    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Karma System

I don't see how that could be workable. I would have to presume too much. Bearing in mind that someone being banned from this site implies that they left on not so friendly terms, how would I be able to determine their input on such things? And would it be truly a change of heart on their part, or in reality just a poke at the system? I mean seriously, what are the chances that someone banned from here really gives a rip one way or the other? And certainly I doubt I would be inclined to want to spend any of my time in correspondence over the matter based on what their probable attitude would be like. Honestly, all I would be doing is setting myself up for some abusive replies.

I am sure many people here would find the email replies I get to the automated birthday wishes to people banned or suspended from this site quite humorous.
 
I was really speaking of removing their vote completely but I can see that it amounts to the same thing. Thanks for the reply.
 
Rich yeah I guess I must have lol no biggie, I guess some take things to personally. Was just mentioning it as an example..

Bobby gee I should have made that clearer I guess so no one would think it was you after we both admitted to our past spats on another site. I think you looked at our disagreement the same as I did and didn't take it personally. Randy

Gee Griz want me to post the info here? was a 4 or 5 months old post that you read when it was new and had received a number of positive feedbacks till our little disagreement on another site got under your skin and you went looking for ways to get a little revenge. So yeah sure seems you gave it way more thought than you should have.. Need to stop taking things so personally there buddy. Randy

Randy, I am certainly not looking for a flame war here hence my little emoticons. Prior to the reptibid forums I had never heard of you. After the little "spat" and you metioning your membership here on Fauna I did take a look at your posts. That one in particular struck me funny hence the negative Karma. If it was not warranted and was retailatory, I am sure Rich would have nailed me for it as that is closely monitored.

Regardless, it's old news that you keep bringing up (second time I have seen it here lately). Let your wounds heal.....deep breath......now smile! :raspberry

Griz as I said before no biggie. I imagine one reason Rich didn't do anything was because I didn't bring it up to him.

The reason I brought it up in this thread was as an example of abusing the Karma system and didn't mention any names...Randy
 
I understand Randy. I actually just emailed Rich about an abuse of the system this morning. It all depends on how you word something that will determine it I reckon. It's simply too hard of an issue, and quite frankly not very important, for Rich to make any modifications to the existing system. I understand that completely.

No hard feelings here towards you or Bob, I consider both of you friends. Both of you are good people in my eyes. I think it would be a big waste of time to hash old differences. When looking back, they were quite silly arguments, IMO. :rolleyes:

If the Karma "abuse" wasnt reported then Rich wouldnt have known to look at it and take appropriate measures. He doesnt have the time to run around and look at every karma post members are giving each other.
 
Hm, something has happened with the "karma", I see the numbers that were in front of the green boxes are gone.

Sorry, I removed the "numbers" in the karma system as this is a rating of the "power" a member has to apply karma to someone else. It's really not necessary, causes numerous questions, and puts an unnecessary load on the server (it needs to calculate that figure for every member in the displaying posts). So all things considered, I felt it better to just remove it.

As for viewing the karma comments, I do that only on occasion and if I get the feeling that it may need to be reviewed, or have been requested to do so because of some perceived abuse. Otherwise, no, I've got other things to be doing with my time.
 
Um......so, is the amount of "Karma" everyone gives and takes the same, or.........?
