In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Is This a Direction Fauna Should Go?

I will agree that you were not having the discussion with person (I never said you were)...but you were spouting off some pretty inappropriate stuff when you knew he was there. AND, since you are so incensed by the topic of this particular thread, I'm surprised that you didn't intervene when the other person started with all his comments. They were much more inappropriate than Chris' thread, especially since they were aimed at a 15 year old.
And for the record, I am always careful about what I say here.

I just took another look at my PM - looks like I dropped a word and didn't catch it (I knew what I meant)...I can see where it would be interpreted that you were having YOUR conversation with the 15yo. But that doesn't change the bulk of what I said

Again - your "pretty inappropriate" comment is vague enough as to cast an aspersion on me that I take very seriously.

My comments may have been "inappropriate" in your eyes, but none of my comments were graphic or of a sexual nature. As for intervening - you were there as well, and I am not in the chat room to moderate.

I have no intention of allowing you to cast me in the light in which you are attempting to.

You disagree with me, so you have chosen to make a personal attack on me and characterize my comments in chat as inappropriate - when in fact they were nothing more than my VERY STRONG opinion.

Scott, I am not making an attack on you, nor do I particularly disagree with you. My point is, quite simply that if you are so upset that Chris' thread was a) posted, and b) allowed to remain, one would think that you would be just as upset about the things being said in chat last night considering that there was a minor present. While you were pretty much just spouting off, your language (and some of your comments), though not sexually oriented, was not appropriate to the circumstance - it's called being aware of your audience.

As for my presence - I logged in, walked out of the room to feed my baby Savus, came back in, scrolled through the posted messages, and left. (Also, I am not the one who is making noise about the content of the FWB thread)

I think the assumption here is that I've never said anything.

You are relying on one chat session to draw a conclusion.

I don't condone much of the conversation that goes on in chat, but again, I am only one person.

I've said and posted this point a couple times but I feel it needs to be reiterated - I have no problem with people being able to express themselves or their opinions/beliefs. Nor do I have an issue with Chris' particular personal inclinations as long as he isn't huritng anyone and its among consenting adults. It may not be my cup of tea and I may not believe it to be consistent with my own values - it is not my position to judge him or impose my values upon him. I look at it this way - my actions are my own and only G_d shall judge me.

And it wasn't only Chris' post, which I didn't find offensive as much as out of place. The "Shoot your Load" thread in photography is offensive and in my opinion doesn't belong anywhere on this site.

I certainly do not travel into the Lonely Hearts Forum, I have no need to be there and I really do not participate in such discussions. I have seen some of the topics before but really I have not much of an opinion on it. I personally know a few people along with those in my own family that have found a spouse through chat rooms and internet dating services. If the site is a place for people to meet on more of a personal level and they share the love of reptiles, then I do not see it as all that bad.

I certainly agree that the title of the thread in the photography forum was not appropriate. I have used that forum when looking for ideas on new cameras and even photography tips. That title is a bit too much. Though being my own personal opinion and those that know me understand know where I am coming from.

Now Scott, I do spend time in the chat room. When things go too far I usually leave, sometimes I stick around but do not engage in what is being said. This statement from you is a bit of a surprise. You are one person that brings a lot into chat and even the one who starts much of the conversations which I do not condone that I see are out of hand. If the chat logs were pulled up it would be quite obvious that I am not being lite on this. I have seen what you have posted, you have even led others to follow your example. You cannot not condone what you start.

This does not mean I do not enjoy being there, I also am not one that is easily offended, so I can look away and go feed an animal. I have sat and read a lot that was discussed between you and another member about animals and reptile equipment, you have a lot of knowledge that I am please to say I have learned from you. Even the days when laughter was about all I can do, instead of type, as funny stories were told between all of us. Those are some great times that make the chat room what it is.

You conveniently left out the fact that in most, if not all of those situations the chat room was private and required a password.

Conveniently, no. You are right about the password needed room. Though when was the last time that was used? I have seen(and participated) the same stuff in both private rooms and public rooms.

I'm the one that started using the password protected rooms to keep the youngins at bay.

I haven't been in chat much lately in general, so I have to believe that, again, most of the conversations you are referring to were private - at least on my part.

I can't control what other members say - and yes, I do think that they should use the private room feature.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the direction of one or two forums, and in particular one or two lone threads, does not lead this entire site by the nose. To even suggest such a thing defies rationality. Actually no one here even has to go into that forum or read any particular thread unless they specifically choose to do so. So exercise your own free will to move on to somewhere else other then THAT thread,or THAT forum. Threads do not open themselves up and tackle you as a reader. YOU have to specifically click on it to open it up and read it. So if you see the title of some thread that looks like it may contain something offensive to you, please don't let it twist your arm or wrestle you to the ground in order to make you read it. Resist it, as impossible as that may seem to do.

But that being said, I did make a concession in that I have changed the permissions for that forum so that only registered members can even see the Lonely Hearts forum, much less read anything in it. I have the registration (and have for a long time) set to refuse to allow registration of anyone 13 years old or younger. But if "little Johnnie" lies in order to get registered and then can read that forum, then that's just the breaks. There is no way to verify that information. I have no intention of trying to rubber baby buggy bumpering this site to try to please everyone's opinion of every thing they can think to complain about. So as for those children within the tender years of 14 thru 17, well I don't know what your children are like at that age, but when I was that age, I doubt anything being talked about in any forum here would have gotten my hormones torqued up much. And I do believe that things are considerable different now then they were back in those days.

As for the threads and forums in question, I gave the moderators of those forums the authority and discretion to treat posts within them as they see fit.

Oh, and please note that the way this system is designed, if you report a post, that report ONLY goes to the moderator(s) of that forum. No where else and to no one else. This is known as "division of labor", and quite frankly, I prefer it that way. I don't want to have to micro manage every aspect of this site. So I delegate whatever I can.
Well several things. I'm just quoting you Rich since it was a great post and I agree with what you said. Particularly about kids these days and how were different. I'm 15, I'm a guy, I have a computer with internet in my own room, and I guess you can fill in the rest. I read both and I'm honestly not all that bothered by that. I hear and see worst things at school alone. However I do have an idea if it really botheres everyone, and Rich I don't know if you've thought of this, but, how about doing the same thing to "those forums" as you did with HELL. That way if someone really really needs to get in they need a credit card and with that comes the whole 18 years of age thing. Personally, I think that first thread that coyote linked to was perfectly acceptable. I mean, thats what the lonely hearts forum is for. I havent visited much more than the BOI and Leo section of these forums, no real need. I don't think alot of people visit every thread. If someone only has leos and has no real interest in Ball Pythons I find it hard to believe they'll go to that forum. In fact I wasn't even aware that the lonely hearts forum was there until this specific thread in particular was pointed out to me. Seeing that post doesn't make me think any less of the person that posted it. And the same goes for Rich and fauna as a whole. That person posted that out of their choice within the correct boundaries set by the mods for that forum. So in effect theyre not really in the wrong are they. As Rich said, you dont absolutely have to open the topic do you. If you just absolutely do have to see what its all about though, and it offends you but happens to follow the guidelines set forth by the mods, whats the point of letting the person know how wrong you think it is. And to point to that first link, the guy even said if its going to offend you stop reading. It was a very clear, very obvious, and straightforward warning. Yet people still felt the urge to give him hell. Dont reply to it and don't take part in it. Its not really that hard to do. If someone irritates you and every post they make gets under your skin, go to your User CP and put them on ignore. It takes but a few clicks. I've said everything I wanted to for the most part. Have a nice night.

Yeh, and at 15 so had I. Didnt i say this in the original thread LoL. Thanks for verifying that info for me Tom :)

I couldnt agree more Tom, in fact here's a quote from me in the original post.

I honestly dont think a minor paid subscription price would be such a bad thing anyways. If minors are NOT allowed to post, then why should they be allowed to read. If made to pay 5 or 10 for a year, how many parents do you know that will say "Ok Jimmy, you can use my paypal account to buy access to a dating forum for people over 18"

Hmm, all you flamers wanting to put me down for my lifestyle saying it was inappropriate to children. Now look what you've done, you've directed children TO THE THREAD YOU HATE SO MUCH. Such intelligent people we have on these boards.

I hate to say it Tom, but we have alot of people on here who have no life, no common sense or decency to keep there noses out of everyone's business. Common sense and Decency would've been reading the warning in my thread and minding there own business. Heck even RICH said they should've ignored it. You will see how quite a few people on here are Vultures. Having nothing better to do but sit at there computer and find posts to attack all day.

If a 15 yr old could read it and understand it, whats that say about the comprehension abilities of some other's around here.

Tom, for a 15 yr old guy, that is one seriously GREAT post!!!

Thanx

Haha, thanks Chris, Michelle and Harold. I've yet to meet the vultures of fauna picking up the remains of my herps, but I do know of one less than friendly individual on the leo board that will give 2 cents when it aint really necessary.

Hey Chris- For the record, I have a life, although it sucks bigtime right now, I do have one. I have plenty of common sense and decency too. I am not a vulture and try to be kind to everyone. You can go back and read what I posted in your thread and I was never unkind to you, and I wasn't attacking you. I thought it was ok on Fauna to express our opinions and feelings on things posted here on this site? Every word I posted in your thread I meant; it's how I feel about it and I take nothing back. Just because I say what I feel and I am not afraid to say it, and above all because I am comfortable with people knowing how I feel, doesn't make me a vulture or some post flaming, unintelligent person.

You are indeed a kind, and loving, and good person Kelli. Although maybe we don't see eye to eye on exactly everything, I read and think about whatever you post.
