Hey I am as free to offer my opinions to any thread on this site as you are. You have no authority to tell me what I can or cannot presume - only Rich and his appointed moderators can do that if I am not mistaken.

From the moment you decided to post this thread, you opened yourself up to comments from anyone and everyone. Do you not remember? You ASKED for people's opinions! Now that people are giving you their opinions and some of them are not exactly to your liking you are complaining about people not being nice to you. Being nice has nothing to do with anything here. If you want to think I am rude just for stating in a direct no nonsense manner what I perceive to be facts based on what you stated in your original post then I guess you are free to think that.

I am all for kingsnake bashing when it is warranted, but in this instance based on your own testimony and proof (copied email correspondance) bashing kingsnake over this problem is NOT warranted IMHO.

This isn't about me breaking the rules, whether or not I was honest about that or about my posts being deleted. Yes, I knew the site url would be censored.

This IS about you breaking the rules and then coming here and essentially whining about it. You apparently knew before hand that this website was banned on their forums and you still took the time and effort to sneak around their rules. You admit you got caught red-handed and then try to weasle out of the moderators information about someone else's account when they told you up front that they were not going to do that.

About me questioning after they told me not to, come again? Reread their first email to me, where they talk about third-party intervention. ......

In case you missed it, they were talking about individual accounts, not the profanity and url filters alienating particular websites.

In case you missed it - read their TOS.

"Any public discussion of actions against a user's account will be removed, and we will not discuss any action against a user's account with anyone but the individual themselves."


faunaclassieds/boi is a website that is owned by Rich - not by you. Rich has/had an individual account on kingsnake. He apparently no longer has an account there. Therefore it should be quite clear that requests about Rich and subsequently the filtering out of HIS websites are not up for discussion to you - a third party person. What it boils down to is that it is none of your business why someone's website is banned from Jeff's site. That is between that person who owns the website (in this case Rich) and Jeff and his people. Going to Jeff's people and intervening and requesting that they tell you why they have taken action against someone else's account (which obviously does include reasons for censoring certain website/s) and actually expect an answer from them is ludicris.

What is up with their filters and why wont they tell us what isn't allowed?? I don't understand. I mod a few forums myself and I would never expect the members to follow rules that I wont even tell them about!!

If a site is not allowed over there it gets [b-l-e-e-p]'d out in your message. A pretty straight forward way of telling someone they said something they probably should not have really said. Smart thing to do is not repeat that mistake let alone go out of your way to get the words to show up in spite of their filters.

According to the rules that kingsnake has setup it is not your problem to deal with or understand why they have chosen to censor websites belonging to anyone else. If Rich has a problem with his site being censored over there it is his problem to try and work things out with Jeff.

It's denying your privilege of stating your own words on a public forum, in a public place; denying your freedom of speech.

Apparently you have little concept on exactly what 'freedom of speech' means.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

Last time I checked kingsnake is not congress therefore they are not denying you your first amendment rights. They can and do reserve the right to deny you the privilege of stating your own words on their forums if they should feel it is necessary and that is also pointed out in their tos last time I checked.

This does not mean that I wanted your "opinion" on this,

If something gets [b-l-e-e-p]'d on kingsnake.com then it does not take a rocket scientist to know that it is not allowed.

Understand that the forums exist to draw customers for the advertisers.

I forgot to say one more thing...One would think they'd be more user friendly if they wanted to draw customers.

Actually, I think they are taking the typical stance of Corporate America. Make everything so bland and non-contraversial (sp?) so no one gets upset (refernce point: Clear Channel's recent radio programming with the removal of Howard Stern). I agree it's the wrong way, but it is a standard response and not unique to KS.

ok we seem to be pretty clear on this point: You broke the rules had your posts pulled as a result and were informed by jeff's people why your posts were pulled as it related to their tos.

The problem seems to revolve around this point:

You go back to jeff's people and ask about information pertaining to SOMEONE ELSE'S kingsnake account (in this case Rich's account). As it relates to their tos - it's none of your business what actions they have taken against someone else's account. You are not privaleged to ask for information about someone else's account. That is how they handled their tos to this whole mess you brought up here.

Their reasons for why they chose to take action against Rich's account (which obviously involves the filtering out of any mention of his websites on their forums) is between Rich (the account holder) and jeff and his people - not you. What is difficult to understand about that?

You keep saying that the website has no bearing on the matter as the URL itself is not an account - but it does matter. The website url is related directly to the person's account in question - the website belongs to the person who holds(held) the kingsnake account. The account in question is Rich's. Kingsnake/jeff saw fit for whatever reason to take action against Rich's account. From all that is plain to see over the course of history they apparently decided that it was in their interest that the action taken against him among other things was to censor his website url on their forums. Asking them to tell you their reason for taking action against Rich's account is not going to happen. That is what is ludicris. You keep pushing the point on something they are not going to tell you and they told you upfront in the very beginning that they weren't going to give you information about someone else's account. Asking them why they banned Rich's websites is asking for information about his account. capice?

It would be utterly stupid of me to go to kingsnake and whine and complain about how I was treated on faunaclassifieds. It's just as utterly stupid for me to come here to faunaclassifieds and complain about how I was treated on kingsnake. There is no comparison. faunaclassifieds run their forums in the manner they choose just as kingsnake runs their forums how they want to and yet even other websites run their forums how they like. It matters not one bit how fair or unfair any particular site might be in relation to all the other sites. Each site is free to do as they please.

kingsnake tells you their rules up front when you set up an account. If people don't want to toe the line there as laid out by their rules then they should not get an account with them. It's stupid to see people time and time again who don't like kingsnakes rules get an account with them, break the rules in whatever fashion, and then complain about it later elsewhere.

Good point, Daniel. This is very evident in the venomous forum when someone brings venomoids. I've seen more venomoid arguements than anything else and every time, the threads get deleted. That's probably why there's no movement in that room...all the new posts get deleted! LOL!

You are in great company. Lot's of us have issues with Kingsnake. I was banned too. In fact, pretty much everybody I know that is extremely knowledgeable about herps is banned. I've even vowed to never buy anything posted in any of their classified ads, although I price check over their from time-to-time. It was so bad over there when I was banned that my favorite forum was completely shut down due to the uproar. They resurrected it under a different name but it pretty much sucks compared to what it was.

But since that time, there has not been a really strong consolidation of hobbyist onto any one particular alternative forum. It seems the sense of community that existed before Jeff B started to require physcological attention and drove everybody away has been lost for a while. Even the classifieds over there are shrinking compared to what I used to see. I'd bet that the reason he's doubled his fees lately is due to a decrease in advertising and classifieds traffic.

I really feel that if a critical mass of people were to focus their attention on any one site that there could be a viable alternative created to having to go to Kingsnake. Faunaclassifieds is perfectly positioned to be that site in my opinion but it will take a little bit of time. Even Kingsnake didn't happen in a day.

LMAO!!! I haven't been banned from anywhere...since I can still post at Kingsnake, I guess I'm not in the "extremely knowlegeable" category...yet. Too funny!!

Thank you for posting though...It's very nice to have some support when you're venting frustrations.
