In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Josh M Braeden. this guy is a scammer(beware)

So please keep your Selfrightous ignorant comments to yourself. Please get a life and stick to the topic at hand. QUOTE]

In my opinion if he would have not said these two sentences things would have gone another route.

I've heard that kind of stuff before, so it really doesn't have the impact it used to have.

"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you."

Joe, I been sayin' that crap for years. And if you ever heard it, it meant your ass. I never really questioned what it meant. I thought it was just a cold-blooded thing to say to a :censored: before you popped a cap in his ass. But I saw some crap this mornin' made me think twice. Now I'm thinkin': it could mean you're the evil man. And I'm the righteous man. And Mr. .45 here, he's the shepherd protecting my righteous ass in the valley of darkness. Or it could be you're the righteous man and I'm the shepherd and it's the world that's evil and selfish. I'd like that. But that crap ain't the truth. The truth is you're the weak. And I'm the tyranny of evil men. But I'm tryin, Joe. I'm tryin' real hard to be the shepherd.

Joe thanks for taking the time to explain your view. I don't see things the same way that you do, but I don't have to. I can at least see where you are coming from now.

Josh has not been here, but I did tell him I would be notifying the BOI yesterday.

Going to be interesting if he claims you collected these when you've been steadfast in your story about purchasing them.

And on this subject, you originally offered him 20 salamanders and he requested 15 more. Did you go out to collect 15 more or did you go to your dealer to purchase 15 more?

I Have 40 leaf frogs, 15 chubby frogs, and ten albino bull frogs(from mr.ed clark). does having 35 of one species mean I must have gone and collected all of them. give me a freakin break dude.

No it doesn't, but then I don't really know if leaf frogs, chubby frogs, or albino bullfrogs are native to South Carolina. However, I do know for sure that marbled salamanders are.

In any event, you claim you are not in business but then whats with purchasing those animals in large lots? Is it for a breeding project or something?

And if you're not in business, why is it so that you've offered them for sale?

I posted all email. We never talked on the phone, so he wouldnt even know. secondly, I had 50 to trade, but we worked out 35. I bought them for $3 each if its that important to you. I really dont know why this even matters in the first place. it has NOTHING to do with the deal that happened. I understand what you believe in, but all I want to do is warn people about this guy. Since your first post, you have tried to make me look like a bad guy when you dont know me and I have done nothing wrong to you or anyone else here. there are Wholesalers in FL that have hundreds of animals(alot from there own state), but that doesnt mean they must have caught them all. it just means they bought a lot from people. I bought the marbles because they only wanted $3 dollars each and I figured I could use them to sell/trade for some things that I wanted. Im sorry I committed a crime in your eyes, but in all honestly, I just wanted people to be aware of this guy. Im sorry for wasting your time.

I think this is a problem. A guy comes on here to warn the rest of us about someone who has scammed him. Very little if any attention is given to the scam, and the guy is immediately and continuously attacked.

Furthermore, he is attacked for the "raping" of native wildlife. Come on, where did your animals come from? Unless they are domesticated, at some point there population was recently drawn from the wild, and you are contributing to that simply by owning them. Don't give me some silliness about:

Well I found such and such statute online. It makes me look like I could be right; I found it online - after I attacked him; I didn't know for sure before I attacked him, but I found a way to justify my attack - afterwards. It makes me feel better. Don't dare call me on it, or I might be mean to you too.

It is bothersome to see people with sharp minds using them to harass others instead of helping the fauna community.

I agree with you 100%. It's very disturbing and shouldn't be tolerated.

Sheesh..... now that I have caught up reading this thread it makes me want to withdraw from the human race even more than I already have. Humans just plain disgust me. The more interaction I have with humans the more melancholy I feel. I am going to go play with my puppies. Their company always makes me feel pretty damn good.

This wasn't a waste of time for me at all.

Look at the things I put in bold above. There you again - trying to convince yourself you aren't a business. Maybe you think if you keep saying it it will somehow be true. You bought wholesale to sell retail. The fact of the matter is you are a business, a home based business perhaps, but you aren't operating legally. And its unfair to any legal business engaged in the same trade, unfair they have to put up with illegal competition.

So thats the business side of things.

Now, whether you collect your animals or whether you purchase them from someone else in your state legally or not, it doesn't change my opinion that its wrong. If you really don't mind to much, I'd like to see a marbled salamander in its natural environment when I get around to vacationing in your fine state. I'd like my kids and their kids to be able to see that without having to go to a zoo.

I know its not like there is going to be plaque on the bottom of the display exhibit that reads: "Here are the last two marbled salamanders in existence because Mark Thames just had to have a red tegu, but sadly it was legal back then to take and sell or trade as many as you wanted". But tell that to the Yangtze Soft-Shell Turtle or the numerous other animals that can longer be found in nature. It is completely avoidable.

And the reason I don't believe you purchased those salamanders from a supplier is because you sold an egg mass of salamanders to John at caudata that you collected. You identified them wrong, but you collected them and cited them as a species you knew to inhabit the area. So you have hunting grounds, and you know where to find what people want. Why bother buying them when it can all be profit?

I love that movie!

I agree with your moralistic sentiments and completely disagree with the way in which you've threatened a man's job, as well as Briscoe. Let it go, man, let it go! You've spent waaaay too much energy on this. Do some real education with this guy, on the side and in private and you'll have much better results, methinks.

Business, or Hobby Business?

In order to make this determination, taxpayers should consider the following factors:

*
Does the time and effort put into the activity indicate an intention to make a profit?
*
Does the taxpayer depend on income from the activity?
*
If there are losses, are they due to circumstances beyond the taxpayer’s control or did they occur in the start-up phase of the business?
*
Has the taxpayer changed methods of operation to improve profitability?
*
Does the taxpayer or his/her advisors have the knowledge needed to carry on the activity as a successful business?
*
Has the taxpayer made a profit in similar activities in the past?
*
Does the activity make a profit in some years?
*
Can the taxpayer expect to make a profit in the future from the appreciation of assets used in the activity?

The IRS presumes that an activity is carried on for profit if it makes a profit during at least three of the last five tax years, including the current year — at least two of the last seven years for activities that consist primarily of breeding, showing, training or racing horses.

If an activity is not for profit, losses from that activity may not be used to offset other income. An activity produces a loss when related expenses exceed income. The limit on not-for-profit losses applies to individuals, partnerships, estates, trusts, and S corporations. It does not apply to corporations other than S corporations.

Deductions for hobby activities are claimed as itemized deductions on Schedule A (Form 1040). These deductions must be taken in the following order and only to the extent stated in each of three categories:

*
Deductions that a taxpayer may take for personal as well as business activities, such as home mortgage interest and taxes, may be taken in full.
*
Deductions that don’t result in an adjustment to basis, such as advertising, insurance premiums and wages, may be taken next, to the extent gross income for the activity is more than the deductions from the first category.
*
Business deductions that reduce the basis of property, such as depreciation and amortization, are taken last, but only to the extent gross income for the activity is more than the deductions taken in the first two categories.

Cliff notes please...driving

I disagree. This BOI is exactly where this guy who is doing something, at least, immoral and, at most, illegal should be "harassed". I don't care how his actions were brought to light. HE got on here and posted HIS immoral/illegal actions and that makes the so-called harassment by Chuck and others both pertinent to the thread and the BOI and if the OP either gains a little perspective or is educated on why his actions drew such fire in the first place then I believe the Fauna community WILL have been served.

Has everyone (well mostly everyone) lost sight of the fact that this guy got burnt on a deal? Whether or not you agree with the items involved in the deal, he still got burnt.
