I've certainly seen crickets and kingworms cannibalize each other, but have never heard of this happening in an obligate herbivore feeder. I've seen plenty of hornworms and silkworms die off entirely with insufficient food, rather than eat each other's corpses. In any case, the photo shows that there was plenty of food in the cup when it arrived - for 7 worms, at least.These insects will eat each other if starved. That could certainly explain the low counts depending on how long they were delayed.
