Bad Guy Jenn Black/Shaky Tail Exotics : Breach of Terms of Services/Fradulent Chargebacks

I know a little something about geckos and I do not agree at all with not feeding insects. However it is extremely common practice to feed only commercial diets. And I am sure these are things that should have been discussed prior to purchase if it was a valid concern. If someone is so opposed to that husbandry protocol that it would cause them to back out of a sale that it seems important enough to ask prior to purchase. It is really not significant enough to warrant the sudden refusal to accept the animals. There is another reason for backing out. In fact it is so common that the whole point of the commercial diets being invented was to completely eliminate the need to use insects. I strongly disagree with this practice for many reasons. But even then it wouldn't stop me from buying someone's animal.and like I said if it's a big enough deal to someone who is not completely ignorant , like this buyer than you would ask upfront. Because no one buying cresteds would be shocked to find the breeder doesn't feed bugs. There is another reason for backing out in my opinion and this is a convenient excuse.

Hello everyone an update to this BOI - sorry for the lack of responses before I don't frequent Fauna with any regularity usually!

Jenn Blake did cancel her chargeback, pick a replacement animal, has received her gecko, and has stated that she is happy with the resolution. So the situation at hand has been resolved.

In regards to questions about why I started a BOI on Jenn, I only started a BOI on Jenn AFTER she posted a Bad Guy BOI on me and I felt the need to have my side of the story also heard if someone were to search for her name. I do wish we had been able to avoid the BOI but as seen in the attached screenshots, Jenn thought that the BOI threads were deleteable and perhaps this is why she posted a bad guy thread on me first.

Regarding care practices with cresteds, like someone else in the thread has mentioned currently there is a WIDE variety of diets and diet schedules being offered to cresteds. At least 5 commercially formulated diets are widely used, insect only diets exist, some people feed homemade diets, etc. and personally I've never had an issue with switching geckos fed completely different diets to the one I use. Personally, my animals have always done fine without the use of additional insects. I'm all for people feeding their cresteds however works for them and grows their animals at a healthy rate. A large part of what seems to be overlooked, though I think someone in the thread brought it up, is that weather has a huge impact on the growthrates of these animals. I held this gecko over the cold Wisconsin winter during which period none of my animals gained weight at a fast pace, now that it has warmed up for spring/summer the gecko ( Blondie ) is already up to 20g in weight and I fully expect him to be at breedable/adult size by Fall when he would be 2 years old. 2 years to grow to adult size is, in my understanding, a pretty normal timeframe for crested geckos to mature at. I have also amended my Terms of Service to include that my animals are fed on a staple of Pangea Fruit Mix Complete.

Last of the screenshots here - so Jenn has accepted a younger sibling to the gecko she originally purchased and has stated she's now happy with the transaction. I hope that in the future she will ask breeders about their feeding schedules if that is an extremely important point to her. And again, the only reason a "big deal" was made about this in the BOI was that the customer first posted a bad guy BOI on me.

One last post for the non-crested crowd as I do forget that crested husbandry isn't inherent knowledge to readers of the BOI - like Aimee has pointed out the practice of feeding bugs vs. diet is not black and white. Some people feed bugs, some people don't - crested feeding is much more of a grey area with a significant amount of variation between breeders and with different brands of accepted commercial diets having vast differences in composition. Not feeding bugs is not an unheard of husbandry practice by any stretch of the imagination and at least one other breeder from whom Jenn has purchased from also feeds bugs rarely. In the bad guy BOI which Jenn started on me, several other breeders, those who are geographically close to me some that are from other regions of the country, do come out to confirm that the growthrates seen in my animals are not out of line with what they've experienced in winter growth and in animals not offered bugs regularly.

All of this aside - Jenn has picked a replacement animal and the transaction is now settled. This BOI was created only after she posted a bad guy boi on me - I did not open this thread when she filed the chargeback on my account.
