I picked up 29 ball pythons on Halloween, we drove three hours and forty five minutes to get them...we were given about forty large rats, and two packs of rat pups and a pack or two of weaned rats.
Chloe Elliot had these snakes stacked up, in tubs, in between her laundry area and kitchen. They were not in a rack, nor were they elevated off the floor, at room temperature. I understand that not everyone uses rack systems, nor do they use terrariums, but they make sure the snakes are at the right temps.
My concerns are:
1.) One 0.1 Mojave who is over a year old, who weighed like 103 grams or so when we got her, she now weighs 203 grams on empty. But this poor mojave has been through hell with Chloe. She wouldn't eat well for her, so Chloe has shoved rodents down her throat with a wooden bbq skewer on one occasion! (Only to have the rodent regurgitated later.) She doesn't care to have this snake because the mojo hates her...I can't say I blame the mojo either! It has taken us two & a half months to even get this poor girl where she will let us hold her without a bunch of fear striking. She even said she didn't give a fuck if she died!!
2.) Chloe had a fire ant & carpenter ant infestation in the tubs that she had stacked up in her kitchen floor and they had bit several of the snakes. To which she wanted to know if she could use benadryl on a snake because three of the snakes had open sores and were foaming at the mouth. One would think she would have taken these snake to the vet, but yet, she didn't.
3.) She had a mite infestation prior to me picking the snakes up, so she treated them with a heavily diluted chemical that is used to keep flies off of horses (pymethrin spelling?)...which "required" her to withhold water from them during their treatment. The "treatment" time was over a week and a half that these poor snakes did not have water!!!!!!! In fact, she told me that the larger snakes did not have water bowls in their tubs, that she just takes them out once a week and soaks them in the bathtub.
4.) I do have to give her this though...she did feed most of them well, I guess that is because she wanted them to hurry up and grow to breeding size. I do not believe in power feeding, and will not condone it.
