• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Killing the messengers....

So perfect example of this "Killing the messenger"... I make my first BOI post with less than stellar feedback on someone who has otherwise generally good feedback (sorry to say, my experience kind of sucked, not with the animals, but with customer care), and in less than 12 hours my reputation level went from neutral to greater than negative 50. It shouldn't be any wonder why people are afraid to post.

I don't really think your situation quite fits that category. At best, it suggest that some may be a bit trigger happy with negative karma. Just try not to be so thin-skinned on the BOI. Everyone's free to give their opposing opinions and dish out their karma as they see fit, but the loudest voices don't necessarily reflect the opinion of the masses; not does that red block necessarily define who you are. I think you should just do your best to post in a calm, honest and resolute manner; let people find fault where they will. Don't be so eager to jump into traps that are meant to make you lose your cool and justify their negative ideas about you.

Thank you, and I hope you're right. It seems like all animal hobbies are very cutthroat, and I know how damaging something so seemingly stupid as forum rep can be.

Don't bother, the regulars on this board own the place. If you don't do things exactly the easy they want you to, they just gang up on you. Your story is one of many at this point.

A few are harsh but they mean well, but the vast majority are just internet-power hungry mean, angry individuals waiting for something new to come along so they have a new toy to kick around for a while.

Browse the classifieds, but don't even bother yourself with trying to be a functioning party of this community because that's not what the regulars want. They will simply dog you until you get fed up and leave.

I do not think this is right. I have been a member for a long time, and I have seen many different types of people post, some probably don't even own any reptiles, but if you/they act in a respectful manner, offer your opinions in a clear deliberate way, and above all, never get caught up in the drama, you will be a valued member of this forum. The BOI has stood for years because it is too important to let it be silenced by the few trolls that lurk here. As Dan says, the
"the loudest voices don't necessarily reflect the opinion of the masses;"
, just remember, you are not alone here, if you heed some good advice.
