In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

A thought came to mind a couple of days ago. I know the Karma System is set up so a person is allowed to give out two karma for a 24 hour period(due in part to the aggressive abuse of the rep system last year). Which I don't mind much at all, so this is just a suggestion. I am not always on Fauna at the same time everyday, sometimes I am only on for maybe a few minutes. When I can get on in the evening yesterday and give out karma, I may only be able to get on this site today in the morning and not be allowed to give out karma. So I having to wait another day to go back and give karma to someone who deserves it. With my memory, I have a hard time trying to even remember who I wanted to give karma to a couple of days ago and where that post is hidden. So my question:

Can we have the Karma System set for two karma per 12 hour period?

I dont even understand the Karma system to be honest with you.

Like i'll see people that have like 10 green bars, but a karma power number less than mine. As you can see, my green bars are low.

What i had wondered is, do you get more bars from people with a higher karma rating? How does that go?

I dont give out karma often, only because i usually only do when i think its an exceptionally good post thats highly informative and on point. Plus, i usually forget there's even a button that says i can give karma. LoL!

I'm sure it's possible, the question is, will he do it?

Sorry, but the system is written for the limiter in 24 hour segments. It cannot be changed to a 12 hour period without custom programming. Which quite honestly, I can't see spending the money to implement.

As it exists now, I think it is working effectively to reduce the abuse that ran rampant a while back. People do not give out the karma points as frivolously since they are limited to just two per 24 day.

No, it's not perfect at all and I still get instances of some members abusing it, but I guess it will have to do for now.

Well if changing it would cost money then I see no reason to bother with it. Thanks for the explanation.

This is a little off topic, but i think that a name should be required on the Karma System. I had gotten a negative karma(or red one i dont really know how it works) and i really didnt deserve it. So i think it wold be nice so you could contact the person and try to sort it out. Just a thought.

If you were a Contributor member or above, you would be able to see who posted the Karma points on you. ;)

The only problem with knowing who gave you negative Karma is that the temptation is there to give it back. I recently got my first red mark, and it was for a very benign post...just that the person was upset with me for something else. I'll even admit to being tempted to return the favor...but when I looked at his subsequent posts (even though I took issue with the content) I realized that if it were anybody else's post I wouldn't bother. Sucks to be a grownup sometimes, lol. (that wasn't aimed at you, LeosForLess)

I didn't miss it...I'm just not sure of the answer in the new system. As you probably remember, before Karma was Reputation Points. Under that system, the amount of your increase (or decrease) was affected by the RP of the person giving the points. The green bars still seem to be reflective of that system (when you pass the cursor over them it show the reputation power). Now, you and I have pretty close Karma levels, but my reputation power is much higher...my guess is that this is reflective of my much higher post count. duration of membership, and member feedback is also a part of it - but I don't really understand how they all combine in the new system, just that the numbers are lower than in the old one

This chart from my admin page may explain things somewhat.

Yup, That explains it somewhat. Now by reputation-altering power, does that mean that the number next to the green bars changes? Or does that mean that the number of reputation points changes making the green bars possibly go up some?

Im wondering about the "green bars" thats all im really worried about to be honest. Still not quite sure how they get bigger or smaller.

The green bars are an indication of the karma points someone has given YOU. The number to the left of the bars is an indication of how many points you can give someone else.

Yeah people will abuse it, heck I had someone I was arguing with on another site come here and dig up a post that was months old at the time and hit me with negative points lol. Takes all kinds I guess... Randy

Well you must have really pissed him/her off pretty badly because only paid members can leave negative feedback for anyone. That was another function that was being abused here by false registrations that I had to curtail somewhat.

Rich, I know who it was, but is was not me. :) They are a long term paid member. I did not want people thinking it was me, due to Randy and my past bouts. For the record that was then, me and Randy have now mended our differences.

See that, people can make amends. Why cant we all just get along??

My question is, if someone is banned, shouldn't their votes be taken away from whereever they made them. They cannot change their vote so it is unfair to a seller that worked hard to improve their reputation. This could work both ways I guess. It would be unfair to a buyer if a well known, but banned, individual had a good guy vote for a seller that was recently found out to be less than stellar.
