    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Inquiry on Captive Born Reptiles - Terry Wilkins

I know this is an old post but I'll throw my 2 cents in. I also drove to columbus for the All-Ohio show and stumbled across this store. That store should be closed and the owner should be put in jail on animal cruelty charges. It was the filthy and stinky. I wouldn't have taken an animal from there if HE PAID ME to take it. Its very sad that this store is allowed to stay open.

I honestly think Captive Born Reptiles goes past bad husbandry. It is much deeper. It is a lifestyle of fith and trash. Image what the owners house is like...
 
I also live in Columbus, Ohio, and have visited CBR. The store owner "hates" the all ohio reptile show because 'the vendors there take bad care of their animals, and allow owners to buy them without informing them of there care.' He told me that he 'would never let anyone leave his store without the proper equipment to house the animal'...He needs to take a dose of his own medicine and take proper care of his animals! The poor turtles are over crowded and live in shallow water with no land to completely dry on, same for the alligators, no land, in small cages. The place is horrible smelling, so bad that you can barely breath. I don't know how they are still in business! It's really sad. I wonder if anyone has ever said anything to them.

That's really funny... because the last time I went to the reptile show, guess who was there? Ol' boy Terry. I've been to his store to purchase feeders (always frozen!) and have run into him a time or two. In any case, I was talking to a vendor at the show about some ATBs (which he sells and advertises as Cooks Tree Boas) and he shouted hello to her as he walked by. She shouted hello back... and I finished up my line of questioning and went elsewhere.

I have bought multiple reptiles from Terry. I have never had a single issue before. He has even help nurse some of my animals back to health when they were sick. I have had nothing but good experiences with Captive born reptiles.

i went to pick my buddy up at the airport three weeks ago and thought i would stop in and see what they had to offer. every snake over 12 ft had shed flaking off or was laying in crap and old shed material. was in store a total of 3 minutes and was worried about what i might bring home to my own collection. felt bad for the reptiles. was a major disappointment.
 
Agreed! I have been in there before and found a dead dumerils boa that was in with other living dumerils. I live 45 mins from the place and have been there a few times and refuse to ever go back. Jeff
 
My husband and I made a mistake by getting a box turtle from there. The care advice that was given to us was almost fatal. Our box turtle wasn't acting right and I had to call a friend who lives out of state who is very experienced with turtles. Luckily we were able to quickly make some adjustments and she is healthy and happy now. Had we not called our friend, our turtle would not be alive.

Terry's daughter told us that all we needed was a blue light in our tank for it and just to feed it pellets. Great! Now he's got his own kid telling people the wrong thing.

When we were in the store, we heard him tell someone else that if something goes wrong with their snake to bring it in there and NOT take it to a vet. WTF?

I don't understand why this business is still open. The weird thing was, I tried to look up some information before going there (looking for good and bad reviews) and I only found one bad thing written about him...something about a snake that someone wanted to buy. I wish I had known about Fauna Classifieds beforehand, then I would have never stepped foot in that place. I don't know if my Google-Fu was failing me that day or what...
 
Wow.. The status of this place hasn't changed in all these years? Really? Something has to be done about this! I wish I had the power.. Anyone that's local to the area should take some photos and report them! Poor babies :(
