In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Yeah yeah... it's my duty to go serve as a jurer. I understand.

But unlike a lot of people, when I don't go to work, I get no pay. Add to that, I don't know how LONG this will last(one day? four days?) so I can't schedule ANY clients until I know when I'll be at work. So I know I'll be missing out on at least a couple days of work and at BEST have a slow week following however long I'm gone.

Then, they require "pants suit or dress" for women. I don't OWN that. Unless you count medieval costume skirts and dresses. I don't have money to go out and buy clothing just for jury duty, and then chunk it because I'll never have another reason to wear it.

They'll give me $15 per day. Because of where I live, that will just about cover my gas to and from the courthouse. Oh... and since I'll have to be there at 7:30am.... I have to leave my house at about 5:30am. And drive with no AC in the truck... during July in Florida.

I'm thinking that if I claim religious exemption for clothing, I can say that I dress as a Pirate because I am one of His Followers, Blessed by His Noodley Appendage, RAMEN. I have a flowy skirt, thigh boots and corset with a hat with feathers on it. That's "dressy" right? If they fuss, I can say I wasn't allowed to bring the dress sword.

Sigh. It's my duty. It's how we have a 'fair' justice system. But I am also allowed to vent and gripe about it too. I just hope I get a juicy trial that's over fast. Maybe I can be the one to yell "GUILTY!" at the end.

Oh!! And I have to report on the exact day that TWO of my clutchs are due to hatch! The AGONY!!!!

Theresa

I know that here in Texas if you have good reason you can reschedule. Can you call and talk to them?

I called. Unless I am the sole caretaker of a invalid or child, they really don't care much. I'll go in and when they start asking about "Who owns guns... who believes in the death penelty" type questions and I give honest answers, they'll probably dismiss me.

Otherwise I can ask if LilBeachie can sit in on deliberations...

did you actually get chosen or just a notice? Not sure how it works where you are but here you call the day before to find out if you actually have to go in. I've been summoned the last 5 years in a row and never had to report.

My dad said if they call you in, just allude to the fact that you don't trust cops and you should be dismissed. (LOL)

PS maybe we can start a new trend of ren-ware being a new daily fashion trend cause I'd do it!

Hell, I was picked for a jury once, and one of the attorneys dropped a bombshell on us right as they were dismissing us for the day after the selection process. She said "Oh, by the way, I hope none of you have an issue with having convicts presenting testimony, some of which will be in chains.....", and she turned away and walked back to her seat.

Excuse me?

Well, on the drive home I pondered about this, and when I got home I wrote an email to the judge explaining my reservations about this.

I told him that I DID have a problem with having convicts present testimony. First off, they quite likely pled NOT GUILTY at their own day in court, and obviously that was a lie, because they were found GUILTY, which is why they are now in jail. Furthermore, if you have someone in chains in the courtroom it is because the officers in charge there will not believe the convicts claim that they will not try to escape while in the courtroom. Which is PLAIN evidence that their word means absolutely nothing to the officers. So why should their word mean a darn thing to me? Therefore ANY testimony they make in court I will HAVE to simply assume to be a lie.

When I showed up the next day for the court case the judge dismissed me as a jurist. :)

I just got a notice, I do have to call the weekend before to check. But even if at that point they say "We don't need you" it still costs me a day of work since I will have left the one day unscheduled in case I got called. Better than several days, but still annoying.

I still say that with my right to religious freedom I should be allowed to dress as a Pirate. LilBeachie wants to shout at one of the lawyers to "Stop that opiniatin' insteada givin' facts! DROP AND GIMME FIFTY!"

I think I'd let him.

huh... don't see why you can't dress like that. I have gotten notices for jury duty twice and both times I did NOT dress up. I don't own any dresses and I don't own any fancy suits. I wore a nice solid color Tshirt and black jeans. :) I wasn't the best dress but I certainly wasn't the worst dressed either.

First time our group got dismissed as not needed. The second time, I got sent to a court room and during the selection process, the judge was asking questions about hardships and such for each person. I answered honestly.. I get paid by the hour and for every day I don't work I don't get pay. I don't get sick leave. I don't get personal leave. I don't get paid vacation time. And my employer does NOT cover pay when one has jury duty unless you are a full time staffer (which I am not). I told him that if a case was to last more than 2 days (the equivalent of my normal 2 days off each week) then I'd be unable to pay bills, etc. because really.. $15 "jury pay" don't cover dinner for one night let alone car payment, etc. Judge said none of that was reason enough to excuse me, but he would move me to the "bottom" of the jury selection list so that there was a good chance the lawyers would get their choices made from those higher on the list and that's exactly what happened. :)

I appreciate the information! They don't expect us to stay overnight though, right? I can't do that! I have critters to feed!

The paper stated "NO JEANS" in all caps, and said "pants suit or dress" but when I called, the woman seemed more like "As long as it's nice, no shorts and flip flops" so I guess I can find something or other. My only pants are jeans, and my only skirts are pretty much... pirate!
