In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Inquiry is usark scamming the reptile industry

i have a problem with this namely that its someone elses responsibility to protect people from themselves. if someone buys a cobra and dosnt have a clue about it why should anybody but the individual that bought it be held responsible. no one put a gun to their head and said by a cobra. its of their on volition to make a bad decision. if their buying a cobra they at least know it can kill them and that is enough information for someone to make an educated decision. its that nanny state idealism that thinks the government needs to step in and protect individuals from their own stupidity, when you have that society as a whole will continue to lose more and more of their rights in the name public safety.

keep in mind the only way a person is going to be qualified to keep and handle venomous reptiles is through experience.

Ok i really disagree with you here. I DO NOT think people should be able to buy venomous reptiles I.E. Cobras without a permit of some sort. This may not be the best example but here goes. I am an avid biker. I ride a 2003 Suzuki Hayabusa. Now mind you I have been riding off and on since I was 5 y.o. If I was a motorcycle salesperson and a guy came into the shop wanting to buy a Hayabusa and did not have any riding experience I'm sorry but i would not sell him/her the bike. Why you may ask. Simple I would not want to feel responsible for that persons death. Same with big constrictors or anything else in life you have to crawl before you can walk. Unfortunately a lot of people like to dive into things head first and that tends to be dangerous. Now with that being said I will say this. Rodney you seem to not know your butt from a whole in the ground. It seems USARK has done more than you could ever think about doing for our hobby. You obviously have it out for USARK so do us all a favor and go stick your head back in the sand. #thatisall

And on to the nanny state.
The ONLY reason for some of these proposed rules is as an alternative to an outright ban.

The very concept of being restricted from buying a motorcycle because of possible dangers is to me a very slippery slope. What next? Will I have to have a permit for a new toaster because of the possible dangers of electricity?

The reptile bans loom and USARKS proposals may very well allow reptile keepers to keep their reptiles. To me, that is not investing in the nanny concept, that is staving off a complete ban.

Ok first of all it was used as an example. Second I said I would not sell the bike because I have personally seen people get the big bikes and being beginners they get killed. Now with that said back on topic. I do not agree with banning reptiles of any kind but I can agree with having to have a permit to deal with HOT reptiles of any kind. If someone wants to deal with hots it is their choice and I feel their right to do so but certain measures need to be taken. You have to take a driving test to get a license and in some places you have to take classes before you can get said drivers license. So why is it a bad thing for someone to have to get a permit and know how to care for and handle HOTS before they are aloud to keep them. And I also agree with what USARK is doing I think they help out the herp hobby and I appreciate what they do to help us be able to keep our animals.

I think what you are saying about hots is reasonable.

Rodney,

Are you happy now? http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/01/16/2592593/us-set-to-approve-python-ban.html

Not enough people backed USARK to stop this from happening. Your timing for this thread was impeccable. The perfect time to attack USARK was when we were on the brink of losing our stance in this hobby. I am not saying that this thread caused us to lose at all but I am sure that some people refused to sign the petition because of this thread.

Andrew was not against constrictor ownership. Andrew was for proposing an alternative to an outright ban. Well, since we could not convince our government to consider an alternative, our pythons and boa's are lost in the Lacey Act now.

I would much rather had the alternative. :(

:(Why do you think they targeted us in the first place? All you have to do is look at this thread for the answer. Guys who would rather start a pissing contest to make a buck than put their egos aside ban together and fight as a collective hobby. Do you really think they are going to stop there??? They are going to pick us off a few species at a time until we are nolonger alowed to exist, and then they will move on to the next group. That's why I chose to be involved even before I owned boas. I honestly don't feel that ownership of any reptile is going to be safe from attack. Call me overly dramatic, but I have a really bad feeling we are facing the end of the reptile industry as we know it...

I'm very sorry I called OP a troll. I hope no feelings were hurt.

I take it a step beyond....I think the OP is setting himself up to be the most hated person in the whole reptile industry. He is proving to be very dangerous, at the very least.

there are many other way more hated people in this hobby/"industry" than rondey is or will be.
all we can hope for, is that usark are legit and truly care about this hobby and the animals (as well as us keepers/breeders) and not in it solely for the money and such

Oh, I am sure there are more hated people in this hobby. But I think Rodney is trying pretty darn hard to achieve that status.

yeah go usark. you see who well compromise works. we only lost 4 snakes today but trust me there are more to come.

I'm completely convinced if it WASN'T for USARK, we WOULD have lost all 9.

How DARE you make a statement like this in the wake of all this?

What did YOU, personally, do to prevent the loss of any? How did YOU keep us from losing more? At least they did SOMETHING.

Rodney, that's the most pathetic and conniving statement I have ever seen on this forum. Honestly man, just go away. I made a donation to USARK this morning and urge others to do the same. We have lost a battle, let's not lose the war due to not fighting it.

Chris

I wouldn't count out USARK just yet. In their statement they demonstrated that other rulings of the USF&W have been over turned by the courts due to illegitimate science. A law suite could tie this mess up for a while.

:iagree: the fight is far from over on either front.
