In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy JMG Reptiles not so good..

Either way your getting upset about your not gonna win or change other people's minds about...if I ship a snake to someone and they are unhappy I will replace the animal and pay for shipping however I will not do so until I receive my animal back at the buyers expense... Stating that you paid full retail so your entitled to a replacement and Jmg pays shipping both ways seems like your asking a bit much since you never paid for shipping in the first place. I'm also pretty sure your son had a reasonable amount of time to inspect the animal prior to leaving. Even if Jeff did not disclose this info it's not like it was a ball python and the tail was hidden by it balling up it is extremely easy to tell when this is wrong with a hognose. Also a 13 year old running around a reptile show is just asking to get taken advantage of wether we like it or not reptile shows are filled with peddlers that are just trying to make a quick buck and are total dirtbags JMG Reptiles if one of the best vendors I've met I seriously doubt they were intentionally negligent To me it seems like your son made a bad uneducated purchase and you want someone else to pay for his mistake.

the snake was in a 2"x3" sandwitch container, so it was balled up.

Not being smart but do you mean deli cup?

Anyway you say the op was wrong to sell to your thirteen year old son, right? Well did you reprimand your son for buying the snake? I mean if the op was wrong your son must be also.

Yes he does, he made a mistake by not taking the snake out because he was in a rush. He has learned a valuable lesson.

I'm sure he has and up top of this it was a gift to you so I'm sure that was upsetting as well.

I think mistakes were made on both sides and their is a animal involved here. You mentioned sending a pic to the vet and that it's a health issue. Has the snake been seen in person by a vet? A vet report and bill would back up your claims that it is a health issue. Most important if it is a health issue should not the snake receive proper vet care since its in your possession? If it has actually been seen by a vet my apologies. I may have missed that somewhere.

No, not a deli cup. A rectangular sandwich container. And yes I talked to him and made sure he knew that despite his good intentions he or I should have looked at the snake first. The guy did not say there was anything wrong with it to him..

I thought I owed him an update on the animal after 10 months. She is still alive and well despite that her gland keeps getting stopped up. She just laid six eggs three weeks ago..

I was on the fence about posting this.. Are you guys reading everything? He did not show it to me until I was on the way home. 100 miles away. And i did not wait days to email him, it was Monday morning. He did not respond to me for days..( i assume he was driving back to Ohio) I have over 30 hogs in my collection and have never had one like this..

Why did you not inspect the snake before you bought it??? Why are you letting your child buy the snake without you present and doing due diligence???

I'm reading a lot of replies to this thread from people who obviously didn't read this or have never dealt with children. The snake was purchased by a 13 year old who had general if no knowledge of the animal. It is a sellers responsibility not to take advantage of anyone let alone a little kid. This seems like a seriously low down thing to do to me. I would keep the animal and just avoid ever getting anything from them again. I certainly won't buy anything from JMG in the future.

Kristi, you read my mind. I don't know how many threads on various sites I have read where a person throws a fit about an animal they purchased being unhealthy or deformed then they make a post later that they just got a clutch of eggs, an they're so excited!!!!

I just don't get it. Cull it or keep it as a pet.

I did read it. You were told the animal was fine, but you argued that it wasn't healthy. Not hard to follow.

I agree with Kristi on this. Why did you breed the snake if you didn't think it was healthy? It looks as you took Jeff Jr's advice and treated the snake as it was OK and still bred it.

Too late to the party

I would give ANYTHING to see a hog curled up in a 2"x3" sandwich container. Heck I want to see the sandwich!

JMG has provided me several nice animals over the years.

Doug Mader diagnosed your animal via a picture? BS BS BS
Isn't there a rule that says if you claim an expert said..... you have to document?

And the gravely ill animal is now a successful breeder? PLEASE

Did you read the thread??? They boys father was at the show. At any point, the father could have walked over to the table and returned the snake. The father was obviously fine with his son buying some snakes as he obviously brought him to the reptile show and gave him the money to do spend on a reptile. Did you also miss the part where they bred this supposed unhealthy snake? If they felt that strongly that the snake was unfit, why would they put it with another snake and risk the health of the male and making the situation worse for the female? Does that make sense to you???

Being a hognose breeder, I can tell you that the swollen scent glands does not negatively affect the female in any way. It is not uncomfortable for the snake and it is not life or health threatening. I have not seen it in any of the females I have produced but I have gotten females over the years from other breeders that have the "condition". They are doing just as good and thriving as well as the females without the swelling. But hey, what do I know? I just care for and breed these snakes.

And this last bit...

I would keep the animal and just avoid ever getting anything from them again. I certainly won't buy anything from JMG in the future.

By actually doing this, you would be making a huge mistake if you actually wanted quality reptiles from breeders who actually care about what they keep, breed, and sell. Their animals are healthy, represented truthfully and Jeff and Jeff jr. are really great guys to deal with and talk to.

I have to call BS on this too. Doug Mader has been writing a column in Reptiles for a long time. Many times I've read him writing that he could not diagnose an animal from a picture or description. I definitely would like to see proof of this. As others said, If this animal was so sick and defective, why did you breed it?

The original post must have been edited. When I first read this there was NO mention of the father being at the show. Nor was there any mention of breeding the snake after purchase....

I think it's far more likely that you somehow missed those details during a quick read of a 3 page thread...but my opinion could be biased by the fact that there is no editing option on the BOI.
