    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Is Negative Karma Automatically Given When You Receive an "Infraction" Warning Here?

I'm just curious about that. I received an "Infraction" from Rich for asking someone to stop being an "A-Hole" here-

I don't understand, I did a search for the actual word (not A-hole but the word itself) and there are a ton of posts were people call someone else the actual word itself and they received no infraction nor had hundreds of karma points taken away from them.

What could be going on here???
 
I replied to the abusive post in question warning the poster to cease with that kind of talk outside of the BOI. He was given an infraction and negative karma points for that post.

Your post was basically the same thing, and as such, deserved the same penalties.

In my opinion, your followup post was likely to only crank up a flame war in that thread, just as the original inflammatory post was intended to do. Both were not appropriate in the Feedback forum, and dealt with accordingly to inform the posters that this sort of behavior is NOT acceptable here.

And to answer your original question, no, negative karma points are not automatically tied to infractions.
 
How long do the infractions last?

Do they just stay on the violator's record until enough are racked up and one gets suspended (even if it's over a period of time) or does one get a clean slate every week or every month?
 
For the record, I posted that comment on the wrong thread. Thought I was replying to the "Holy Crap" thread. My apologies to the OP on the other thread, the comment was not directed at him/her.

I can assign any period of time I would like for any individual infraction. I believe most of them are set at 1 year. Some of the more minor ones are set to expire in one month. I can also set the duration of the banning for various levels of warnings as they are accumulated. This new system is a WHOLE lot more flexible then the older warning system.

Damn, John, and you have been doing so well with your posting.

Didn't you happen to notice that two others got infractions and negative karma for the same type of message you just posted? To be fair and even handed, I've really got no other choice but follow through with the same penalties to you......

I don't suppose anyone has considered that maybe making this site easier for myself and the mods to administer might be appreciated now and again....... :rolleyes:

You are right! But, I thought I worded it nicely enough. I actually didnt call him one. I asked who was one.. I thought it to be a little different. My bad Rich.. I'm still working on it lol..

I don't know if it's related, but there was a change in the Karma system some time ago that adjusted how many Karma points we had to be more related to how many posts we had, etc. I just wonder if hundreds weren't deducted, rather it was a coincidence.

I don't know, but it's a possibility.
 
Thanks for the explanation Rich. I think you know I don't care about the Karma points (based on our discussion the last time you hit me with negative hundreds of points); it was just the principle of the matter I was concerned with. I was only trying to stick up for the website, it won't happen anymore.

Thanks Kelli. I really wish everyone wouldn't abuse the functions of this site. But I have to do what I have to do when it happens.
