In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Just how bad is it?

Well folks I just posted some good news about one of our girls but now I need your input. Friday our air conditioner for the snake room took a dive and the inside temps hit 98 and then on Saturday it went to 100 before we could find any place that had a unit to replace the old one. We normally maintain a temp of 78 - 84 in the snake room according to the time of the year. The horrible part of this is three of our girls are gravid one laid this morning, 8 beautiful eggs, pastel X a greenish normal female with green eyes, I am not even posting pics as I am not sure they are going to make it, are any of these eggs going to hatch or has this heat spike caused real problems.

We tried everything we could to lower the temperature in the room but with sustained temps of 106 degrees outside it was a losing battle. I had to drive almost 60 miles to get an air conditioner and now the room is back where it was pre Friday. All our snakes seem to have handled the heat ok but we will need to keep an eye on things for a while. I pray I am just being hyper sensitive but putting our girls through this really has me sick to my stomach.

I would say you are being hyper sensitive. Obviously if things started looking bad you could easily connect it to this heat issue, but I honestly wouldn't worry about it.

If the female hadn't laid the eggs yet and it was only a few days I personally wouldn't be concerned. I can not give you a scientific reason on why I feel this way, I am just going off of what I have seen.

I hope they all turn out well and congrats on the clutch!

Im sure in Africa they occasionally get warmer then 100. Its not like Africa is a constant 85 degree temp. I think fluctuations matter when either it goes over 105 or so or when its a regular occurance, but, an once in a while fluctuation I fail to see how that would be cause too much of a negative impact. But, thats, just me. :) Consider any snakes that live in your area in the wild, Im sure they are figuring out how to deal with this heat whether they like or not.

Thanks Amanda, I hope you are right but I will be on edge for some time yet.

Eugene thanks for the boost of confidence, I know the temps in Africa get much hotter but the snakes go underground, where it is as low as 55 degrees, to escape the heat. These girls could not get away from the heat, however, I am going to hold on to my hope for them as well.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there is a distinct possibility you will run into some trouble. I had a similar heat spike -- got hotter than 100, though, at least up to 110, I don't know exactly how hot, but... it did some damage. I lost a couple of females, and the remaining 3 clutches that were laid over the following 2 weeks after the spike all did go bad. They were laid looking good, properly veined, but all molded then collapsed within 4 days. I really hope that this doesn't happen to you, with "only" hitting 100, but it is a possibility.

Reverend, I can't offer any sound advice, but I'll wish you the best, and I really hope to see some gorgeous hatchlings around early September! I went through something similar this past week. My snake room got up to close to 100 for nearly 2 days. I was able to keep it under 100 most of the time, but I was really worried about losing animals before I got my A/C taken care of. Good luck with yours!!!

Animals have a certain amount of resiliance, they need it because of what nature thows at them. I've seen them survive and go on to thrive in adverse conditions that boggle the mind. The animals weren't overheated for a huge length of time and there's still hope. Please be sure to let us know how things work out for you. I'm hoping that you get a bunch of perfect hatchlings to enjoy.

I really want to thank everyone for your consoling words and I know they are more than just words. That is the really wonderful part of being part of this community you folks really do care.

I know I will have to keep an eye on these girls and their clutches so I will keep you posted as things develope, that means if you do not have any updates to this thread all is going well if something does go wrong i will post it here.

Thank you all again.

PS Matt- I hope your snakes will be Ok as well, sounds like you had a very similar experience.

Day 50 and it looks like they are doing good!

Well the two girls that we thought may be gravid durring the heat spike are doing good but they never clutched for us. The normal to pastel that laid the clutch spoken of are seemingly doing OK. We are at day fifty and did not loose one egg in this clutch. I will update when they start pipping.

AWESOME!! I had a *feeling* they would be okay :) SUPER happy they are looking good for you!!

Good luck and I can't wait to see the final results!!

That's great news, Preacher!! I'm so glad to hear that they're pulling through for you!! :D

Good news to add!

Well I have really good news thus far, it seems these little ones are going to be just fine. I opened the incubator early this morning and found the eggs as they are in the first picture. By 10:30 this evening I went back down to check and found them all pipped and some venturing out already. This is just a normal to pastel clutch but I was truly worried with the temperatures going to 100 degrees in the snake room just prior to being laid.
I have no idea what the one is at the very front of the tub is because every time I look it goes back in, but I think I am going to temporarily name it bubbles, what do you think.
Thanks everyone for your support.
