In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I just received my credit card statement today and included was almost a $1000 charge from JP pets on august 8. Mind you i have not purchased anything from JP in many months. I've heard some people relate some bad experiences concerning JP pets. Am I in for a huge hassle here? and where should i procede with this. What i don't understand is how they could have attached this charge to my card. I was under the impression these business did not keep card numbers on file, they always have asked me for my card number every time i have ordered from them in the past. Being that i've done business with them before i don't think this is just random fraud where someone has gotten my card numbers as this is a business i have a history of transactions with. Anyone have any theories on this and Has anyone ever had issues like this with JP before? Let me be clear on this i am not posting this to trash JP They have not had a suitable amount of time to rectify this yet i am just looking for some input on how this could have happened and whether or not anyone has had experience with JP pets and their customer service record.

A chargeback with your credit card company is nessicary at this point. You havent purchased anything from them and maybe they entered the amount wrong? maybe they forgot a decimal?? Hell, id just call em too... maybe they can explain. but you better alert your credit card company that something is going on!

thanks i've already done all the standard stuff, disputed the charge through my credit card company, left an email and a message at JP pets i just hope i am not in for a big huge hassle here. It can't be an issue where the screwed up a decimal though as i haven't ordered anything from them in some time so it is just a phantom charge out of nowhere.

hopefully its not an employee issue... There was a situation where the local Chinesefood restaurant here in town had that happen to a bunch of people since they kept card numbers... im not sure if they caught the guy or not, but he made out with a LOT of money from random cards.

Good luck, i really hope it dosnt present an issue for you

If it was employee fraud they would be pretty dumb to do a transaction with my card #'s at their own place of business though wouldn't they or am i missing something?

give me a break

if you have not ordered anything in months, they are ripping you off. They would have to have looked into an old file and charged your card. That would be the only way charges would have appeared. You cc company should be called though-they should have no issue doing a chargeback at all. Ben

Thanks Ben, I have disputed it with my card company. They said they contact them and they have to provide documentation frankly if it's all done over the phone i don't understand how they could claim i owe this in the first place since i haven't ordered anything in a long time. I hate to think an established name like JP would be involved in any such thing. I hope they contact me soon they should be well open for business by now.

What i mean by that Ben is JP pets is not a brand new business they have been around for a while haven't they? I can't speak for there reputation personally, i've heard some not so great things and i've heard some good things, I quit buying from them because i got aggravated that they never would include an invoice with my order which was certainly putting up a red flag with me and now this.............. makes me wonder

Steve Quinn

I've never heard of them myself.

It does seem pretty far-fetched that this could be an honest error if you have not placed an order with them for months....as Ben said, they would have to go back and actually look up your number. Have you checked to make certain there aren't any further charges from them on your card that would not have been on this statement?

No i haven't but i will do that, i did not even think of that because fraud was the furthest thing from my mind when i started tracking this issue.

When an unknown charge shows up on your Credit card, fraud should be the second thing youre thinking of other than yours or the companys mistake. Its Highly common nowadays and its best to check your cards online as well as the paper statements that come in the mail.

I know i keep track of EVERY penny now because so many people i know have been a victim in one way or another. My mothers card number was stolen and placed on another card ( yes they CAN do this!) and gas was bought in Brooklyn NY with it. Since we live in MA it was kind of suspicious.... The same happend to another family friend, again for random purchases.

Dont think that it CANT happen to you. because it can, and seems to have happend now. Youll get your money back, now is just the waiting game. Hopefully it was a true and honest mistake on their part. but you never know.

Perhaps your right it's a little strange that the only charge on there is JP pets, an organization i've done business with in the past. That leads me to believe if there is fraud going on it would almost have to be internal (JP pets) as it's too coincidental that the charge was made at JP pets rather than some random non-reptile related business that i've never done business with.

So i had left an email and a phone message this morning, i hadn't heard back by 3:00 p.m so i went ahead and called and talked to the owner. Apparantly there is a store called Quinn's pet store which has very close to the same business name as mine and his order was charged to me. The owner of JP pets has agreed not to challenge the dispute so it sounds like this is a done deal i hope.

Why wouldent he just refund your money and you could cancel the dispute. Chargebacks look bad on a merchant account??

i had a similar thing happen 2 or 3 years back. my debit card was double charged. it took longer than i wanted it to but he did refund it 100%. it was more than this amount so was a royal pain but did work it out. i have also been told they do not keep or cc's on file but i guess this proves that to be not true.

probably an honest mistake but

Theoretically if a merchant was short on cash, dishonest and had a bunch of credit card #'s lying around he theoretically could make a couple of these $1,000 "mistakes" then he's got your money (the merchant gets it within a day or 2) to use until the chargeback process/investigation is completed, probably a couple weeks at least......

Just for kicks, did you get a location or phone # of this Quinn's Pet Shop ?

Still sounds mighty fishy to me.....if they supposedly don't keep credit card numbers on file, especially. He still would have had to look back through his non-existant files to get your credit card number. He should have given you an immediate refund if it was a legit mistake, IMO.

And yeah, I'd be curious to see if you could find another "Quinn's Pet Shop" or anything similar in your area.....

I'll go with Ben S. and dzoo on this one, some of these companies tend to make "convenient" mistakes etc...

Basically Matt what he told me is once i put this charge in dispute that he couldn't issue a credit as once the dispute ran it's course the credit is issued by the card company, if he issued a credit a double credit would occur once the cardholder deemed it an invalid debt once he sent them the proper paperwork from the dispute. Does this sound rational?
