Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them.     Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Is a spinal Kink Genetic?

I have this beautiful little leo that i do believe is a male and i would like to breed him when he is older but he has a spinal kink. I would like to know if it is genetic. Because i do not want to breed my leos and have them all have kinks in their spine.
 
The only way to know for sure would be to breed him and hold back all the offspring for a year or so and see what develops.
I had that problem with an African House Snake and held back the young. I don't remember the exact number off hand but a majority of them also developed kinks at about 8 months of age.
Needless to say the entire clutch and the mother will never be in any breeding program.
 
when you're not sure, it's better safe than sorry. It's just as likely that the kink is genetic as not... I would suggest not breeding that particular animal.

I agree wholeheartedly with everything else posted. I have also heard of spinal kinks being due to extreme MBD as well. In any case, better to be safe. There are plenty of unkinked males out there, why risk it?
