In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

On April 22, 2014 I purchased a Harlequin-like female from Jen Harrison. She had an ad on FB reptile classifieds ball pythons page. She said she had a family emergency & needed money.
First red flag I ignored was, she didn't take Paypal but used Square or Money order. Square has no customer service Dept. so no protection for buyers, as I found out.

I said no hurry for shipping & then she picked a day. No snake arrived. I had to write her to see why it wasn't sent. She was busy & never shipped it. Jen then picked another day. Again no snake & no notice it wasn't coming. When I eventually got a reply from her on FB, I don't have her e-mail, her cat needed emergency treatment. At this point I feel I'm being taken & I say, send me my money back. She said no later than 6/1 is when she get's paid. Nothing was sent. No answer to my Face Book messages to her. I even said she could send it in 2 payments. Now, this morning, she says she has no money until she sells the snakes, she is now posting on there today.
Knowing I wouldn't receive my money back, I told her this morning to send me the snake. She says she has no money to ship it.
I have all these conversations from the FB messages.
I've been in this hobby for 14 years & this is the first I've had to report someone. I just don't want others to get scammed.

Square is just a merchant processor. If you paid by a credit card via Square you can open a claim for a chargeback with your CC company, not Square.

Payment processed, you should get an e-mail any second.

I need to order shipping supplies, but I can ship M-W as long as the night low at both locations is over 40.

No rush on the shipping. She's safe with you!

I just shipped out 5 tonight.

May 5th, 2:02pm

Hi Jen. Do you know when you can ship the Harly girl to me? thanks!

May 5th, 5:17pm

Would Wednesday for Thursday work?

May 5th, 8:18pm

Thur. morning is good, I'll be home.

May 8th, 10:18am

Hi Jen. Did you ship her? It is almost 10:30 & she isn't here.

May 9th, 2:26pm

Can you please update me on when she will be shipped? If not then I would like a refund. I have appointments this Tues & Wed. mornings, so those days are not good.

May 9th, 7:41pm

That's weird, I sent a message yesterday? My cat required emergency surgery Wednesday which is why I wasn't able to ship. I can get her out next week.

May 9th, 10:49pm

Sounds good. Thur. morning is the only day this week that I'll be home. I hope your cat has a speedy recovery!

She's doing well, lots of antibiotics and pain meds. Thursday will be fine. I will email the tracking number Wednesday.

May 15th, 11:05am

Thur. morning & no snake again. At this point, I'd like my money back. No communication as to why she won't be shipped.

May 15th, 9:35pm

Wow. OK.

Unfortunately my life is a lot more complicated than most people and I have responsibilities that take precedence -- such as my 8-year-old daughter. I will refund your money next week.

May 24th, 1:21am

It is next week. When can I expect my $225 refund? My address is: You can send a check or M.O. Thank you.

May 27th, 8:54am

I raised a daughter on my own also. She is 28 now & just got her Master's. Children & pet emergency's come first. But you should let a customer know about delays. I was waiting for the Fed Ex guy on 2 occasions. Please let me know how & when you will handle my refund. I am retired & $225 is a lot of money to me. If I don't hear from you I'll have to take this further.

May 27th, 1:57pm

I am a disabled vet, single mom, and full-time student -- my income is fixed and deposited once a month, unless I sell a snake. I understand that $225 is a lot of money on a fixed income, I truly do. I did not expect delays in shipping, a life and death emergency with my cat that sucked down literally the only money I had, sudden needs of my daughter (who lives an hour away with my parents while I am in school), nor uncooperative weather for the first 10-14 days. It has been a hell of a month and is still not over. I apologize that this transaction did not work out. By chance that you don't remember, the only reason this animal and the others were up for sale were due to a family emergency and my need to bail my parents out of a $1600 hole or deal with them (and subsequently my daughter) being homeless. Their lease was up and they expected to re-sign for their 5th year, but the new owner that purchased the duplexes a month prior decided all of his properties were going to now be pet-free and luxury housing, thus raising rent by $400. My mother is terminal and my father is their only income as the head of maintenance of a hotel. The moment this snake sold, the money went to their landlord to buy more time for them to find a new place. I had a message from you stating "no rush on shipping, she's safe here", thus I didn't expect waiting a bit to be an issue. I had also said I would send you the tracking number the night beforehand when she went out, and in the absence of a tracking number being provided, I didn't believe you would be expecting delivery anyway and standing by for the FedEx driver. I was an hour from home dealing with my daughter's psychological meltdown over being scared of her grandparents being homeless and having to leave her class/teacher, so I didn't remember to check in with you until the next day.

This has been an unfortunate stressful month and is not indicative of how I have done business with customers over the last 10 years. I had expected a check from school this past week that has not come; as such I will need to wait until I get my disability and housing allowance on the 30th/31st to send your refund. Unless something else sells sooner or my tuition reimbursement check shows up. Either way, the latest it will go out is Saturday the 31st. My income is deposited the 1st of each month, but being that the 1st falls on a Sunday, it will come in on the 30th/31st. I will be including a $25 delay fee to reimburse you for your wasted time and energy, for a total of $250. It will have to be a mailed money order, and will be sent Priority with Signature Confirmation. I will check in on Friday to let you know if my deposits came in yet, or sooner if I get my school check sometime this week. Once I have it, you will receive the confirmation number.

Again, I sincerely apologize.

I don't want any extra money, just the $225 that I sent. When will that go out? My address is:

This next conversation is from this morning, 6/10 when I saw her ad selling snakes again.

If you don't have all the money, you can break it up into 2 payments. If I don't hear how you will settle this, I'll have to post to Fauna's BOI.

I see you are selling another snake on FB. I guess you'll see my messages now.

I have seen them and replied.

I said you could break the payments up, di not recieve an answer.

I have nothing to send you until these sell. As I already explained, every penny has gone to my parents. I am on a fixed income, so I can't just work more and increase my income. I have exactly $20 to my name ATM. Every penny I got on the 1st went to rent, food, gas, shipping 2 snakes out, and my daughter's needs. Now I have to sell damn near everything I have in order to come up with $1800 to move to a new place. I will send what I can.

Do you still have the Harlequin?

Yup. She's listed.

We can try one more time on the shipping. And please ship when you say or let me know ahead that she didn't go out.

No money for shipping. If you would have told me you still wanted her 2 weeks ago, she would have been able to go out with the other 2.

If something sells, then I will send her out.

What an extremely frustrating situation for you Beth. Sorry you're having to deal with this. It appears as if you have been extremely patient and it is ridiculous that the seller continues to string you along with empty promises and equally ridiculous that she spent the money you gave her for shipping on your snake and now claims that she can't afford to send it. I agree with what Melinda said. Call your credit card company immediately and file a chargeback. That is the best most efficient way to get your money back and the longer you wait, the harder it's gonna be.

Beth -- First, I'm extremely sorry that this transaction has not gone the way it should. Second, I'm sorry you feel the need to post this and label me a "bad guy", considering I have never had a dissatisfied buyer and always follow through.

As you know, I listed the snakes at the end of April to help my family out of an extremely dire situation. When you purchased the harley female, you stated no rush on shipping. Aside from needing to order shipping supplies, overnight temps here in Wisconsin were still not over 40 every night, which meant we had to wait. Yes, I arranged shipping with you twice and both times had issues -- the first being my cat ending up with pyometra (extremely rare in cats) and needing emergency surgery, which sucked down the last money I had as well as occupying my time, and the second being my daughter, who does not live with me during the week. After 2 attempts, you asked for a refund. I agreed, while explaining my financial situation and the fact that like you, I am on a fixed income that arrives once a month and is not always the full amount depending on what the VA debits my payments for -- once that income is used for the month, I have nothing else coming in. As I also explained to you, it has been a very difficult past 2 months, between my own issues as well as trying to support my family and keep a roof over their head (and in turn my daughter's head).

That said, I have NEVER denied owing you a refund, have NEVER said I would not pay it, and have NEVER ignored you or dropped contact as a scammer would. I have stayed in communication with you and continued to do what I can to resolve the situation -- to include listing the rest of my non-essentials in order to bring in funds to resolve this transaction among other necessities. I find it confusing that first you offer to accept the refund broken up into segments, then change your mind and want the snake, then post this thread and trash me on my own classified ad -- all in the same day.

Again, I apologize that is has gotten to this point -- I have dozens of previous buyers that can tell you this is far from the norm. I am doing what I can to rectify the situation as quickly as possible.

In regard to using Square, I know many other sellers who also use it, and have used it for the past 2 years for all transactions with zero problems.

Jen, you spent her shipping money without shipping her anything? There is no excuse for that. Maybe you shouldn't be selling animals if you can't afford to sit on shipping money. Even with fully believing you wouldn't scam anyone, you still lose a lot of credibility with that mistake.

I have posted the facts of our transaction. Let people decide to buy from you or not, with all the facts. I did not call you a scammer, I said beware.
That is what the BOI is for.
I can only judge by how I have been treated, not by your previous sales.

When I saw your ad this morning, selling snakes, I thought my chances of getting the $225 is slim. I then asked if you would just ship the Harly girl, for a 3rd try. You don't have the money to ship her to me either.
Where does that leave me? Would you want to be treated like this?
I feel bad over your circumstances but I entered into this in good faith.

If Square does receive a chargeback they are likely to shut down your account as well, especially if they can't recover the loss and have to eat it. Would highly recommend you find a way to get this snake shipped out tomorrow so you can put this all behind you. Best of luck sorting out your personal issues. Sometimes life just seems to throw multiple curveballs all at once, but you will get through this!

:iagree: I believe this sums it up perfectly!

hate to say it but... does sound like a run around.

I am also from wisconsin, disabled, single parent... And yes, I know life isnt nice sometimes but there is No excuse to not have the shipping money that was sent for the snake. Also, since I am in wisconsin, I know the weather can be iffy but I also know that with the right packing materials, you Can ship in April. Plus, If you dont have the shipping materials... why are you advertising you can ship?? SOOOO many excuses. I will be putting another name on the no buy from list!

There is no excuse for spending a buyers money without sending the animal in this time frame! I label people like this as CROOKS!

Jen, come on, Beth should not have to pay vet costs for your cat.

You know, you have 4 critters for sale on your site, 2 snakes (and a third that has a deposit) and a sugar glider.
After irresponsibly (and actionably) spending funds you were sent to a snake on something else, I think the least you can do is mark those critters you are selling down to half price or less for a quick sale to get the funds to resolve this mess.
If you are even dreaming of telling Beth she would have to wait until the 1st to get resolution, I suggest you wake up.
I agree with Daniel, Beth, if your purchase was backed by a credit card talk to your bank today about recovering the funds via chargeback.

So in short, (Making sure I understand correctly with the timeline)

Jen sold an animal

Agreed to ship and didn't.

Agreed to ship a second time and didn't.

States she communicate the first shipping date but the buyer didn't receive the email.

Didn't communicate the second time but states the buyer should have figured it out she wasn't shipping because she didn't send the tracking number the night before. So, it is the buyers fault for waiting on FedEx.

Agreed to send a refund the following week but didn't.

Agreed to send the funds at the first of this month but didn't.

Now tells the buyer she has to wait until the end of this month.

Jen now can't understand why the buyer is giving her multiple options just to make this right. Sending the animal or sending partial payment while letting people know what's going on after two missed deliveries, two missed dates for returning the funds.

After the two missed shipping dates Jen response with "Wow, OK"

With the request for the funds back.

Really Jen? You didn't ship twice as promised. You are surprised? The nerve of her to ask for her funds back.

Then followed with

"Unfortunately my life is a lot more complicated than most people and I have responsibilities that take precedence -- such as my 8-year-old daughter. I will refund your money next week."

Or you kidding?

Would a horrible way you handled this and your responses to the buyer just absurd.

" By chance that you don't remember, the only reason this animal and the others were up for sale were due to a family emergency and my need to bail my parents out of a $1600 hole or deal with them (and subsequently my daughter) being homeless."

Who cares why you are selling them! the only reason your selling them is because you need the funds. Not the buyers problem.

You agreed and set multiple dates and didn't follow through then act all appalled and how dare she ask for her money back.

No question who is in the wrong here.
