A fellow using the name Joe Abrams, claiming to be the owner of Carolina Colubrids and Outfitters, of Lexington, SC, has ripped us off for a total of $490.
Here's how it played out:
He called us last week, asking about some hatchlings we have for sale. After a bit of haggling, and a lot of talking, a purchase was agreed upon. He claims that because of the case of some hot snakes being sent UPS and/or FedEx, neither of these companies were willing to ship herps into or out of South Carolina (could someone verify this for me please)? He requested Delta Dash, which we agreed to even though it was such a small shipment, and Dash costs more then overnight carrier services. He used a credit card for the purchase and shipping. It checked out on our end as a good card. Several hours later, he called back and purchased two more snakes, using a different card. This one he claimed was his wifes, since his was almost maxed out from our last transaction. Once again, the card checked out fine, and we boxed up the snakes, and sent them on the way. He called me the next day, thanked us for great looking animals and great service, and said he would be calling again next week for another purchase.
Here is what has happened since then:
I got a call from a man from Columbia, SC, asking just exactly what he had charged to us on his credit card. He still had the card, but had never heard of us before. He thought that perhaps a relative had stolen the card # from his wife's purse, and would look into it on his end. Needless to say, he has filed a claim with his card company, and we will soon debited the money from our account. I called the phone # that "Joe" had provided, which was to a pet store in Lexington. Upon questioning a staff member there, it was made clear that they had no clue who this fellow was, and denied having any knowledge of him or this transaction. I was given an address by "Joe," that according to the first card holder, does not exist. Today, I got a call from the second owner of the second stolen card #, with basically the same results. This chargeback will be for $105. The first charge was for $385, which included charges for Delta Dash.
In the first contact with us, he claimed to have been making most of his wholesale purchases from Ben Seigal, on an almost biweekly basis. He claimed he liked the looks of the hatchlings we are producing, and wanted to try them out in his business. He got us good, very clean little job of scamming us.
Here's what we got on him:
Joe Abrams
1121 Harden St.
Lexington, SC 29073
The first card owner claims that three other purchases were made using his card # to other stores in South Carolina, all of them being retail pet stores, all on the same day. He also informed us that there is no Harden St. in Lexington, but there is one in Columbia.
The phone #s "Joe" used to contact us were either from a cell phone, or from a blocked #, we won't be able to establish where he called from until Monday when we get results from our phone company.
So, here's the skinny:
Joe Abrams of Carolina Colubrids and Outfitters of Lexington/Columbia, SC is a major thief and scammer. Beware of him. I am also asking at this time for a bit of help from anyone in the area that is willing to assist us in finding this person, and recovering our property or money owed. I will split any returned funds 50/50 with whoever helps us find this man and gets our property or money back. He seems to be stealing the cc #s from people, not the actual cards. He might or might not have had to use the Joe Abrams name to pick up his package from us at Delta, depending on how strict their security is or is not.
This is just a heads up to all of you hard working, honest business persons, and a request for help in stopping this guy from doing this to anyone again. Hey, with over 30 shipments a week, and this being our first theft, I guess I can't complain, but it sure does piss me off.
Thanks for reading all of this.
