INQUIRY - [email protected]

If that's Gene Black, I urge you to take your business elsewhere.

He is a scam artist and at best resells animals within 24 hours of recieving them.

Hmmmm...

I think that's who it is... he approached me trying to sell and/or trade a really nice little reverse stripe albino male Leo for $350 + trade for my adult hypo-tangerine female I have for sale on my website. The pic he sent is just what I've been looking for, and has told me he has had higher offers for him. He's registered on the BOI but has absolutely no personal information listed, including his full name.

Can you tell me more, Steve?

I can easily put you in touch with the person who produced that particular gecko. He sold it to Gene for $125 shipped and Gene put it on sale for $1000 the day it was recieved.

The breeder is actually in my area, and a friend of Ross Payan's... I happen to have contacted the breeder upon initially seeing the leo up for sale by the breeder.

Oh, Gene Black is also the one who used a picture of Ross Payan's killer red stripe male purchased from HQR to try and sell it to HQR!

Let me check my email account and I'll PM you with the email address. The breeder is Amazing Geckos, his name is Naim.

Well, the only dealings I have had with him are a few e-mails. He inquired about an ad I had on kingsnake, asked for more pictures, and pictures of the parents. After I sent them I didn't hear back for a few days, when I e-mailed him again, he responded that he wanted the Father, 90 gram baldy Super Hypo Tang/carrot tail cross that I clearly stated was not for sale in original e-mail. I reminded him again that the Father wasn't for sale, and never heard back from him. Not sure if that helps you or not...

Well, well, well...

I emailed Naim from Amazing Geckos, and here's his response:

Please thank Ross and Steve. Gene Black, does that ring a bell? First of all the lizard I sold him was temp sexed for female and looks female to me, but you can never be really sure at that age. Now my opinion about Gene. I have been on Kingsnake for some time and I have seen some of the antics this guy does. My business deal with him when quite smooth I must say but I wonder about his integrity. He listed that girl the day after he received her from me. Anyone who cares about the animals they own would have waited a fews weeks before trying to sell her. Or at least give her time to settle in. And for that I would never do business with him again. I am sure that Ross has filled you in on the pic incedent? If not ask about it. It is a real good one.
I don't have any more stripes as yet. That one came from a Jungle to jungle breeding they are also throwing banded babies and nice Jungles but no more stripes. Sorry I could not help you with that.
I hope this infomation helps.

Sincerely
Naim

Subject: Striped Albino Male Leopard Gecko

I was referred to you by Steve Beckerman and Ross Payan. I have been looking for a male striped albino Leo, and posted it under "Leopard Geckos Wanted" on the Fauna Classifieds. I received an email from someone who would not identify themselves that has a beautiful striped albino male(?) for sale, and we have been going back and forth for a few days over a sale/trade negotiation.

I posted and inquiry on Fauna Board of Inquiry about this guy because he would only give me his email address. Here is the link to that post and the information I got back: http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=57476#post57476

Anyway, if you can provide me with more information on this particular Leopard Gecko or the person who's email is [email protected], I would appreciate it very much. Also, if you have any others available like this Leo, I am definately interested!

Thank you vey much!

So, you can see the little Leo isn't even a male! I would LOVE to post all the correspondence I've had with Mr. Black, but I am goiong to email him with a link to this thread first.

Ewwww.... Gene Black

I have never dealt with this guy... the only correspondance I had with him was when I told him to stop sending pictures of my red stripe male out claiming it as his own.

I still feel bad about what he did with Naims animal... who would ever turn an animal around and sell it within 24 hours of receiving it?

Well anyways, as far as your inquiry goes, I would NEVER deal with Gene Black.

The funniest thing is he was on my mailing list before I found out about the whole pic stealing incident, yeah needless to say he isn't on my mailing list any longer.

I received this response from Mr. Black to my email to him in regard to the responses from this forum. You might be interested in reading it and my response.

Mr. Black,

No, there is absolutely nothing wrong with buying animals and then reselling them for a profit. Petco does it all the time! The problem I have (as well as most other responsible breeders) is that for the health and well-being of the animals, they should be given a proper amount of time to recover from the stress of shipping before they are sold/shipped again. This kind of practice sends the message loud and clear that you could really care less about the animals themselves, but rather making the profit. Most would consider this unethical and raises a 'danger' flag.

What concerns me is that according to the breeder you got this nice little striped "male" albino from, he is really a "she" and you were completely aware of it! That means you blatantly lied to me, and now your little "lizard laundering" business reputation could suffer as a result. Had you been honest with me about this from the start, and even gave me your name when I asked, I may have even considered buying the Leo anyway and having you ship 'her' in a few weeks. As far as trading cash plus trade for my Hypo-Tangerine adult female, I'm really glad I got the scoop on you because if I had gone through with the deal and she died as a result of stress from being shipped twice, I would be very angry and heartbroken.

It is my opinion that when someone's name "gets dragged through the mud," the vast majority of the time it is a result of their own shady doings... and they have been caught at it!

OH WELL!

This is the final correspondence with Mr. Black, and I find it odd because he was the one that initiated the proposed deal in the first place, and all of my emails to him have been only responses to his! His attitude just confirms in my mind that the comments made on this forum regarding my inquiry on him are true... thanks to all!

Re: OH WELL!

well since i found out that you judge people before you know

I'd say the word of two people who have directly dealt with Gene Black in this case certainly was enough to pass judgement.

them im glad you didnt do buisness with me

So are you I'm sure

i have approximately 0ver 500 satisfied customers all around the u.s

Wonder if he can list them? He likes to throw around big names, anyone want to test them out?

i didnt know if the gecko was female

So he tried to sell it as male to get more money

and if you look at your stupid emails

Name calling?

why would i check 2 times and then ask you if there was another way to be sure .

So he doesn't have a clue how to sex geckos, wonder what else he doesn't know? Guess he's gotten real lucky so far with those 500 satisfied customers!

i keep my geckos for 2 weeks after they arrive and more if there not eating

So why is this gecko being aggressively sold within 24 hours of being purchased?

i also have arrangements with fedex and my animals are only in transit for less than 12 hrs.

Don't you wish we all could get these arrangements?

please do not email again or ill put you out under harassment

put you out? not sure what he means be that exactly. Interesting that deciding against a deal upon discovering his fraud is harassment by you?

Ah well.... the BOI successfully at work, isn't it wonderful?

I would report him to KS for the way he's dealt with you. He does have this animal up for sale there.

What a LIAR!!!!

i didnt know if the gecko was female and if you look at your stupid emails..

Are you positive he's a male? How old is he and what is his weight? Ron Tremper has them available for sale for $XXX, but they are pretty small. If your little guy is definately male, I would consider negotiating with you... he's just what I've been looking for.

Hmmm... Sometimes when they are real young the females look a little "puffy" down there, too. As far as the males, the pores don't really get real prominent until they are abour 3-4 months old. Can you ask the person who bred him what temperature he was incubated at?

Can You Say Busted?

I'd say that Gene Black definitely got caught in a bit of a lie here...

So far we know he steals other's pictures and claims them as his own.

He buys animals and then puts them back up for sale within 24 hours, so obviously he can’t be sure they are healthy.

He lies about his animal’s sex, in an attempt to make the sale.

And after getting caught in a lie Mr. Black then threatens to "put Ms. McGuiness out" for harassment...

I think its safe to say that Mr. Black is someone to steer clear of.

Amen to that!

It's funny, because I got an email from someone else who had a negative experience similar to mine with Mr. Black. I would like to encourage him to post it here so the forum can have a good data base of information on this guy. Not to mention that I didn't "judge anyone before I knew them!"

Gene Black

I had a Ray Hines male for sale back in I believe Feb, on the Canadian Kingsnake Lizards for sale. This Gene Black emailed me
saying that he had a trio of blizzards to trade. I asked for pics. His story changed to a pair of blizzards. I then said forget it. Then he said hes got RED cresteds for trade. I asked him for pictures. They were no redder than my normal fires. So I told him forget it once again. Then this is where he got nasty. He said both groups of animals for the Hines male, and demanded that I ship first. I got my guards up and told him absolutely not, and he emailed me all nasty. After that I erased his emails and didn't even bother with him. I have been screwed too many times to actually fall for another one.
This guy is bad news, and is only out to make a buck.

wow gene black sure is consistent!

Hello

My advice about Gene Black- STAY AWAY FROM HIM. I would never sell or buy anything from him.

To make a long story short, my experience dealing with Mr. (or minor) gene black is very consistent with marcia and beth. It seems he has a bad habit of contacting people (usually people posting animals for sale that specify NO TRADES) and offering animals for trade. He contacted me earlier this year with a trade offer but i kindly said no thanks.

At the time he was also accused of stealing someone else's gecko pictures and trying to sell that animal (even though I know the person who has the gecko in his possession). (Thanks ross for the forewarning!). It was confirmed that the accusations were in deed true and i confronted gene black about using pictures that were not his.

Unfortunely, I didnt save all his emails. But he said very similar things to me in emails to Marcia. "You're judging me before knowing me" "Stop emailing me" etc etc. I must also add that he never did deny using pictures that were not his own- that gives you an insight on his character.

I also noticed the other day he was listed on one of my waitlists. Needless to say, his name is no longer there. It only took 2 seconds to cross out his name to save a few dreadful headaches and nasty emails. I would recommend others to do the same if his name is on your waitlist!

Gene Black has proven by his OWN actions and words that he is untrustworthy, immature and a total disgrace to anyone that breeds/brokers/sells reptiles.

PS- did i mention that he purchased a gecko for $125 and was reselling the same gecko the next day for $1,000? (please correct me if i wrong)

I hope the word gets around to everyone now

Whoo...new member here...

I've seen this guy on the classifieds before...When I saw a post at kingsnake I figured it was this guy. I asked around a bit and was directed here.

What stands out the most about this guy to me was the 'black blizzard' he had for sale last year in the kingsnake classifieds.
Not only was the poor thing pretty skinny to begin with the cage that the animal was in was disgusting. Needless to say it was ripped off the classifieds in a few hours.

I'm not sure how many people remember that, but I figure I'd add that to the posts here.

Ooops...

Apparently I was given a warning for not stating that I was speaking about Gene Black.
Just to clear up any confusion.

My first post and a warning, all in one night ^_^;
