In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Jen Harrison- Beware

Obviously Jen did make a mistake here, in not holding on to the shipping money. She has acknowledged that she made a mistake.

I know her and consider her to be a friend. I know that she really is going through a family/financial crisis right now, and that those aren't just excuses. She is not a scammer, and she's not stringing the buyer along. She made a bad decision, and is genuinely trying to correct it. Snakes aren't selling very quickly right now, which I'm sure many people are aware of. Jen does have most of her collection up for sale though, and I'm sure she will be either refunding the buyer or shipping the snake as soon as something sells.

I completely understand the frustration the buyer is feeling. I've been in a similar situation before, waiting for a snake to be shipped out that I had already paid for. That said, it disappoints me that the Fauna crowd is always so eager for blood and drama. Jen is a truly good person, and while she did make a bad mistake, it doesn't justify her being crucified by many of the regulars here.

I don't like the feeling that someone like Jen is being driven out of the community just because she screwed up once. She has contributed a lot in the past, and is a valuable part of the reptile hobby today. I wish people would at least give her a chance to correct things before labeling her a bad guy.

Perhaps several of her friends could band together and pay the shipping and then be reimbursed?
I value what you say, Sarah, but at the same time, until we see posts from people like you who actually know the person, all we can see is that funds were misspent. Add to that the fact that sometimes good guys change (not saying that it happened here).
I did suggest and do think that if Jen discounts the price of what she is selling, it may sell sooner, and that discount might be a way for Jen to show that she wants to take care of this right away.

I've honestly been considering sending her the shipping money myself, I'm just also in the process of paying off some debts, and reluctant to put myself further in debt. If I have something sell before she does, then I will be lending her the money.

I guess I also assumed that many people on this website would be familiar with Jen and know her, since she has done a lot of outreach education about contagious disease spreading through collections and how to prevent that.

From what I have seen, Jen is listing the animals at a pretty low price, and seems motivated to sell. I think this recent experience on top of everything else has been disheartening for her, and she just wants to put it behind her as soon as possible.

I do not want Jen's name or reputation to be ruined. The only tab choices I had were good or bad guy. My title said "beware". I don't think she is a scammer.
I recognized Jen's name from seeing it, so I felt comfortable buying from her.
I said "no rush" on shipping because she had to order supplies. I didn't mean ship in 6 months.
After seeing the new ad, knowing my snake had not been shipped, I decided to let people know.
At this point my 1st choice is a refund. But seeing how money is tight & Jen doesn't have $225, I'd be willing to take the snake, to resolve this. It isn't a lot of money but just the point of the matter. I have a Fed Ex account but don't feel I should pay twice to have a snake shipped.

Most of us know what happened to Jen. It all unfolded on this site over three or four threads.

What she did wrong and right, I hope were all lessons learned. Hopefully, lessons learned by all those that followed what happen to her animals.

That really has nothing to do with her business transactions. This I believe is the first reported problem on that front.

She has the ability to make it right. I am going to assume she is. Let's hope so.

Still no doubt by any that the buyer did nothing wrong here and had justification to start a thread if she desired. I don't think it is jumping the gun after four broken promises to ship or return the funds.

I say the buyer could pay to have the snake shipped, and then when the seller has the money, could reimburse both shipping costs. If the seller does not have money for shipping, I hope she breeds her own rats so the snakes are not starving.

At this point, how do you know the money would be used to ship the animal? I know she has many friends here standing up for her, and I am not saying it wouldn't happen, but so far it's been empty promises and lies. Is this wasn't a person that is so well known here, people would be calling her a thief.

Like somebody else suggested, why don't some of her friends pony up and see that the snake gets shipped??

I don't care how many people are vouching for her; as a buyer, I would not send more money to cover shipping for which I had already paid. (Sending good money after bad, and all that...)

Beth, it has been 51 days since the purchase, according to the original post - just file with the card company for nondelivery, and have done with it.

I am not saying that you are at fault here. You're not. Jen made a mistake, and you are suffering the consequences of that. I know that she will take care of this. I hope that she is able to sell something soon so that she can send you your snake. As I said earlier, if I am able to sell something first, I will be lending her the money to do so.

continued (submitted too soon):
There is absolutely no reason for you to wait (indefinitely) for Jen to sell animals or otherwise acquire the money she owes you; it isn't as if there's any guarantee it will happen in a timely manner.

File with your card company to get a refund, be done, move on, take your $ else where. Paying (again) for shipping is ridiculous. She should have put the shipping $ aside to you know, ship your paid for snake. Unbelievable.

I wanted that to be clarified. Thanks Sarah...

Well in that case,

Why is it every time someone gets them self in situations like this, which I have read a few on this forum, they pull out the " Retired Vet " card?! They use it like it's a sympathy card that you purchase from Hallmark. The way it's used is just disrespectful to those who served and to those who've fallen. It seems to be more of a heart tugger nowadays since 9/11.

I personally take it as a insult! For the way it is used in these situations. I, myself am a retired Vet ( Infantry) , I proudly served my Country, and I also was US Army. I still believe in the Soldiers Creed.
I have never used that to any advantage, good or bad. I don't use any of the perks that come from serving in the Military. I vaguely talk about it, since it was a duty, not a voucher, get out jail for free card, or what ever you want to call it.

I can clearly read between the lines for how that small statement was used. I don't see any real use for stating it in this particular situation Jen got herself into, unless you want sympathy to by your self time!

If you feel like taking the option, Jen, I am two and a half hours away from you. I would be happy to meet you half way to pick up the snake and ship it to your buyer, as I have some spare packing boxes and materials right now. Then when you have money you could reimburse me for the shipping.

This is pretty much what I posted on the rant section. Too many people playing the Vet card game like it is a get out of jail free card.

Wouldn't mind seeing a vet bill for the cat's "emergency surgery".

While being up front and saying yes, Jen is a friend of mine, I did see her posting about her cat's emergency vet issues (and having to suddenly move) on her personal FB quite a while before this thread came up.

That's either psychopathic levels of premeditated cover story, or the truth, and I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt that it's the latter.

That's a really awesome offer of you!

I'm back in Madison and as long as Jen still is I'd like to propose the following:

I am willing to ship the snake through my own verified FedEx account at my expense provided that:

1) Jen, Beth and myself can agree on a date when the weather and our schedules cooperate. (I'm usually pretty flexible during the evenings) The snake must ship out on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday though via Priority Overnight.
2) The snake is not to be boxed up before I pick it up. I will photograph the snake before the box is taped shut, and Jen will sign the tape over my pre-printed label as well as the tape across the bottom of the box to verify that the correct snake is indeed in the box. Therefore, Beth will know that the box had not been opened after Jen completed packing it up.
3) All parties agree that I am not to be held liable for the snake's well being once it is scanned at the FedEx location near the Dane Co. airport (they have a really late express drop off time). While I will do anything in my power to protect the snake's well being, I just want to make it clear that I'm only responsible for it while it is in my physical possession during transportation between Jen and the FedEx center.
4) Jen and Beth will both get the creation, tendered, exception (if any) and delivery notification emails via FedEx, so there shouldn't be any surprises as far as whether or not the snake did ship out, where it's at, or when it is delivered.
5) I don't know if Jen has the necessary, suitable shipping box and supplies, nor do I know how large the snake is. I won't put an animal in a box that I don't approve of, so Jen would have to let me know if she has that covered.
6) My address, phone number and other contact information does not get publicly posted here, facebook, etc. Please. I will change the 'shipper' information on the FedEx label to Jen's current address, and her and Beth can decide what they choose to make public.

This is a one-time offer because I'm in a good mood and feeling generous.
...and I actually kind of miss shipping reptiles.

BTW, thank you WebSlave for helping me get logged back into my account.

Hello Paul & thank you so much for your more than generous offer.
Jen has PM'd me a photo of a Western Union Money Order, made out to me, for a full refund.
As soon as I recieve it I will post here that the matter has been resolved.
Also, thanks to Julie who offered to drive 1/2 way, pick up the snake & ship her.
I'm sure this will be put to rest very soon.
Beth Evans
