In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

IL CONSTRICTOR LAWS

joseph, what kind of snake are you holding in the photo? looks like a short tailed python of some sort...

Just so you know, "purchase" is a noun. "Purchased" is not a word. You bought it from a guy. You "make" a purchase, and you "buy" a snake.

Not a lecture...just thought I would mention it so we can learn.

And back to that constrictor law...each county, and more specific local law or ordinance could have more strict regulations, but on a state level, the supreme court precedence is 15 ft. The publication on the 6 ft regulation does only apply to pet stores, not private individuals.

This is the law:

"SECTION 0.1. As used in this Act, unless the context otherwise requires: "Dangerous animal" means a lion, tiger, leopard, ocelot, jaguar, cheetah, margay, mountain lion, lynx, bobcat, jaguarundi, bear, hyena, wolf or coyote, or any poisonous or life-threatening reptile."

It is not stated what is defined as a life-threatening reptile. The court decides this, and the precedence is 15 ft, not 6 ft. Again, this is on a state level, it does not include any local regulations that need to be followed within those borders.

Define

"life threatening reptile" since poisonous reptiles do not exist! A properly caged reptile regardless of species is a threat to no one.

it was toward gavin brink no one else just him

lol, I am not trying to stir up any trouble here. I actually thought that might be a light joke before I got back on topic. I actually appreciate when people will correct my grammar. It really only helps me. I would not take offense to it Joseph, it is only helping you in the long run.

However, I hope the debates on English are not causing people to miss what the Illinois law is on constrictors.

Anyway, I am not allowed to follow dictionary.com. I live with a journalist, and the rules on grammar are more strict lol. "Purchased" is not a word in Websters unabridged deluxe edition dictionary. Dictionary.com has accounted for its accepted use (mostly conversational use) over time. For those of us who live with someone who has a career with a standard of maintaining the integrity of the English language...we don't use the word "hopefully", we "presume" things will happen, for we can only "assume" a position, and we "buy" a snake. "Purchase" should only be used as a noun.

I don't really like to argue with folks that have the same interests as I do. Come to this weeks Chicago Herpetological Society meeting Joseph. We can chat about snakes and constrictor laws and I promiss we will be using bad grammar.

i was told by some one else about the chicago herpetological meeting but wasnt to sure were to go . But is it in wheaton were they have the reptile swap at ? cuz ive been wanting to go just havent found very much info on it if you could fill me in it would help

thanks
joe

Joe,

The Chicago Herpetological Society meeting is at the Peggy Notebaert Museum downtown Chicago (2430 N. Cannon Drive). It's right off of Lake Shore Drive and is right across the street from the Lincoln Park Zoo. Jim Harrison from the Kentucky Reptile Zoo will be speaking and covering the evolution of venom extraction.

It is not held at the Wheaton show. That is TARAH (The Alliance of Reptile and Amphibian Hobbyists).

If you are interested in big snakes and laws, you really want to get yourself known as a responsible person by some of the people in the CHS.

I hope to see you there.

I didnt have time to read the whole thread but here the IL law
or any poisonous or life‑threatening reptile.
http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilc...ENSES&ActName=Illinois+Dangerous+Animals+Act.

If the link doesnt work google IL dangerous animal act, what the definition of life threatening is has not been clearly defined, if you were to get popped with a big snake it would be up to that Judge to decided, the 6/8ft rumor pertains to pet stores only, its a dept of ag stipulation that pertains to retail open to the public regulated pet stores

now the supreme court ruling people talk about states that a 15ft snake is life threatening, the guy had 15ft snakes they determined his were illegal, they did not say anything up to 15ft was safe, they said 15ft and larger are illegal, make sure you understand the differance all the judges in his case could rule on were the animals in front of them, so one judge may find a 12fter to be illegal while another may not, what size is illegal has never been clearly defined

I am by no means a lawyer above is my understanding only your best bet is to consult a lawyer because il is simply communist, Jason in peoria was found guilty of possesion of a threatened species for having an alligator, gators have never been native to IL nor are they protected anywhere in the country anymore but somehow IL regulates species that dont occur here, like I said your best bet is to consult a lawyer
