In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Interesting Color Please LOOK

Axanthic??? Pics inside! *COLOR EXPERTS NEEDED*

Ok,
Bought these two as possible axanthics. They are very unique snakes...not sure if they are axanthic or not becuase they are not just black and white. They have NO YELLOW PIGMENT anywhere on them at all. Where the yellow flecks usually are it is all white flecking. They have black and chocolate brown on them as well. Does anyone think these are just pretty kewl normals or are these axanthics. They are very ltc snakes and easily handled. Either way I am VERY happy with these snakes, I just want to know what everyone thinks! I am not sure but I know having zero yellow pigment is weird!

Ryan,

If they were raised from babies, chances are they are not (the owner/breeder should've noticed it then). If bought as WC adults you would have to prove them out to be sure. In my opinion the one in the last picture is not an axanthic, as I can see some yellow on the sides. Remember that older snakes tend to loose their yellow pigmentation.

Try them out and best of lucks!

The story I got on them is they are bush babies that were bought by someone who wanted pets. The person got rid of them becuase they were sick of their "drab" color. They are only about 3 years old. They have been breeding so we shall see. But I don't know about the pics they really have no yellow and when I place them next to my normal ball pythons there is a very big difference. About what age do they lose their color? I have here two pics of one of the balls next to a normal python who is a March 04 baby. Hopefully this can add some comparison....

About what age do they lose their color?

It's hard to tell as it varies with individual animals. Some will maintain their yellow well into adulthood, other have been known to change color in just a few sheds. There are lots of things we are still learning about ball pythons.

Regards.

Ryan,

Those pictures show a much better contrast. You were right he is definitely axanthic-looking and it's worth giving it a try. He is actually better looking than similar sized axanthics from proven lines.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Luckily this is a 1.1 pair. And they both look the same :) The female is gravid now as we speak. I swear I think on some websites they use photo impact, or photo shop and black and white the photo to make the snake look better. cause some of these axanthics are just straight black white and grey and that is it. So I guess I will know for sure if the eggs hatch without any yellow pigmentation. What is an axanthic worth? I am just pleased with the snakes. They are both very tame and gorgeous regardless if they are just a drab normal :)

In reality most of the adult axanthics loose their black and white color to a more brownish hue. Those black and white adults could have the looks of the axanthic (no apparent yellow), but there is no way to tell if it's a genetic inheritable trait until you breed two similar animals together (or chain-breed the sire to his "normal-looking" daughters). The other thing to know is if a "new" axanthic line is compatible with the albinos in the market to produce "snowballs". This will also determine how much you can ask for an axanthic from a new line, but it will take more time to prove them out. I've seen pure black and white axanthics CH babies go for half the price of those CB from a proven line. As far as price goes axanthics have dramatically dropped in price in just one year. This may be due to the appearance of other new morphs such as the "ivory". For current prices check the Sutherlands at ballpython.com. It is unlikely though that you could get the same price for yours initially (with all due respect). As you probably know the market price is set not only by the animal's looks, but also by the reputation of the breeder in the market.

Please post about the progress of your project!

Ryan,

There is currently a juvenile axanthic female (D&M bloodline) posted in KS for $4,000.

Regards.

Thanks very much! I am not looking to sell these, although if I get a viable clutch and the babies that come out are lacking yellow is it safe to assume its axanthic? I am planning on trying to create snowballs. Currently I have a het albino male from Mike wilbanks that will be breeding size in september. I am hoping I get a clutch and prove these guys out to hopefully do a trade for a het albino female or better yet an albino (at least partial trade). Either way like I said these guys are awesome, extreamly tame, and have been VERY LTC so they are practically captive bred in my book. And the price I paid is worth the breeding sized female....she is about I would guess 2500 grams or more! I do appreciate your help very much!

Ryan,

Not a problem. I really admire enthusiastic herpers that know what they are doing. There is another ad in KS for a pair of SK axanthics with paperwork going for $4,500. Maybe if I get to produce albinos this coming season (I've got a pair of heteros) we can do some business.

Take care!

You can definatly count on that! I would absolutly love to!! I am actually very excited about this pair...the more I look at them and compare them to my five other balls the more I am convinced that they are indeed axanthic! WOW my own line LOL, I haven't been this excited since I won best in show with one of my woolies :)

Ryan,

I should show you a picture of my axanthic-anerythristic ghost (I labeled him silver ghost) that I bred last year. This was a joint project with Randy Remington, regrettably we had one very small clutch (3 eggs/3 babies) that are all doing very well. We expect them all to be 100% heterozygous. This is a very exciting project as these are the first time they have been bred in captivity to my knowledge. He has sired several females this year so we will see if we get lucky.

Regards.

No, regrettably I don't. That's my daughter's domain! :)

You should get it then we can talk quicker LOL! Anyway I hope to get into snowballs so if this clutch proves out I will probably be looking to trade any males for big het albino females, or albino females. If they do prove out I feel this would be a fair trade. The silver snake sounds great...you can email me photos to [email protected] if you have any. Currently I have a het pied male, het albino male, normal adult female, pastel looking sub adult (not actually pastel though) female in addition to these two axanthicky snakes.

We could also go to the BP chat room, sometime. I also have an hetero pied from the Sutherland that has sired 3 females this season. I'm expecting 50%ers. I have a female hetero pied from Kahl but she is a 2004 juvenile, she will have to wait. I have an early 04' male pastel 50% het for ghost that will be ready to go this next season. Very nice looking snake. Several projects inlcuding an cinnamon female I acquired before anyone even talked about them, and a male from Ralph Davis. I also have an incredible jungle with the most amount of white I have ever seen. I'm also into boas with some neat salmons, DH ghost, and anerys. Some neotropical colubrids and a rodent breeding colony. Enough to keep me busy when I come home from work!

Regards.

These are some big IFs though! I am getting way to ahead of myself though...would just be amazing if they were!

That's precisely the exciting part of all this, the "what ifs"!

Regards.

WOW! Pied are nice as well would love to get some het females for that. Mine i picked up for about 300 dollars off of here actually. Breeding sized, he actually is bred to my other adult female...I am expecting a clutch from her as well. So that will be nice to have. Yeah anytime you want to meet in the chat room let me know. Just from all the looking I have done I really do think that these are indeed axanthics...even if the yellow was there and faded away it wouldn't explain the dramatic difference in over all color as well!
