    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

My name is JC Gutierrez.I GOT RIPPED OFF, by Lloyd from LnL Reptiles AKA Pacific Coast Reptiles.
Last month I sold him a water monitor for 1400.00  We did the deal through paypal. I recieved notifaction from paypal that a payment for 1400.00 was  made to my account. I then shipped him the monitor. After shipping out the monitor I got an email form paypal that the payment had to clear. Lloyd paid me with an echeck. So I had to wait 5 days before payment cleared. On the 8th day I got an email from paypal. They informed me that the echeck didn't have the funds in it to clear and that "it" was canceled.
I then tried to call Lloyd to figure something out. He didn't answer the phone or return any of my emails. He posted on KINGSNAKE that he wouldn't be answering any emails or phone calls till the 10th of July. After emailing him and letting him know that I would come here and post, he replied and said the he put a 1400.00 check in the mail. That was on the 3rd of July.
This week I have been emailing him to let him know that I haven't recieved his check. Today I got an email from him telling me that if I don't get the check by tomorrow, to call him so he could send me  a sieres of postdated checks. So I called his shop and his partner (wife) Lisa (the other L) answered. She then tells me that I need to speak with Lloyd,That she isn't involved.
Lloyd emails me and tells me that if I want to sue him that I can. That he will pay me when I see him in court, 3 months from now.
Not only did he get my monitor but he sold it. All profit.

You'll cost him more then the $140.00 for posting on here. What a scumbag he is.Word travels fast so he''ll learn he didn't really get away with it scott free. Also thats why I don't accept paypal as method of payment as your not the first time I've heard of payment not going through after is was "supposedly cleared" Sorry you got ripped off but thanks for letting us know so we aren't next.

What an arrogant S.O.B! "see you in court" He is hoping that you will go away. Stay on him and do not let him get away with this, he will just keep doing it. $1400.00 is a lot of money. Keep us posted.
 
let me just say this. no reason to blame paypals and or hate them. an echeck is just what it says..a check. for anyone that doesnt know what a check is..its a device that has to clear..like any other check.
if you understood how the system worked you would have avoided all this hassle..and or if the buyer was a decent person.
anyone reading this should know..echecks are not funds into your account until they clear the bank! period. dont ship animals until the loot is yours.
 
Sorry to hear that you got ripped off, JC. You did the right thing posting your story here. I'm curious though. Do you still have the e-mails from him? If so, post them here. As further proof of your claim and his shadiness. I had an experience with PayPal the other day, that I've never encountered before...I sold an animal to someone who paid me via PayPal....I got the "You've got Cash" from PayPal, so the next day, I shipped out the animal....the day after I shipped out, I got an email from PayPal telling me that the transaction was "reversed and cancelled"! It turns out that the person mistakenly used a credit card that was "maxed out"! I didn't think that PayPal would even approve a maxed out credit card, but, I guess they will...
Luckily, the person I dealt with, is honest, and emailed me to tell me the problem, and we're in the process of getting it straightened out now....
But, an e-check (as was said before) is just a check that hasn't cleared yet....PayPal will let you know when it does clear, and then you can ship....Neil
 
yikes didnt know about the credit card problem.
i guess its always good to check where the funds are coming from when using paypals..and add another day or two for clearing credit card payments..
we probably need a thread on paypals to alert sellers about how to work with them and be prepared to avoid the hassles mentioned on this thread alone along with whatever else can go wrong.
 
I e-mailed LnL and told them  they need to respond to this. He (Lloyd) did not know about this site, and I directed him to it. He read the post and said he will register and respond soon.

NOT SURE IF EVERYONE KNEW BUT E-BAY BOUGHT PAYPAL.
FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND THEY WILL BE TRYING NEW
AVENUES (TO CUT COST OF COARSE) ONE OF WHICH COULD
BE CREDIT CARD APPROVAL SPEED OR SOMETHING. EBAY BOUGHT "BILL-POINT" BACK IN 1999 AND HAS ALREADY SAID THAT IT IS GOING TO "PHASE OUT" BILLPOINT SINCE THEY
ARE AQUIRING PAYPAL (FOR 1.5 BILLION).

My name is Bernie and i would just like to say that i have been dealing with Lloyd for quite some time now and i am amazed with the complaint about him and his buisness!  I have found Lloyd and Lesa to be very honest buisness people (which is not too common these days). I have traded and purchased animals with them and have never had a problem.  Any time there was something amiss (like they sold out of something i was looking for) I just waited till they had something i wanted. Sometimes I (by my own choice) waited till there was something i wanted. This took quite some time (since im pickey) and they ALWAYS shipped. They have NEVER let me down in any way.  I understand that problems can arrise, but EVERYONE has to understand and be adult about it. This couple relies on this buisness for a living and does not want to jeopardize that.  If they didnt care, then there wouldnt have been a response by them to the complaint! Think about it! Would any of you! If i was trying to hide something like that, I would just disappear like most of these crooks do.  There are too many guys out there saying they have things when they dont and just stealing money.  This was obviously not the case here.  LandL Reptiles has a good reputation in the buisness and they have quite a large clientell. Dont any of you think, that if this was their agenda, that there would be complaints all over the place!  

USE YOUR HEADS!!!

Not trying to nitpic But I just called L and L about buying some snakes...called the # they had posted on thier ad In Kingsnake and I got Pacific Coast reptiles..thought that was odd....Just my 2 cents on the matter....

PS still going to buy from them anyways though...
 
Hmmmm, I find it very odd that Loyld states he is not AKA Pacific Coast Reptiles, but you can call L-N L's number and get Pacific Coast Reptiles, even if the two are some how connected he should of stated so in the post that he is does not own that company but that they are affilated. But he didnt state that. Seems to me to be an obvious lie about the two companies being connected, although that wouldnt really prove that he was trying to scam someone, just makes me feel hes capable of fibbing..
What does make me think hes being dishonest and trying to get something for nothing is I can't believe the whole "my wifes wallet was stolen and I couldnt get the money in the account".    I had a card stolen once, and when I reported it I told them what charges I had made on it and that they needed to be paid and they made good on those transactions, and transferred those charges to the replacement card.  They only refuse charges that are made after you report the card stolen. If anything comes in during the time frame of when you realize it was stolen to the time you reported it gone, they will check signatures on the receipts.
You know what charges you make. An honest person would tell the company that the card was through, which purchases needed to be honored.
And I definitly dont buy the excuse the bank is taking  so long to pay the money. If he's resold the animal why not use the money he got for that to pay this off if he is concerened on doing the right thing and paying for his purchase.
   Im sorry.. its totally your perogrative Gib, and I could be completely wrong,  but I wouldn't risk my money with it.

Well I kind of fell the same way....BUT Im not buying anything very pricey...So I figure if something DOES happen (hopefully it wont) I wont be out very much....so its kind of a safe gamble....Ill defintly let everyone know how it works out though,,,

My name is James Wilson. For about 6 years I kept, bred, and sold reptiles under the name Pacific Coast Reptiles (a name which I had a business license for). I did this in San Diego, and then Moved to Florida for a short time, and then back to San Diego, and then to Phoenix AZ (Using that name the whole time). During that time, I sold many Bluetongues, and wrote a pretty extensive article on them that was published in Reptiles Magazine in Nov of 2001. Just over a year ago, someone e-mailed me and informed me that some guy in California named Lloyd Putnam AKA Lloyd Rhea was ripping lots of people off on a very large scale, and that he was doing this under the name Pacific Coast Reptiles. As a result I had to change my name last year to Pacific Coast Herpetological. I bought the Domain name, as I am now working on a website for my business. I want you to know that I have never been associated with this criminal in my life, and the only thing we have in common is the name (Pacific Coast Reptiles) that he chose to use and destroy. I have never met him, or talked to him. I was approached in September of 2004 by some guy using the name Pacific Coast Herps in San Clement, CA. He was claiming it was his name. I do not know if he is Lloyd, or if he is associated with Lloyd or not. He seems to have disappeared. Anyway if you ever have any questions as to who I am, feel free to look up my name or my business name here on the BOI. I am now working with mostly Rosy Boas and Insular Giant Chuckwallas.
