Have you ever seen a Maadi? To say that they are more functional then they are a thing of art is an understatement. My brother-in-law won't even shoot mine as he feels they are just a pipe with a trigger!
I've put back around $5000 thus far for my Barrett M107. Needless to say, I have a little more ways to go as I want the Swarovski scope etc. Hopefully, if the breeding Gods will bless me, then I hope to be shooting it by mid Summer.

Yeah, I've seen the Maadi at some gun shows. When I was originally looking for a .50 I knew I didn't want a shell holder style rifle. Seemed like it would be a pain in the butt. If you are going to get a single shot .50BMG, the M99 is the way to go. Plus Barrett is just a fine company to deal with.
When I was looking for a .50 for my 50th birthday, I was considering a Serbu, but after some discussion on one of the message boards, I decided he is not someone who I want to do business with. And in retrospect, I'm glad it worked out that way, as the Barrett M99 is hands down a better product, in my opinion.
When I originally got my Model 99, I put a Swarovski 10x fixed on it. It's an OK scope, but I think the Nighforce is much better for the money. Don't even bother getting the Swarovski "Christmas tree" reticle. It's calibrations START at 500 yards and the reticle is calibrated for the Raufoss rounds.
I wound up trading my Swarovski in a tradein for a Nightforce scope and it's a much better piece of glass.
Right now I have a Sheppard scope on the Barrett M82A1, which seems pretty nice, but I haven't shot it enough to get a firm opinion on it. I still have my doubts about it holding up for long. Sheppard used to advertise their scopes as being .50BMG capable, but they don't any longer, which is telling me something. Whatever you do, don't waste your money on a cheap scope for the .50BMG. At best, it may last 30 shots and then it is history. The push-pull effect of the muzzle brake rapidly kills scopes not designed for it.
