Hello Everyone,
So I've had this Johnson control A419 thermostat with night time drop controlling the heat to a RHP (Pro Products 35watt) in my chondro cage for the past year with no issues. However, recently I was playing around with my setup and was unplugging it often and switching heating elements to and from it. During this same time I noticed that my RHP was no longer working and seemed to have short circuited. So I threw the RHP away and switched the Johnson control out to regulate the temp of my kane heat matt in my Sav's cage instead. Well this morning i noticed that the Johnson control was at a steady 83 degrees, eventhough i had it setup for about 95 degrees. So i plugged the kane matt to the wall outlet and to my suprise I got no power. I monitor my enclosures very closely and it was working just fine up until last night. Last night i noticed the thermostat read 93 degrees, but when i touched the matt it wasn't hot, so i increased the temp a few degrees and this morning it was not working at all.
Has anyone experienced something similiar? I have another kane matt, but I'm reluctant to connect any of my other heating elements to this thermostat, because I have lost two heating elements within a week of each using the Johnson control. Could it be possible that the thermostat is short circuiting my heating elements? Should i rewire the thermostat and is there any way to tell if this is causing damage to my heating elements?
Any feedback would be appreciated
Thanks,
