Hello All -
I have a few ads up on snakes I am trying to sell that have been part of my family and personal collection for awhile, as some of you may know. I have these ads placed here on Fauna as well as other areas, iHerp and Kingsnake.
I felt it was necessary to post emails here concerning the purchase of my Brazilian Rainbow Boa, Iris, by a man known as Michael Bell Isle, at [email protected]. I have since been informed this is a common scam (I wasn't aware). However I felt it was a good idea to post his name and information here in case someone else encounters him or has any information about him they would care to share with me. I am reluctant to think it is a true "scam", because he actually took the time to call me and leave a voicemail concerning the sale. But based on his demanding, pressuring and nasty attitude throughout the emails I have since changed my mind. I will stop rambling and let the emails speak for themselves.

Hi Michael,
I got the shipment quotes:
For FedEx PRIORITY Overnight it will be $75
For fedex STANDARD Overnight it is $60
With the heat and the fragility of rainbows I would highly recommend Priority. If you choose standard, I also recommend that with the heat extremes that you choose the hold at fedex location option and go and pick her up there so she isnt in a hot truck all day - Let me know which option.

Please put in the shipping system today. For fedex STANDARD Overnight it is $60 is fine with me.
I have two MO in route to you as I speak I would hope you get paid before the end of the week and have Iris here about the same time.
Also I would need a tracking number to follow her and be ready to receive. Shipping snakes is always a hairy thing for me. I will be available the entire time she is in route.
The heat factory is mainly across the US. And it is cause for concern. But once she gets to Western Washington she will be fine.

Hi there,
I received your message this morning. If she is sent with a cold pack for the first part of her journey everything should be fine. I, too, worry endlessly about shipping snakes. So thus my reservations and concerns considering she has to travel through very hot parts of the country and I'm not positive where her midway point will be.
Schedule pending i plan on shipping tues or weds. I'll check the temperatures also before i finalize and will be in contact

Apologies for the tardiness.
We have an unannounced house guest for the next three weeks. I’m sure you know how that rolls … they want to see your city, what’s there to do, and can we …. Ahhh.
The lawnmower went craps and I was afraid I might have to cancel the purchase of Iris to fix the lawnmower but the wife has assured me the is money for both so I will get theses MO out today.
I agree the only heat issue is in the middle. I am not familiar with a “cold pack” but was thinking something at least of a damp cloth.

Well .. yea this deal is going a bit sideways for me also.
So when you receive the letter I sent on Saturday just write on the outside “Return to sender” and I can get my money returned.
I think we both could have benefitted from this, but at least you still have your merchandise and I would hope to get me money back and we part as lessons learned.
No harm no foul.

First of all, it's not 'merchandise'. It's a live animal that deserves proper respect and consideration, especially when being shoved in a box and transported 3000 miles in July.
It is at my discretion when i ship, and because of your inability to accurately tell me when money would be sent or received it did not work with my schedule. I am not going to drop off a snake at 6am during my work week when it doesn't leave until 4pm to sit in a hot truck or back room, especially with a brazilian rainbow boa that can DIE at temperatures above 90. Additionally, it is my decision and policy to not ship a live animal until payment has been received. If you don't agree with that policy, you don't have to buy my animals. I have an excellent reputation in the reptile community and i will not destroy it with improper and unwise shipping. Clearly you don't respect her or me in your demands.
I'll be happy to refund your money, if it ever gets here.

So, I have yet to hear back from him in my last response. My mail has not come yet today, but based on what others have told me concerning this "scam" I seriously doubt the money will be in the mailbox either way.
I am wondering if anyone else has dealt with him at all? When he started calling Iris "merchandise" it really, really made my hackles rise. I don't like that.
