Gary, since you keep posting about Webslave buying the kingsnakes.com domain (even after the other thread was closed) and asking if it's ethical, in my opinion, the question is moot.

I have worked for internet companies, ranging from entertainment to education and marketing, since I graduated from college.

Ever since people first started buying domain names, it's been a well known fact that in order to secure your name, you must buy the rights to all the domain names you feel your organization might use. For example, I own several .com sites, but I didn't buy the corresponding .net, .org, .biz or .info domains. If some jerk comes along and buys one of those other domains, I'm out of luck.

It is the organization's responsibility to buy up and protect domain names if they are available.

Rich did not HIJACK a domain (which sometimes happens - a hacker can mess with DNS settings and illegally switch one domain name that they never paid for to point at a site). What he did is perfectly legal.

You say "yeah, but that doesn't mean it's ethical"... but it IS, however, marketing. You don't like it? Well, you're entitled to that opinion. Is it "wrong"? Not from my standpoint. If the owner of Kingsnake thought there might be confusion if someone bought kingsnakeS.com - well, he should have bought it himself.

As it was, Rich didn't hijack anything. But come on, stop talking on and on about how evil he was for purchasing an AVAILABLE domain name. What next, are you going to complain about how retailers pad the cost of a product so they can make money, when the actual product cost them much less? Have you written to Michael Jackson to complain how mean he was for buying the copyrights to many Beatles songs while no one was paying attention?

Sorry for my ire. But believe me, there are a LOT WORSE things that happen on the internet. Someone owning a porn site could have bought KingsnakeS.com instead and make a lot more people probably never get to kingsnake.com (and probably made them not want to search for the site again, either).

Furthermore Rich did not make a site that impersonates Kingsnake.com - I believe you or someone else (perhaps in the other thread) mentioned that eBay won a lawsuit against another company that bought a domain name that had "ebay" in it. Are you aware of all the eBay-cloned sites that have been created by dishonest people to try and make you think you are on the REAL ebay.com so that you will enter your ebay name and password, so they can steal that info? THAT, my friend, is why eBay pursued the lawsuit, not because of the domain name alone. I could go and buy my-own-ebay.com, and not be sued, as long as I didn't try to make people believe that it was really ebay.com.

I actually think that buying kingsnakes.com was funny. Do I laugh at the misfortune of children? No. Am I cruel? No. But in order to survive in online communities, you have to be savvy, and when people like you complain about such fluffy issues, I laugh. Not everything is black and white, and questions of ethics are very fuzzy, no matter what field you are dealing with. Yes, Rich did that to annoy the owner of kingsnake.com - but it was a LEGAL annoyance. Like running your lawnmower at 7am on a Saturday morning when you know your neighbors worked late the night before.

KS.com passes the time when i am bored... i dont trust buying off their classifieds without checkinng the BOI first... everbody knows KS allows criminals to sell on their classifieds... and if you get ripped your basically screwed...

I do not think a single member in this site expects that they can post an opinion here, and then not expect that an opposing opinion may sprout up. I am very familiar with your posts, and while others posted dissenting opinions, you were "attacked" for misquoting others, lying, and accusing others of a lack of integrity. You claimed that Rich was "stealing", that those who supported him endorsed "stealing", etc., and that is verbatim. You are truth challenged, and your own statements supporting such abound in the locked-down thread. The above quote by you indicates that you are either exceedingly naive ... a possibility, but not likely ..... or that you assume most readers here are. Maybe you best run back to the sanctuary of your own forum, for at least there you can ban those who will not suffer your stupidity. No free pass here.

Gary, it was not about the name calling. It was about the ones that are wanting to attack Rich and this site. These few also only wanted to post when there was a conflict, I need not say what side they were always on.

IMO, that is more than enough reason to send them down the road. They always were trying to pick a fight. Well they got one, and they lost.

You introduced the word "steal" to describe Rich's actions, and was not a quote or paraphrase from me. You continuously impled that Rich's integrity was in doubt. As to your character, does Rich slink into your site and attack you? Don't think so ! When opinions cross lines as yours have, expect trouble. Come back here with that dribble, and you'll get drop-kicked all over again. You are the textbook example of "serpwidgets" equation:

I posted about Rich's domain deal in the thread that was talking about Rich's domain deal. I try my best to keep my posts on the subject the topic starter wanted. You Jim need to be in the center of everything. But that is fine. As atleast Rich posted and answered some things. As I said ALL parties IMO were wrong as there were no good intentions from ANY party. See I think the whole thing was messed up. I posted it many times and even Dennis seen that.

I was not going to come over here to post at all. But I was asked by a fauna mod and another person. So I did. But I kept all my replies within the TOS. I seen no need to break the TOS at all.

Jim I am sorry that you are upset I read your post about the post count thing different then you wanted. But there is nothing I can do about it. As I posted many times how I read it. Then you quoted it over and over and I told you over and over how I still read it.

But I had to reply as I was being told that I kept things up after threads were locked. This is not the case and once I seen the thread locked I was not going to say a thing about it again.

Like when I seen a person bring up Jay Owens being a doctor and called him a liar. I came here and I posted saying Jay maybe many things but a liar is not one of them. You can search for it. You can ask him yourself. But I only come here to cause trouble I guess.

That is not the case I only post on things I have an opinion on, that is it. To many threads in the BOI get to many things going on in them. Just like this one has right now. All these excuses. I have no trouble putting up your exact words, and even your greatest stretch to paraphrase others does not cover the extent to which you misquote and then run for cover. Here's two "assumptions" of mine that I think are exceedingly safe:

1) You don't have to worry about Rich running to your site to bash your ethics, or lack thereof, about a topic two years old, much less something that might come up tomorrow. But you ran here like some puke.

2) If rather than from the safe anonymous distance of hiding behind a keyboard, we took you, Rich, myself, and the other top ten posters from the thread, and had the entire discussion at a round table instead, face to face, all you finger pointers would have sat on your hands. Your accusations would have been a whimper at best. You are not going to tell me to my face that I support theft for any reason. The moment you misquote one of us, you will be corrected before you finish the sentance. And the moment you tried to raise a two year old ethics issue, how many are going to be all over you to just shut up and leave.

As the mod of TRR, that you still felt a need to run here to dump on Rich on the topic at all shows a pathetic character. If we were at a round table now, I do not believe that a single entity, myself very much included, would have any problem expressing all of our disagreements with you to your face. We don't have to misquote, lie, invent felonious accusations, etc. That distinction says it all. In time, I'm sure Rich will throw some more garbage your way. I posted an opinion that I thought all the BS about this domain thing was wrong but to you few that is not good enough. Rich is right and Alan is wrong. I say both are.

I came here awhile back when Rich was looking for options to save money. I offered what I knew. He chose another way though.

Jay Owens was being attacked here by a few people. They were saying some BS about him not being a doctor or something. and saying he is a liar about it. I came and posted in Jays Defense.

On my forum members were bashing the hell out of Dennis. I posted to them all that Dennis is an stand up guy. And that any problem they had with Rich has nothing to do with Dennis. I even posted on my forum(which I can not believe I did not catch BS for) that Rich is an ok guy but just made bad choices IMO that is it.

You guys think I was saying Rich is the worst guy in the world. This is not the case. I was saying or trying to say that if what you think Alan did is wrong becuase he did it out of spite or just to get to Rich. Wouldn't that mean you should feel the same about what Rich did as he plainly stated he did it just to get to Jeff. To rattle his feathers if you will.

When asked what I thought about what Alan did I posted that I thought EVERYTHING was wrong. But that was not good enough.

When Lucille caused me all them issues over at my forums. She pmed me daily with things I should do and this and that. I did not come over here and start the same crap. Out of all my posts I got 2 warnings. They both were for the full name thing. I removed my info but posted twice afterwards. So I took them warnings(I questioned them though it was outside the BOI but in a subforum) but they are not there anymore not sure why though.

I also came here to let Ken know that someone was using his email to send virus way back in the day.

I even at one time offered to host NFL pickems for fauna members. I have a neat script that people in the NFL boards like. and I knew people here also would like.

Just becuase I do not post often does not mean I am bad. I had an opinion on something and I posted it. Just like so many others do on the BOI. Why cann't I?

So not everything I post here is against fauna. I think there are still great people here. Nicolia is pretty cool, Ken is cool but never has time to post lol, Dennis is cool, and many others. Tripplemoons(Sarah) is awesome IMO love the girl to death. She is good people.

Sorry you guys feel this way about me though. But it is not my problem. This is something you have to deal with. You guys have an opinion on this. That is awesome. I have mine.
