In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

LLL Reptile - Unhappy

Regarding the wish to have individual pics posted...that is just unrealistic for a wholesaler/importer. The amount of time spent to publish a shot of each and every animal would be tremendous...perhaps they should implement a system wherebye the consumer can pay for a pic if desired?
But then, how many of you would pay the extra five bucks or so just to see the animal?? If you would, maybe you should express this desire to them, and see what LLL says.
I've always found them to be a "fair" company...nothing wonderful, but nothing horrible either.

Greg,

Your idea of paying for the pictures is interesting although as you say I don’t know how many people would do it with all the suppliers out there that do provide them for free. I concur that it is unrealistic to expect from a wholesaler/importer to post individual pictures. But when a company is selling “retail” (they are selling individual animals) on the web, and charge them as such, they should be willing to go through that effort. I’m not asking to have them for whole photo session of 10 animals from which to choose from, as most breeders do. Maybe just of one animal and then tell you “this one” is the one you will receive. I’m not talking about one feeder anole but let’s say a $100 animal. Large breeders such as Davis, Clark, Sutherlands’ etc. will send you a picture of a normal ball python. They could tell you “it just looks normal” and avoid taking pictures. And I’m not talking about expensive heterozygous animals but simply “normal” ball pythons. They do it because they recognize the uniqueness of each animal. Your idea of paying for the picture is worthy of consideration. That will certainly take care of the “window shoppers”. Then again as you also said, how many are willing to pay in advance to see what’s available. Choosing between 3 animals would be an additional $15! It will turn into a poker game, if you want to see what I have, you will have to pay! :)

LLL has an incredible variety of reptiles available. I have been into their Escondido store many times, and the Oceanside store a few times. I have seen LLL at nearly every herp show I've attended where they've had many tables full of different species and supplies.

The animals caging/tubs/cups on a whole are always the cleanest I have seen in any reptile shopping environment. The stores usually have reasonably knowlegable personel and I've seen a couple that didn't know the answer refer to someone else at the shop rather than give wrong info. There is no lingering odors that are offensive to ones nose.

The supplies and customer service are excellent with good prices.

They have hundreds of animals for sale at any given time and although I too have seen an "iffy" animal from time to time, I've never seen one on display with mites or so emaciated the skeletons are showing. I've never seen obvious mouth rot/uri type situations. I have seen an occasional bad shed. I have never seen a larger snake coiled up several times in deli cup as a living quarters as described. I hope that was an unusual circumstance.

As a past animal services officer I can tell you that I have seen things that I wouldn't wish for my own personal pet since they are all pretty spoiled, but the way the animals are kept, fed and cleaned at LLL would keep them way out of trouble with local animal control/humane services officer.

My collection is too valuable to me to risk bringing home imorts and the problems associated with them from time to time.... but, if LLL had an import that I couldn't get in some other way that I really wanted I would feel pretty good about the chances of it being as healthy as an import can be.

Cathy,

Although I never bought from them, I had the chance of visiting their table at the last Tinley Park show. They were helpful with my questions and the animals looked fine overall. And I'm saying overall because there were lots of them, and I did not check each and one of them.

true, but the least they can do is have a camera handy so they can snap and send pictures of a couple animals when they email you back, instead of just one animal representing the whole bunch.

that was my only real complaint about them... i wanted to buy a retic off them and they sent me a pic of a had shot of one snake, and i couldn't really tell from that pic what locale it actually was, so i didn't purchase, just some constructive criticism.... overall they are good guys.

Has Cali really gotten that laxed in the enforcement of there "animal neglect" laws? I haven't lived there for years, but they used to act pretty quick when something like this was reported. Or has it even been reported?

This keeping of reptiles in "Deli cups" stuff is really starting to piss me off. I barely aprove of them being shipped that way, let alone "living" like that. They need exorcise. It's important to their growth and health. I read more and more about these large reptile suppliers doing this. Why are they such cheapskates? Most of the "supplies and caging" necessary to the upkeep of the business is a tax write off anyway. Spend now, get most back later. Think about the animals, not the $$$$. They are your livelyhood in this type of business.

Ciao,
Rick
Junkyard’s points were valid, with an oversized snake in a small deli cup.
Your points, I don’t understand on this particular issue.

There is absolutely no problem with shipping snakes in deli cups. There is also nothing wrong with neonates going into deli cups.

Let me first state that they have been very courteous in our e-mail exchange. Their last suggestion was for me to send a written description of what I'm looking for in the animal, for them to look through their stock and try to pick something similar to what I specified. In MHO that's far more time consuming than e-mailing a couple of pictures of what's available to ship. I wouldn't even dream of having someone e-mail me a written description of what he is looking for in a ball python, go through my collection to see if something matches their request, and then send it to him sight unseen. The chances that the person will not like what he receives are big (beauty is in the eye of the beholder!). What if the buyer doesn't like the animal and wants to return it? The animal is healthy, arrived alive, but it was not what you had in mind. Then what?

Regards.
