In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

The fact that we have people arguing for and even defending the release (ahem, excuse me...."escape") of non-native species in a public forum simply blows me mind, considering the status of current modern herpetoculture in America. The nonchalant attitude towards this sort of thing is disturbing at best and sickening at worst. I hope all of your cages are secure, regardless of what you keep. I don't want your negligence harming ecosystems or responsible keepers any more than what has already occurred. Yikes.

Actually, unless someone has proof, or has seen it first hand, nobody can say, and should not state as fact, that Jim has purposely released Chameleons.

Jim has, however, admitted to escapes. I, personally, would not trash someone's name, for that, since "tons" of people have had that accidentally happen, to them, at some point or another.

Now, if escapes are occurring, something should, most certainly, be done to prevent any further escape/s. It is irresponsible to not do something towards that prevention.

Regardless if they were escapes or releases, if he has had them happen numerous times over many years, then why the hell hasn't he fixed the problem? Theres no excuse for such continued negligence. If you know there is a problem and you don't fix it, then its just as bad as if he purposefully released them if you ask me.

David. Try reading. The "problem" had long ago been taken care of. FWC confirmed such, and gave me a clean bill of health on all that we do.

Inspections are a part of being a licensed facility in FL. They commended us on our facility, as they always have, and saw that we had managed all things well. At the end of my inspection, they told me if they heard from any of these malcontents again, that they would have to file a sworn affidavit here in Florida on such. With this, they could then be fined for making false statements.

My license is also renewed through 2017.

Thanks for the condescending suggestions, fellas but trust me, I have quite a firm grasp on reading comprehension.

As a 31 year old "kid" pursuing a Geosciences/Environmental Analysis degree I can assure you that if you are still finding non-captive Chameleons in your area, the "problem" has not been rectified. You have done the damage already, and seem unconcerned with doing anything other than making money off your blunders. Congratulations.

Being 31 does not guarantee a thing otherwise David. FWC evaluated all, unlike anything anyone reading here, even one pursuing a "Geosciences Environmental Analysis degree" can do. I do not think it requires much to separate the BS from the fact. FWC did it very quickly, btw.

I agree. The damage is done already. It's not hard to realize that you have not caught every chameleon that has escaped and is breeding in the wild. It simply was negligence in the first place that allowed anything to escape at all, no matter if the issue may or may not be fixed now. It is your responsibility to make sure enclosures are like Alcatraz if you are raising and breeding animals in an environment that they can possibly breed in naturally.

The worst part is a general refusal to admit that there was any wrongdoing.

I doubt that you read the entire thread. Regardless, I am not South Florida. I am Polk County, in Central Florida. However many escaped, they enjoyed the benefit of a couple of above average temp Winters. Our record low is 16 F. The lowest it has been in my 13+ years here is about 22F. This past Winter, we hit about 28F. Only one "wild" chameleon has been found since last September. We also made many efforts to fix things, as if nothing else, escapees are lost revenue. We are not in the business to lose animals. FWC gave us a full seal of approval. They checked us out fully. The folks that they are upset with are those that lodged the complaints. In the words of FWC, they will have to "submit sworn affidavits next time". As they can then be fined should they submit the same as they did this time.

The tragedy of it is not the ecosystem here, my property, which suffers not one iota from some escaped chameleons, just as there is no evidence of damage in South Florida, where they do survive just about always. Ask the poachers down there, who harvest veiled and Oustalet chameleons regularly. And some pardalis as well, my primary species. The disgust of it is that when we tried to have a discussion about what we learned in credible FB forums, and much was learned, that a flash mob of miscreants from the corrupt FB forum Chameleons Gone Wild bombed the threads, twice, and caused them to be deleted by good moderators who otherwise do not have the time to police and selectively delete every post. Some of those miscreants from CGW were banned as well, from the good forums, to retreat to their cesspool. At least one for calling my Mother a "hoe".

OBTW, we will be having full discussions on this in FB venues in the coming weeks. Without the riff-raff. Folks will be able to draw whatever conclusions they want. I do not care, as we are not providing what we know to gain or lose customers, but rather to inform those who enjoy the hobby, and these magnificent chameleons. The information will be put out there for folks to learn from, and there is much to learn from.

Perhaps you mean well, David Bradt, but your post indicates that you are uninformed. Take care. .
