In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I'm newer to this forum, but thought I would start posting here. Me and a buddy built these. I think they turned out great!

I've been building cages for a while, its more of a hobbie

thats not the finished product. the wood is sealed now, all the edges are siliconed. The lighting was actually pretty easy to install

Thanks everyone! They aren't finished in those pics, but we put electrical boxes with ceramic fixtures in the cages on the bottom and third rows. Then ran conduit to connect all the boxes so I only need 1 timer. With the lights on the top of those cages they will keep the rows above heated.

That is going to be a flat out gorgeous room when all is done.
You might need extra heat but you can always check your cage temps and see, heat from the row below might not give a suitable range of temps and no basking.
I would love to see the room when it is complete.

they have been up and running for about a week and the temps have been staying in the right range so far. I'll have to take more pics, but there will be more being built on the side walls. They are for mostly colubrids so they don't need a light for their basking spot.

Vrey nice Mr. Groninger,
You are a person after my own heart, in the build your own department that is.
If you tell me you used primarily recycle wood I may even fall in platonic love with you.

LOL! I couldn't tell you if it was. Probably not, I had a friend who is a cabinet maker order the wood for me to get it at his cost. I can't justify paying what some of the caging companies charge. I can build what I need and I building things. I have built a lot of cages for fellow herpers. What kind of stuff do you build? Thanks for the compliment

I hear you about the cost of cages. I would love to have some of the beautiful enclosures I see others have but I can't justify the cost either, to my wife.

I have made a few 6 cage tall units similar to yours but not a nice. I also designed and built my own solar collectors for my snake building that save me a bundle in heating costs every winter.

Most of what I build is out of recycled materials I gather tearing down structures for other people or stuff I can get cheap at auctions.

Good job on the cages and thanks for sharing them with us.

Ahh, the ol' reality check partner. I'd be eating beans & weenies all day/every day if it weren't for my better half.

Sometimes I wish I could afford the nice factory made cages but the joy & pride of building our own can't be beat.

Ya'll take care!

I agree, and add that even if I could afford factory built cages, I would still rather build my own for that very reason.

I unfortunately don't have a reality check partner, but reality seems to have a way of checking in on a regular basis anyway. This has been a blessing in a way, because it has forced me to find ways of producing myself, the things that I could not afford to buy.

As a result I have found a wonderful new hobby, and I really enjoy coming in here to see what others are doing.

I really enjoy building the cages. It definitely gives you a sense of pride and accomplishment. I agree, even if buying the high dollar factory machined cages were in the budget, I would still build my own.

The cage thing is more of a hobby so I build a lot of stuff for other herpers that are in the same boat as me. If anybody needs help or advice with caging just ask and I'll try to help as much as possible. I just got pics of this back from the person I built them for.
