    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Jason (Jtrott) and I built a rack unit today for his ball pythons that holds 48 6qt. sterilites. Took about 3 hours total. It came out really nice. The back has not been put on yet, but that will take about 15 minutes to do. And he is adding heat to the back after it is installed useing heat cable. The whole thing cost about $130(heat cable not included) including the sterilite tubs. We took our time and made sure it was all nice and square. We are going to do one that holds 12qt. tubs or 24qt.'s sideways later this week. It does need to have the little strips ironed on the bare edges to make it looked more finished, but that is women's work! .
Oh yea, I am the one sitting on the ground. Having been a carpenter for 20 years does come in handy sometimes.

Nice rack man. I'm gonna build one for my sand boas as they're starting to take over my snake room.

Do you ever wonder if Sterilite knows exactly how many of these tubs are being used for snakes alone, not to mention mice, rats, guinea pigs, turtles, etc., etc., etc.?

Another question, what does one do with the lids to the tubs?

Karen

I bet sterilite knows and loves that we use thousands upon thousands of their products for our herps. And they just make more. As for the lids, we jsut don't buy them.

The iron-on melamine strips are junk... They don't stick very well at all, and chip off anywhere you can catch an edge. If you want it to look decent, just paint it. Or get the t-strips that are designed to press into a groove.

Thanks, I am a "real" wood person and seldom use melamine. Personally I would use a peice of angle trim and paint that for a really nice finish around the outer edges and a wood strip on the shelves. But alas this is not my rack so I don't have much say about how it is finished. He will probably just end up painting it though. I do agree that paint is probably the easiest way to go.

I totally understand and agree. Melamine does have it's advantages... But I still see it as a temporary construction medium. Anything I've ever built out of melamine has served as a "get me by" cage. The iron-on edging has been a bigger pain than anything, and I now prefer an unfinished edge over the peeling, cracking, ugly edging.
