    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Indeed, just what IS going on?

Old Adds

In that case, maybe a big flag on the thread can say "THESE ARE OLD ADDS, TO GET UP TO DATE ADDS, CLICK HERE" or something like that, so that people wont post on the old adds and make them appear to be newer threads. Or Maybe just the actual date can be made bigger and more noticable?
 
Or better yet, if I see a user maliciously just posting on those old ads for no apparent good reason, just delete that user. :reddevil:

Well after seeing a TON of visitors, I decided to try this just to see what happens. Unregistered and logged out members can see very darn little on this site at the moment. Nearly ALL of the forums show NO POSTS to them.

Just curious to see what it does to the ratio of logged in members vs visitors..........
 
I logged off just to get a peek at what the unregistered viewer would see...if it weren't for the occasional indicator stating that something had been viewed 4437 times (or whatever number was there), it would look like somebody was just setting up the site. Certainly wouldn't hold any appeal for somebody that just happened upon Faunaclassifieds.com and decided to check it out, but it should serve the purpose of getting people to log in, lol.

Does your software allow you to see visitor activity, it would be great to see what most of them are doing right now. I bet a lot are trying to find something in "announcements" or " terms" part of the site to see what happened.
 
Well it has had SOME effect. This is the first time I can recall seeing more then 1300 registered members visiting within the past 24 hours. So evidently some registered members are now having to log in to view anything here.... :hehe:
 
See that, that evil mean streak deep down inside you that likes to play with people is coming out, playing with people lives and thier will to seek knowledge of reptiles, to knowingly change the way the members, friends and family of fauna do things on a normal basis to enjoy each others company and share others experiences.

Well the experiment is over with. Didn't really seem to make a dramatic difference in stats for the site. Maybe a few more registered members logged in and it appears that we had a few more registrations because of it.

But nothing earth shattering. So we now return you to your regularly scheduled program........

Naw, I got it right. I was referring to the post just above that where I spelled My name Ricik. But it's all good.

Rich, that was just a short time too. Now if you did that for like a month, it may make more of a difference in the long run. Hard to say though.

Over all, I thought it was a pretty cool little test. It was different seeing the foruns index with so many zeros.

Well there are issues to consider. Bear in mind that anyone following a link from some search engine would not find the post that led them here. I have no idea if the archive being generated for search engine spiders was also locked at the time.

I have run into quite a few sites that simply block any access unless you are registered, so it is something that some admins do set up for their sites. At this point I can't really say whether that is advisable or not. I was actually a member of a support site for Starband that was locked unless you were a paid member. Since the value perceived of membership warranted the price, I paid it. But many people probably would not, especially if they could not see what their money was getting for them beforehand.

There are all kinds of ways to run websites. And all kinds of them that will fail for one reason or another. I would really like to think I know what I am doing here, but in reality I don't have a clue. I just try things and hope they work.......
