In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I recently paid Jason Thurber of Jason Thurber exotics $200 for 2-2007 baby alligators to be shipped to my work. The alligators never arrived and he refuses to contact me by email and phone. I have no email correspondence between us, other than him sending his paypal addy, because the whole transaction was taken care of by phone. All I have for evidence is the paypal transaction email and my formal claim email from paypal. I also filed a claim with www.ic3.com and kingsnake. Hopefully, this will take care of scum like this. I use these alligators to do educational shows for kids and small town midwest festivals to show the importance of reptiles in nature. Then I just resell them for what I paid plus shipping. I can live without the $200 but it ticks me off that he would take that opportunity from less than fortunate kids in dirt poor towns. Thanks for time and please be wary of transactions with this man. Here is the url of his ad on kingsnake. He is also trying to sell a trio of mojave ball pythons. Thanks Jason Kirtley of Raccoon River Reptiles.

Well, after 10 years of running a USDA licensed facility and, literally, working with 1000's of animals and probably as many people, this was bound to happen, I suppose.
I remember asking Bob Clark several years ago how he dealt with such publicity (incase an incident like this should arise) and he replied with a smile and said "I just ignore those boards" (by the way, I would like to thank Chris Pearson for forwarding me the link to this post).
It is difficult though to read such a post and not reply though. I guess it is harder for me to control my ego than it is for Bob.
Anyway, I was contacted by Mr. Kirtley less than a week ago, via telephone.
He wanted to place an order and I obviously should have listened to my instincts. While he claims to hold a USDA license as an educator to 'young children', he acts like nothing shy of a young child (several phone calls in the same day, lots of basic questions,...if you've been working with, breeding, and selling animals for any amount of time, you're familiar).
Aside from my 9 year old niece being hospitalized, we lost our internet service due to a corporate boo-boo on att+t's part, I believe the same day that we received his payment, and he was made aware of this, as I called to let him know that he need not panic if he ended up with any returned e-mails. I told him that our service would not be restored until Fri. night, which it was not, and that we would have to bump the shipping date to either Tues. or Thurs. of next week, as we require an e-mail from our customers stating that they will be available to sign for an order before shipping. This is to safeguard us from any claims that could be made by people stating that they weren't expecting to receive the order. Without our internet service, we would not have been able to receive his e-mail and this was all explained to him.
I don't succumb to threats and Mr. Kirtley, even though he has left several of them on my voicemail, will receive his order this week, but we will never, nor would we suggest anyone else, do business with him again.
Mr. Kirtley,..... I am truly sorry that I was too ill on Fri. to answer your calls (my wife renewed the ads on kingsnake). I would have loved to have had the opportunity to retort to some of the things that you said in the messages that you left on our voicemail and still would.
However, since you have filed a claim through paypal, I believe, unless we meet in person, that we will, with the exception of an e-mail that will provide you with your tracking information, do all of our communicating through Paypal.
I can tell you right now though that you will receive your first and last order from us on either Wed., July 2, '08 or Fri., July 4, '08.

With all due respect, Jason, you might want to shoot for Wed, July 2, because Friday, July 4 is....well....its the 4th of July (big holiday)

I personally don't care if he gets it Wed, July 2, or two weeks from then...but you said it would be one of those two dates ;)

I left no threats. I stated that I had contacted paypal and kingsnake and all you had to do is answer your phone. I do hold a Class A USDA license and I do use them for educational shows, one of which I have this weekend. When you called wednesday to push back the ship date, I asked you to refund my money which you promptly agreed to ship Thursday for Friday. You also told me your internet would be back on Thursday so it would be ok. All I did was state the facts of our conversation yet I have no way to prove it because it was all by phone. I feel no ill will tolds you, just wanted those babies before my program this weekend which you promised me you could. Just answer your phone tell me what's going on, that's all you had to do. Jason Kirtley, when was this order placed? Are we really talking about just a week ago?

Jason K.,

It would be nice to let Jason T. know through this thread if you are available to receive the package on 7/2.

Best!

Dan G.

I will be available to receive them on 7/2 at my home address.

I would really like confirmation on whether or not they are coming for sure so I can know whether or not I need to order from someone else. I am making up the show schedule Sunday for the 4th and would like to know whether or not to include them in the lineup. Jason Kirtley

I don't know much about alligators, but I personally wouldn't take delivery on a snake and then put it up for "touch and tell" less than two days later, IMHO.

I'm with you; I guess a "Class A USDA license" doesn't have any requirements regarding quarantine of new animals, but common sense would dictate that you at least let the animal settle in and observe their health and general well being after being shipped across country before subjecting them to more stress...

So...you have an exhibitor license (which is only needed if mammals are also being displayed - it is not required for reptiles). You need a DAP for the alligator (state not federal permit).
Also, inspections and reporting of ALL new/sold/traded animals are required.
Have you even notified them of the new arrivals and had your facility inspected?
Why such a rush?
Do the show with animals that have been proven to be able to handle the demonstrations. You will have NO idea after arriving 2 days prior of these gators are presentation animals or not.

Jason:

I find it ironic that you are upset that someone is now not answering your emails about a deal you initiated. Karma?

It seems like you are not really being true to the ideas you purport to put forth in your shows. Reptiles ARE important in nature. When one takes them into captivity, one owes them at least, the attempt to give them as best a situation as possible.

Here, you planned to get these little critters in, subject them to the stress of being put into in a show a couple days later, and then you say you turn around and resell them.
How is that, establishing their importance in nature?

^Maybe questions like all of these are ones that the seller should have asked before entering into a business deal with the OP. I don't think there's any reason to bother the guy about it now---unless you ask the seller these same ethical questions.

Especially cuz the seller accepted the money without any problems.

The seller is making a business deal. The buyer is trying to pull on the heart strings of the folks here with poor kid from dirt poor towns and the importance of reptiles in nature (which he will put on display without knowing if they're healthy after they just travel accross the country a day or two prior and then sell again).

Seriously, Jason K., don't they have a "rent-a-gator" or something near you? This does not look like you have the animals' best interests in mind.
