    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I recently purchased two leopard tortoises approx. 11 months old. One is healthy and the other looks like he is shedding. His legs and neck are peeling a
lot. He has lost most of his toe nails. He had 2 missing when I got him about 2 months ago and I noticed that the remaining were facing different directions and soon after fell off. His skin color seems to be lighter than the others. He eats and drinks very well. Does anyone know what might be going on with him. They both had been housed together but that is all I know about their previous care. Thanks

Any chance the tortoise has received a vitamin A shot from a vet? That can cause skin to slough.

If you are keeping them humid to prevent pyramiding the possibility exists that perhaps things got too wet, but that would be rather odd.

I do not believe that he has been given a vitamin A shot. I am not keeping them humid. Humidity is 20 percent. Cool temp is 78 and hot temp is 95. Habitat is 3 ft. X 5 ft. So he has a wide range of temp choices. I do soak him twice a week but for only about 10 minutes, just long enough to poop. I do have a small water dish in the habitat for when he is thirsty. I just can't figure out what could be going on. Whatever it is, it is not affecting the other tortoise at all. Thanks so much for responding and have a great day.
