In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Lighten up Frances

I've got my "oh **** bag" packed and ready to go. Now it's just a matter of bringing in my patio furniture, filling my bath tub with fresh water, strapping on my Sig (thankfully GA is a reciprocal state), putting a leash on the dog, and heading out the door.

On the bright side, the room that's waiting for me is an executive suite, so I can at least be comfortable while my house blows away. ;)

I may as well lower the water level in my pool a bit before I leave, too.

I was just looking at the radar map loop for the Tallahassee area. Hmm looks like there are storms south of us moving in a southwesterly direction. If those are long distance effects of Frances, then that doesn't worry me. But if that means a high pressure area is setting in north of me, then that could cause Frances to get pulled over into the Gulf of Mexico.

But the radar loop of Frances shows a small front moving storms to the north east. Looks like it's going to be a tug of war to see where the storm actually tracks.

Here's the storm log I copied from Intellicast:

Ken - when you get settled in up there in Hinesville, here's that thread I told you about on ArmsLocker about that guy killing a rattlesnake:

Rattlesnake thread

That will take your mind off of things for a while. :)

Projected landfall is right around Melbourne and Vero Beach, from what I can see.

Since the storm slowed, I've extended my stay in Hinesville through Monday morning. Many people have left the hotel to go back to FL since Frances was downgraded to a Cat 2, but I'm going to wait it out here.

After seeing what Melbourne got hit with, I have a pretty good idea of what damage to expect upon my return. Oh well, that's what insurance is for. The power's out anyways, so it's not like I'd be able to get anything accomplished. Also, it takes almost a full tank of gas for me to get from the GA border to Melbourne, and I'm hoping some of the gas stations along the way will have gotten more gas by then (on the way out, those stations that weren't sold out were rationing customers to two gallons).

I'm treating these last two days as a "vacation," as I'm mentally exhausted at this point.

It's turned out to be quite an eventful evac, and was quite a learning experience. Just before I left my house on Thursday, I accidentally dropped a metal ashtray on my right little toe. I didn't even give it a second thought until today when it started aching and I noticed that about 20% of that toe is now purplish-black. No worries, though.

On the way up here, my left rear brake caliper froze, which wore the pad down fairly quickly, and probably didn't help my mileage too much. Realistically, the damage was already done by the time I had any indication of a problem, so I chose to press on. $380 later, my car's roadworthy again, although I did have a bit of concern about the smoke billowing from that brake after I drove it back to the hotel. Turned out it was just some splashed brake fluid burning itself off.

The icing on the cake, though, came when I went to pay for the car repair. I opened my wallet and noticed a blank sleeve where I once had two credit cards. Dang things just slid right out somwhere without me noticing. The bummer about that is that one of those cards was intended to be used to pay for gas on the way back. So now my Discover, which is the only other card I have with me, will be maxed out once I pay my hotel bill. Luckily, I was able to find a Bank of America in Savannah and wrote myself a check, so at leat I have cash to pay my way home.

Like I said, these last two days here, I'm treating as a "vacation." I need to take my stress level down a notch or two before I go home and ping it out again.
