping reptiles.

We all have different frontlines in this battle. Matts frontline is that he has the capability to speak to general masses as well as politicians because he is a teacher. He will be more heard by the general population then say... me.

This is very much like a war. We need generals to grunts and everything in between. The one thing is that we all need to join together, whether it be by USARK or other organizations that support the cause. We need to make sure that our voices are heard.
