In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I purchased a female sunglow 66% het anery boa from him which I received on Thursday, July 7. I was told that she had a retained eye cap. However, upon arrival, her eye didn't look right so I took a few pictures just in case. I have been keeping her tank moist and, until recently, was gently dabbing her eye with a wet q-tip. It became more apparent as time went on that it wasn't just a retained eye cap but, since I have no previous experience with eye issues, I opened a discussion thread to make sure that I wasn't overreacting about her eye.
Instead of a retained eye cap, it looks like her eye has been punctured. I think that Joseph may have thought that she had a retained eye cap and tried to pull it off and, instead, perforated her eye, but this is just a theory.
I emailed him about the issue but he refuses to rectify the situation. Here are some pictures and emails. I have already informed him that I am posting this situation on the BOI.

No she was the only one with any kind of issue, and that's why she was only $230 she is a sunglow 66% het anery, with an eye or not she is worth $230 shipped. I told you she was 100% healthy but there is something wrong with her eye you insisted on a price drop that's what you said. Unless you plan on buying something else I'm not going to do anything for you.

You said that it was a retained eye cap, which it is not. Retained eye caps just mean that when they shed, they didn't shed the skin over the eye due to improper humidity and, therefore, it will come off with the next shed with proper humidity or can be helped off prior to the shed by moisture. But Just because you sell something at a lower price does not negate the fact that you should disclose all information beforehand. Let me know what you would like to do. Do any of her siblings have similar issues?

I told you the eye was like that and gave you a better price on the snake. you bought knowing the eye was like that. that's why she was only 230 shipped.

Hi, I just got the sunglow female from you on Thursday. I've been keeping her tank moist and gently dabbing her eye with a wet q-tip, but as time has gone on, it has become more apparent that it is not a retained eye cap. It appears that her eye has been perforated. Obviously, I wasn't planning on getting a snake with a bad eye. Please let me know what you would like to do to rectify this situation. Thanks.

Well this looks like it can be a open and shut case. The text CLEARLY says that he sold it to you with a eye cab, and in my personal opinion that eye does not look like it has a eye cap. I would like to hear from Joseph on the situation but also maybe we can get someone here to comment on the snakes eye that has experience with snakes.

also could you post a few more pics of the eye maybe from different angles to get a better look?

If he did sell it to you with the ONLY problem being the eye cap and it turns out that the snakes eye is otherwise damaged I do believe you should be entitled to I guess a refund for the snake or maybe a partial refund since I know some people do not like to accept animals back after it left their collection due to health reasons.

Definitely not a retained eye cap! Looks like the eye is gone. Poor thing!

Can either of you post e-mail conversations regarding the discussion of lowering her price, due to the "eye cap"?

I can take pics from different angles if needed. He had her listed for $265 shipped with no mention of any problems. I asked him, through text, if he would take $230, to which he made the reply in the pic. I can take more pictures of the text messages as well if necessary.

Man the more I look at that the more it disturbs me. I dont see how anyone can sell that snake as "having a retained eye cap" I really hope you see some compensation for this.

Idk if its necessary as this is pretty cut and dry but regardless I would still post everything you can just to get rid of any doubt that people may have. It will only better your situation.

I have to agree with Matt, looks like no eye at all. Seems to be an obvious misrepresentation of the animal, which I think should entitle you to a full refund for both the animal and shipping costs or at least a partial refund if you should decide you're happy with the snake as is. Did Joseph send you a close up pic of the eye before you went through with your purchase? Did you think to ask for close ups of the eye?

Also, saying he wouldn't do anything to correct the problem unless you buy something else from him is a real dirty move.

retaned eyecap? Seriously?

There is no way that is a retained eye cap. It doesn't look like an opaque scale, it looks like her eye is raw and injured. Poor thing. I wonder how long she's been like that.

I agree that this looks like a cut and dry case. I would like to hear the seller's story on this, and how long she has had this eye issue.

Kindest regards,

Amanda Rose

Poor thing.... I dontknow how he can justify that as a retained eye cap... its obvious that a portion of its eye is gone.

Id get a partial refund if not more. in the mean time be careful about feeding her live prey... no telling how that eye comprimises her sight but im sure its not the best.

Im sorry that happened to you.

Looks to me like an attempt was made to take off the "eye cap" (so many people advise newbies to take it off with "tweezers", etc...) and the eye got damaged.

Could be that there was NO eye cap, that the eye was simply shrunken from dehydration.

I have not heard back from him as of yet. She's a real sweetie (I mean, I was basically poking her injured eye with a wet q-tip and she just sat there and let me) and I feel so bad that she has had to go through this. I will be feeding her f/t and I'm hoping she sheds soon so that I can get an idea of how her injury will progress.
Robert, I'm glad you caught that! I thought that was terrible that he only offered to help me if I purchased something else. I did ask for more individual pics of her and he said that he would send some but then he didn't, so I asked again a few days later but he said that he didn't have any more pics of her. Well, I had already fallen for her based on the picture he did post (which I will post below) so I decided to get her. That is when he told me about her eye, which, since I thought he was being honest about it just being an eye cap, wasn't a big deal to me as I thought it would clear up soon enough.
Deborah, I'm glad you have the same idea as me as to the way she obtained her injury. I was hoping to figure out what happened, but I doubt the seller is going to tell me, so it's nice to get some theories.

she is beautiful but that ad he had posted containing the photo above should have also included the photo of her so called "Retained Eye Cap"

That was dishonest of him to wait until he got a reply to notify you of her eye problem, make it seem less probalamtic than it is, and on top of it all claim he didnt have any other photos... I mean he couldnt even take a second to get her out and snap more photos for you.... you made it clear you were interested.

well it is agreed across the board that is NOT a retained eye cap. i have seen bad ones where there were multiple sheds over the same eye but that is very damaged and will most likely have impaired vision in that eye. it appears that he tried to remove an eye cap and had actually taken off part of the new cap in the process. that may have caused the scabby looking appearance. another way that seems possible is a bite directly on the eye since there appears to be a diagonal cut beneath the eye cap.

it is dirty that he played down this problem further more when he stated that he told you about the problem before you received it. unfortunately this seems to be a common problem, playing down problems before purchase.

i full refund should be issued if you would like to return the snake or a partial (i'd say at least 50%) if you want to keep it. again, across the board it seems like the majority suggestion.

i am very sorry that such a beautiful snake has been harmed in such a way. however it seems that over time the appearance of the wound will go away over time, but it appears that the snake will be blind in that eye from now on.

Looking past the deception of the misleading seller about this snake. I am glad that she is out of his hands and into the hands of someone that will care for her and give her a comfortable life. Someone that will cater to her with her injury. I do hope you push and push for a partial refund. Because I am NOT a snake guy I dont know how much more of a refund you should be entitled to.

I would very much so like to see the seller pop in here and give his side and maybe see how he acts to this entire situation.

I do wish you hadn't said the bolded part. I suggest at this point a VET visit and I wish you luck getting a partial refund.
